Biodiversity Informatics in South Africa, as in other parts of the world, is a young and dynamic field of science, which translates into an enormous challenge for biodiversity scientists. Understanding mechanisms for information sharing in this landscape has been successful over time. The South African National Biodiversity Institute, houses the GBIF Node, and supports a knowledge-management platform, which makes biodiversity data freely and openly available. The South African Biodiversity Information Facility (SABIF) is a major publisher of biodiversity data, making >11.5 million biodiversity data records available, from a growing network of more than 15 organisations, to the global scientific community. Data standards such as the Darwin Core, and protocols such as TAPIR and the Integrated Publishing Toolkit have been used. Data sharing takes place through both funded and non-funded mechanisms, to initiate digitization activities. A comprehensive policy framework has also been put in place by SANBI, to enable data sharing which takes into account intellectual property rights, citations and sensitive data. The scope of data of types being mobilized is increasing through the Foundational Biodiversity Information Programme with species, specimens, observation, images and molecular data being mobilised, and made accessible. The Information Architecture is evolving to support these data types and to ensure that relevant data can be accessed efficiently in support of science, policy and decision making.
Mutual accountability is a core CAADP principle where parties hold each other accountable for commitments. A mutual accountability framework was developed to guide processes at various levels. Joint sector reviews are one way to operationalize mutual accountability at the country level by assessing sector performance and results. Current efforts are focusing on strengthening existing joint sector review processes and reports in seven countries through the collection of data and analysis by national and IFPRI/ReSAKSS teams. Partnerships with various organizations will support strengthened mutual accountability and joint sector reviews.
1) AFAAS was established to support knowledge sharing and capacity building for agricultural extension and advisory services across Africa.
2) It has helped establish national country forums in over 40 African countries to facilitate coordination and planning of advisory services.
3) AFAAS also leads knowledge management initiatives like organizing symposia, studies on topics like gender and climate change, and maintaining an online platform for sharing information.

This document provides a scoping study of evolving institutional structures for delivering science and technology to support agricultural transformation in Africa. It examines six key initiatives: the CAADP Technical Networks, the proposed Science for Agriculture Consortium (S4AC), the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) and African Agricultural Research Programme (AARP) led by the African Development Bank, the Biosciences eastern and central Africa-International Livestock Research Institute (BecA-ILRI) Hub, and the CGIAR Platform for Big Data in Agriculture. The study finds that while most initiatives are still conceptual, together they provide opportunities to advance Africa's Science Agenda by mainstreaming proven technologies and strengthening partnerships between African institutions and the CGIAR.

advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to

these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
