February and March have been hectic months with the induction of many
new wonderful members, an abundance of Rotary Business, social and
fellowship events and visiting projects.
February is a month when Romance is celebrat-
ed in a special way. March 17th is official St
Patrick’s Day and for all our members with Irish
blood in them, we toast you!

Ian H.S. Riseley is a chartered accountant and
principal of Ian Riseley and Co., a firm he established in 1976. Prior to starting
his own firm, he worked in the audit and management consulting divisions
of large accounting firms and corporations.
Riseley has been a member of the boards of both a private and a public school, a member of the Community
Advisory Group for the City of Sandringham, and president of Beaumaris Sea Scouts Group. He has been
president of Langi-Taan Ski Club as well as honorary auditor or adviser for a number of charitable organizations.
Riseley’s honors include the AusAID Peacebuilder Award from the Australian government in recognition of his
work in East Timor, the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to the Australian community, and the
Regional Service Award for a Polio Free World from The Rotary Foundation.-
A Rotarian since 1978, Riseley has served as treasurer, director, Foundation trustee, and member and chair of
numerous RI and Foundation committees.
He and his wife, Juliet, a past district governor, are Major Donors and Bequest Society members of The Rotary
Foundation. They live on seven hectares at Moorooduc, where they practice their personal philosophy

The solar bakery (seen right) was available at
the centre in Mathibestad where they bake
outstanding bread and it was donated to worthy
project managed by Reverend Jim Blessing of the NGO,
Blessman International in Polokwane.
This gift was presented to PP Dr Wilma (RC Waterkloof)
and PP Gawie Lotter (e-club) by Sešego Cares.

Shaping Futures pupils and
there were big smiles
all-round.

A matching Rotary grant to train 10 rural schools on how to farm in
Limpopo. The training will entail the maintenance of high quality gardens. We will be
starting a pilot program at a farm school near the NGO, Blessman International area in
the next three months at the Sterkrivier School.
Other Rotary clubs involved are Pietersburg 100 as the "host club", Polokwane and
Mokopane. Together these clubs are pledging a total of R150 000. Blessman
International will match the R 150 000 which will result in a total of R 300 000.
Jim Blessing is hoping to present this same opportunity to the Rotary Clubs of Bela Bela,
Haenertsburg and Louis Trichardt.
Using the R 300 000, the fund-raising efforts will be taken to America. It is hoped that
8 or 10 clubs will be found and hopefully one corporate donor will match the rest of the
funds to give Blessman International a total of R 2m.
They will be offering three-day training sessions on their campus and then do follow up
training and motivation sessions at all of the schools.
The grant will fund basic material needs like seedlings, hand tools, and irrigation
drip lines.

CROSS EGYPT CHALLENGE—OCTOBER 2017
The members of the Rotary Club of Alexandria Cosmopolitan - District 2451 – Egypt are happy to
renew their invitation to you and the members of your prestigious and respectful club to learn more
about and share our Rotary organized initiative, "Cross Egypt Challenge" that aims to promote
tourism to Egypt and prove that Egypt is still safe for tourism.
Cross Egypt Challenge is an international cross-country motorcycle and scooter adventure tour
conducted throughout the majestic and fascinating Egypt. Participation is not only open to Rotarians
or professional riders, but also open to average riders and their accompanying spouses or friends
from around the globe.
This amazing Rotary project started in 2011 and for the past 6 years, Rotarians and riders from over
40 countries took part in the adventurous challenge. This year the challenge will start on
October 12 and will last for 10 days and will pass
by Egypt's top attractions and off the beaten track
destinations.
A normal practice we are used to conduct during
Cross Egypt Challenge is an annual "Sahara Rotary
Meetings" where riding Rotarians along with
Rotaracts from our organizing team conduct an
official Rotary meeting in the Egyptian Desert.

Cross Egypt Challenge provides a very rewarding and challenging experience for participants from
around the globe as it combines the best of adventure travels and extreme sports. The 2017
season of Cross Egypt Challenge will include one of the best routes in the history of the challenge
and will pass through many of Egypt's finest spots including modern cities, coastal resorts,
historical sites, Egyptian western and eastern deserts and Egypt's Nile Valley.

Community Services Committee met at the Lotter Family’s home for the strategic
planning meeting for the next 18 months and beyond! Thanks to the Lotter family
for hosting a very successful meeting—so much planned for the club’s future.
Excellent fellowship to celebrate three important dates! The club was chartered on
5 March 2014 so we celebrated our three years’ anniversary. We toasted Rotary International’s
112th anniversary and also celebrated The Rotary Foundation’s 100th anniversary.
The lunch organised at Pachas in Pretoria (by PP Liana van der Walt) was excellent. This was a
super fellowship event and we also inducted Prof Gawie Lotter as our newest member.
We are now 63 strong.

Rotary International celebrated its 112th anniversary on 23 February 2017.
Elizabeth Lamberti from RI Zurich and PDG Shirley hosted a very successful RI
Fund Development breakfast workshop
