NAPLES
Naples is the most populous city of southern Italy, capital of
the region of Campania and of the province of Naples.
The history of the city begins with the Greeks of Euboea, who
in the early eighth century. C. founded on the island of Ischia,
which was probably the first Greek colony in the West:
Pithecussae. In the same century, settlers fleeing major
geological events left the island and founded the city of
Cumae. The people of this city founded a century tardela city
of Partenope on the hill of Pizzofalcone. Subsequently, at least
from the V century. C. the Greeks called the place Neapolis.
