Parents Their mother was Rhea Silvia Their father was the god of war, Mars
History Amulius, their grandfather, was afraid that his grandchildren might of overthrown him, so he ordered the servant to kill Romulus and Remus. Romulus’s and Remus’s mother was buried alive.
History  (continued) The servant instead put the twin brothers in a basket next to the Tiber River. The Tiber River flooded and gently rose the basket and the basket was carried down the stream.
History  (continued) Remus and Romulus were saved by the river deity Tiberinus. They were placed on Palatine Hill. There, they were nursed by a wolf, or Lupa in Latin. They were nurtured under a fig tree and fed by a woodpecker.
History  (continued) Romulus and Remus were then discovered by Faustulus, a shepherd for Amulius. Faustulus and his wife, Acca Larentia, raised the boys as their own.
