CCAFS is a collaborative initiative aiming to bridge the science-policy gap in agriculture and food systems amidst climate change. It focuses on developing pro-poor adaptation and mitigation strategies while enhancing knowledge sharing through the CANA platform, which was launched in 2014. The project operates across several regions in Africa, supporting the integration of agricultural and climate policies at various levels to improve food security and adaptive capacity.

6. Our Work Across Scales
• National - working with the ministries of Agriculture and
Environment to develop and implement climate change policies
and strategies in the agricultural sector
• Regional - working with COMESA in 5 countries in ESA:
Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda and Tanzania to prepare
country CSA Programs as a coordinated programmatic approach
to catalyzing climate finance and investments into the agriculture
sector
• Continental - supporting the African Group of Negotiators
(AGN) to integrate agriculture into climate change issues under
the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
(UNFCCC) through scientific evidence

7. Need for knowledge sharing and
networking
All the efforts above yield new knowledge and experiences thus
creating new avenues for collaboration – implying the need to create a
platform for sharing knowledge
• In 2011, CCAFS EA launched a Regional Learning Partnership (RLP)
(16 African based organizations) to help mainstream research into
national policies, development plans and targeted local action
• In 2012, the RLP identified the need for an online knowledge platform
• Through the RLP, the Rockefeller and Pamoja Media approached
CCAFS EA to collaborate and develop an online platform.
• In 2014, a survey undertaken to get feedback on the content and
design of the platform, to share and access information on Africa’s
agriculture in the context of a changing climate

8. CANA was officially launched in 2014 at COP 20 in Lima, Peru
at the CCAFS official side event on Climate-smart agriculture
innovations to increase food security and rural incomes under
climate change

• This training workshop will build regional capacity on the
use of the platform for sharing emerging knowledge
and experiences on climate change and agriculture in
Africa

research and field work experiences, identify existing
gaps and opportunities for synergies.
