The document discusses a zoom presentation on the clinical diagnostic algorithm for common surface lumps. The objective is to empower laypeople to understand how to manage surface lumps. It provides an agenda for the presentation which will cover what a surface lump is, how common they are, the importance of understanding the diagnostic algorithm, and review the algorithms for common types of surface lumps. Attendees are reminded to complete an online test after to receive a certificate and potential consultation voucher.

CDSCO and Phamacovigilance {Regulatory body in India}NEHA GUPTA
The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) is India's national regulatory body for pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Operating under the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, the CDSCO is responsible for approving new drugs, conducting clinical trials, setting standards for drugs, controlling the quality of imported drugs, and coordinating the activities of State Drug Control Organizations by providing expert advice.
Pharmacovigilance, on the other hand, is the science and activities related to the detection, assessment, understanding, and prevention of adverse effects or any other drug-related problems. The primary aim of pharmacovigilance is to ensure the safety and efficacy of medicines, thereby protecting public health.
In India, pharmacovigilance activities are monitored by the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI), which works closely with CDSCO to collect, analyze, and act upon data regarding adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Together, they play a critical role in ensuring that the benefits of drugs outweigh their risks, maintaining high standards of patient safety, and promoting the rational use of medicines.

How common is a surface lump?
Common to the point of very common!
Because all of these parts of the human body can
give rise to a surface lump.
• skin and soft tissues
• scalp, face and mouth
• thyroid gland and neck
• wall of the trunk and abdomen
• extremities
• anus
• breasts

What is the importance of knowing how to manage
a surface lump?
Not only are surface lumps being very common.
They cause instant anxiety once a surface lump is
discovered. First reaction is usually, “Oh no, baka I
have cancer na.”
For all surface lumps, the first question to answer is
what is it. While trying to get the diagnosis, one
cannot help but think (and worry) that all surface
lumps have the possibility of being cancer.

What is a clinical diagnostic algorithm?
Because a surface lump can be cancer or not
cancer, a layperson should be empowered to
know the cues for cancer and not cancer based
on looking and palpating.
The clinical diagnostic algorithm will guide the
laypeople on how to recognize cancer / not
cancer in surface lumps, just based on looking
and palpating (CLINICAL).

31. What is the importance of knowing the clinical
diagnostic algorithm of surface lumps?
So that
• fear can be allayed as soon as possible once a
surface lump appears or develops (if laypeople
know the cues for cancer and not cancer.
• laypeople knows when to consult a physician.
• early consult with a physician may be
promoted.

33. What are the clinical diagnostic algorithms of
common surface lumps?
First review or know the definition of a surface
lump:
A surface lump is a mass or bukol that is located
on the surface of the body, one that can be
touched, palpated and evaluated by the
examining fingers at least if not seen by the
naked eyes.
Clinical
Diagnostic

Common
Surface Lumps
34. What are the clinical diagnostic algorithms of
common surface lumps?
Foremost question to answer: based on palpation
by the examining fingers of the person himself /
herself, is there a surface lump or not?
Remember this definition:
A surface lump is a mass or bukol that is located
on the surface of the body, one that can be
touched, palpated and evaluated by the
examining fingers at least if not seen by the
naked eyes.

not induration or
thickening and are
not enlargement.
Surface lumps are
masses or bukol,
have 3 dimensional
configuration when
palpated.
May be round or
oval.

Yes No
A surface lump is a mass or bukol that is located on the
surface of the body, one that can be touched, palpated and
evaluated by the examining fingers at least if not seen by
the naked eyes.
Not induration or thickening and are not enlargement!
36. What are the clinical diagnostic algorithms of
common surface lumps?
If the answer is “yes, there is a surface lump,” the
next question to answer where is it LOCATED? On
which part of the body is the surface lump
LOCATED?
Head, scalp, face, mouth, neck, trunk,
extremities, anus, breast?
