This document summarizes the use of digital technologies and teaching of English and students with special needs at School Tiberiu Morariu in Salva, Romania. Digital technologies are limited due to financial constraints but some classes use laptops and a donated projector. An IT lab with PCs and tablets was obtained in 2016. English and French are taught using Content and Language Integrated Learning. Students with special needs may attend normal or adapted curriculum or special schools, but the school lacks funding for specialized teachers.
2. What digital technologies are used in your school, and how they are
used?
• In our school( School Tiberiu
Morariu Salva,Romania) the
presence of technology is still
precarious due to the limited
financial resources form local
community and due to the minimal
endowments made by the ministry of
education.
• In most classes from kindergartens
and primary cycle teachers use
personal laptops to make their
content more attractive. Through a
donation of a foundation, this year
made acquisition of a projector for
primary classes to increase the
interaction of students with digital
content.
3. What digital technologies are used in your school, and how they are
used?
• Since 2014, the education ministry has
introduced interactive books in primary
school classes with CDs with different
scientific content presented as interesting
games or applications, but these games
are especially used by students at home
because of the lack of smart class board.
• Through Digitaliada program and Orange
foundation in 2016 we won an IT
laboratory for secondary school children
equipped with 15 PC ,projectors and 24
tablets, smart board. This project focused
on the development of scientific content
especially in mathematics through games
and practical applications to reduce the
degree of abstraction.

5. How you teach English?
Content and Language Integrated
Learning(CLIL) represents the best
framework in terms of acontent-based
bilingual approach. CLIL may be the best-fit
methodology for language teaching and
learning in a multilingual Europe.
CLIL promotes a natural and holistic
approach. Using CLIL in kindergarten and
primary classes may have success
because at preschool level the methodology
is holistic and preschoolers and students
learn in real experiences and tasks.
Language showers are about 30 to 60
minutes expose a day, using games, nursery
rhymes, songs, visuals, animated stories for
children, handling objects/toys, movement.
6. How you teach English?
In our school English and French are taught as foreign languages both as first and
as second languages. Students are very interested in learning other languages,
that's why they get involved in school Erasmus+ projects or go to student
exchanges in other countries to learn new and interesting languages which are not
included in the curriculum. Foreign languages really contribute to European
competitiveness.
The focus is moving from traditional learning to the creative, innovative and active
learning. The curriculum requires a flexible inter, multi and trans-disciplinary
approach. The traditional teaching paradigm is changing to keep pace with the
increase in non-traditional students and the changing workforce.
As a result, school in Romania, education at all levels continue to add more
distance education courses, education focusing more and more on e-learning and
interactive lessons.
7. How you teach English?
Second Language Acquisition Development
in Early Years
1.English Language Acquisition as a Second
Language Steps
2. Comprehension of Second Language
3. Communication in Second Language
On long term, the qualitative development of
educational services for early education,
including learning English at early ages, will
ensure all children a successful start.
Turn at least one minute of the day into
English and learning opportunities for
your students!
8. Disability/Special needs - how you diagnose and support these
children?
Children with special needs may attend normal
school curriculum, curriculum adapted or special
school. They enjoy social assistance and education,
the ultimate goal is educating, training and recovery,
compensation and social integration.
The content of the special education and integrated
special education is regulated by:
a) a distinct curriculum especially designed for the
special education;
b) a curriculum for the mainstream education
adapted for the integrated special education;
c) specific methodologies and handbooks,
elaborated and approved by Ministry of Education.
Center for Inclusive education is involved in the early
tracking and ensures an early intervention.
9. Disability/Special needs - how you diagnose and support these
children?
Children with special needs must be evaluated by the Commission for educational
and vocational guidance who can turn to :a Special school or a mainstream school
with the support structure from an itinerant teacher.
Itinerant teachers of Special schools belong in public schools and go to work with
children with special needs. Are paid by the school if in that school are at least 600
children.
The Salva School has only 200 children so we can not pay an special teacher.
The remedial work for those with easily special needs rests entirely with the class
teacher who sometimes does the team with the student's doctor, family, and Special
Needs Center specialist.
Lack of funding is our main obstacle to the integration of these students and the lack
of involvement of local and regional authorities with funding role for this process.
We also collaborate with several foundations that offer consultancy and training
courses: Small Prince-Bistrita and Incentii-Bistrita.
