The club faces challenges with membership numbers, diversity of impact, and succession planning, but members are motivated to give back to those less fortunate and make a positive difference through Rotaract.
The document discusses tissue donation and National Donate Life Month which is celebrated in April. It encourages employees to register as donors and participate in a photo event where they dress in blue and green to honor donors. The event aims to support those who have given the gift of life through tissue donation and help enhance the quality of life for others. It provides information on how to register as a donor and the impact of tissue donation.

IPP Carolyn Khoury
Dear fellow E-Club members,
Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the final newsletter of the
2017/2018 Rotary year. Reflecting on the past 12 months, I am immensely
grateful for what our club has accomplished. We have made a positive
difference in the lives of so many people.
I am proud of our members’ achievements – both in the Rotary arena and in
their personal and professional lives. To serve as president of a club as diverse
and as energetic as ours has been an honour and a privilege.
I would like to express my appreciation for the support and encouragement I
received during my term of office. I look forward to continuing to participate in
our club’s current projects and upcoming endeavours and I fully support our
new leadership as they work to achieve our club’s ever-expanding goals.
May the Rotary E-Club of Southern Africa D9400 grow from strength to
strength under the dedicated and capable guidance of President Shirley and
President-Elect Judith.
Yours in Rotary,
IPP Carolyn Khoury

2. Global Grant
The club's first Global Grant was approved in June - congratulations to DGN
Annemarie, PDG Mark and all who assisted.
The purpose of this project is to develop children aged from birth to 7 years
old in Greater Alexandra Township in Johannesburg, by empowering their Early
Childhood Development staff, practitioners, teachers and principals who will in
turn empower the children they work with every weekday. We are targeting
25 ECD Centres, 150 practitioners and staff and a total of up to 500 learners.
●Budget: Our club has approved R30 000 as well as another R75,000
donation from Sešego Cares, toward the total budget of R881,000.
This was achieved with support from RC Coesfeld-Baumberge D187 and RC
Bad Homburg D1820 (Germany), and RC Point West D5180 (USA).
This is a long-term project and there will be plenty of opportunity for members
to be involved. Please be sure to let us know if you'd like to join in on this
project.
District Grant
We were thrilled to hear that Rotarian Mary
Jean Gabriel was successful in her
appplication for a District Grant. This will
allow her to bring her Tower Garden
initiative to New BeginningZ. The home will
be able to use this initiative to grow
nutritious vegetables to feed the increasing
number of abandoned and vulnerable
children that the home assists.
In addition, the caregivers who reside with
the children will be taught how to tend to
the garden, and also how to establish a
vegetable patch complete with tower
gardens.

regard, and we look forward to President Shirley's guidance
on fulfilling the 2018-2019 requirements.

DGN Annemarie arranged 220 trees from Wildlands in Umhlanga for the challenge of RI
President (2017-2018) Ian Riseley for each of the members to plant a tree. A number
of our members have planted trees. We also partnered with Rotary E-Club of South
Africa One to assist us in collecting and planting these 220 trees.
Wildlands is a leading environmental NPO working with disadvantaged communities
across the country. Our vision is ‘A Sustainable Future For All’ where we strive to
improve sustainability in the communities in which we work, restore degraded
landscapes and conserve our collective heritage. By teaching these communities, we
hope to foster an entrepreneurial spirit in which they can lift themselves out of
poverty. Our programmes are complimentary and all contribute towards our core
focus of building robust ecosystems that underwrite human wellbeing and
sustainable development.
All our trees (indigenous) are nurtured and grown by our Tree-preneurs (community
members from disadvantaged communities
who grow indigenous trees at their homesteads and
then barter these for livelihood support items) and this
is what makes these trees unique, as each one tells a
story. These trees are then used to restore degraded
ecosystems across the country.
