Roku was started in 2002 by Anthony Wood and initially produced a music streaming player called SoundBridge. It later developed set-top streaming boxes to access Netflix and other online content on TVs. Roku now produces various streaming player models as well as licensing its platform to TV manufacturers. As an independent company focused solely on streaming, Roku has become the most popular streaming platform in the US, with projections that streaming players will be used in 40% of US households by 2017. Roku is currently privately held and generates over $1 billion in annual revenue primarily from advertising and in-app purchases.

'A PRX For The UK?: A Scheme To Improve The Sales Of Audio From Producers To ...Grant Goddard

The presentation explores the relation between consumers and technology throughout the years. The digital revolution is everywhere and nobody knows what will be the next step. The journey starts with the birth of the Internet and goes on analysing how consumers search for info online and offline and what they buy the most. The last part is a focus on the importance of videos and how the binomial audio/video is important nowadays for people and companies to generate contents and revenues.
This is a presentation I created while working at a marketing firm to educate colleagues on podcasting. This was done in September of 05, a time when "podcast" was a hot buzz word in the marketing space, but very few people actually knew what it meant. The aim of this presentation was to give my colleagues the information they needed to discuss this new technology with confidence, at a time when there was very little industry familiarity with the channel itself. I used casual, approachable examples and simplified visuals to communicate these concepts.
Founded by Anthony Wood, Roku pioneered streaming to the TV.
