4 Things Startups Need to Know About Design and Working with DesignersJESS3
Over the last 5 years of working at JESS3, I have come to believe so wholly in these four principles. It was great to be one of the many "ingredients" presenting at TechCocktail's "Startup Mixology" conference on June 16, 2011.
Done "ignite style," each of the presenters shared 10 minutes of potent tips in their respective areas (design, development, community, PR, hiring, etc.).

This presentation was included in EvoSoft, a workshop along with the GECCO conference. It presents SofEA and how it handles a pool-based evolutionary algorithm over CouchDB
Baroness Thompson is applying to Argosy University's Masters program. She has overcome a difficult childhood and adolescence in Oakland, California, where she faced robbery, kidnapping and assault before age 20. She has worked hard to support herself and her family, obtaining her high school diploma at 17 and attending community college. Her goal is to become a counselor in corrections to help reduce recidivism among juveniles. She believes Argosy's program will help her achieve her career goals and provide financial stability for her family.
- Science involves creating and testing knowledge claims about the natural world using methods and standards of evidence. It aims to build an objective body of knowledge through experiments and observation.
- There are four main scientific disciplines: physics, chemistry, biology, and earth/space sciences. The boundaries between them are blurred with overlapping fields like biophysics.
- Science uses mathematics and technology as tools. It teaches both facts and "big ideas" like that everything is made of chemicals in chemistry. The purpose is to prepare both future scientists and an informed public.

The biggest threat to network security is underestimating the threat to network security. And as IP networks become the defector standard, ignoring this reality can extract a heavy price down the road.
Apps for health mohawk college presentationZakir Hussain
Zakir Hussain, CEO and founder of Velo Mobile Health, gave a presentation on transforming global healthcare systems through mobile health applications. He discussed how mHealth apps are being adopted in both developed countries like Canada as well as developing nations, but noted there are differences in adoption drivers between these contexts. Hussain also outlined the opportunities for scalable, patient-centric mHealth solutions that can help integrate mobile technologies into healthcare delivery globally.
SharePoint 2013 - What's new for Devs - Belgian IT Bootcamp 2012Joris Poelmans
SharePoint 2013 introduces a new app model that allows developers to build standalone apps that can be deployed in SharePoint. There are three types of apps: SharePoint-hosted apps, which are contained within a SharePoint site; provider-hosted apps, which reside outside of SharePoint but integrate with it; and auto-hosted Azure apps, which are hosted and provisioned automatically in Windows Azure. The new app model provides developers with increased flexibility and the ability to leverage existing web development skills.

- Dispatching activities and costs were moved from transmission to dispatching. A unitary tariff was set for dispatching.
- Quality of service incentives include potential premiums or penalties linked to technical KPIs like energy not supplied.
- Terna reported its 1H12 consolidated results on July 24th, 2012.
- Revenues increased 7.9% to 857 million euros, driven by an 8.5% increase in grid fees. EBITDA rose 10.3% to 669 million euros.
- Net income from continuing operations was 222 million euros, an increase of 13.2% compared to the same period in 2011.
Right time right place restructure presentationmevan1sc
The document outlines a proposed reorganization of an organization to better achieve its goals over the next six months. It discusses restructuring the organization to have fewer layers, be more streamlined, transparent, and accountable. The reorganization would create eight commissioner roles focused on key areas such as the economy, transport, tourism, and rural environment. The process for implementing this change would include creating new job descriptions without confirmed appointments, and allowing open applications across grades to result in fewer management layers.
The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the Budget Control Act of 2011 would reduce budget deficits by at least $2.1 trillion over 10 years. Key provisions include caps on discretionary spending, additional funding for programs to reduce improper payments, and changes to student loan programs. The legislation also establishes a committee to find $1.5 trillion in further deficit reduction.
The document describes a presentation showing the results of taking pictures on an Italian beach for one hour, where a large amount of plastic, glass, metal, paper, and wood debris left by humans and moved by water was found. It encourages readers to take pictures at their own local beach to see the diversity and amount of pollution, and to remember to bring bags to collect garbage after taking photos.

Introduction of Cybersecurity with OSS at Code Europe 2024Hiroshi SHIBATA
I develop the Ruby programming language, RubyGems, and Bundler, which are package managers for Ruby. Today, I will introduce how to enhance the security of your application using open-source software (OSS) examples from Ruby and RubyGems.
The first topic is CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures). I have published CVEs many times. But what exactly is a CVE? I'll provide a basic understanding of CVEs and explain how to detect and handle vulnerabilities in OSS.
Next, let's discuss package managers. Package managers play a critical role in the OSS ecosystem. I'll explain how to manage library dependencies in your application.
I'll share insights into how the Ruby and RubyGems core team works to keep our ecosystem safe. By the end of this talk, you'll have a better understanding of how to safeguard your code.
LF Energy Webinar: Carbon Data Specifications: Mechanisms to Improve Data Acc...DanBrown980551
This LF Energy webinar took place June 20, 2024. It featured:
-Alex Thornton, LF Energy
-Hallie Cramer, Google
-Daniel Roesler, UtilityAPI
-Henry Richardson, WattTime
In response to the urgency and scale required to effectively address climate change, open source solutions offer significant potential for driving innovation and progress. Currently, there is a growing demand for standardization and interoperability in energy data and modeling. Open source standards and specifications within the energy sector can also alleviate challenges associated with data fragmentation, transparency, and accessibility. At the same time, it is crucial to consider privacy and security concerns throughout the development of open source platforms.
This webinar will delve into the motivations behind establishing LF Energy’s Carbon Data Specification Consortium. It will provide an overview of the draft specifications and the ongoing progress made by the respective working groups.
Three primary specifications will be discussed:
-Discovery and client registration, emphasizing transparent processes and secure and private access
-Customer data, centering around customer tariffs, bills, energy usage, and full consumption disclosure
-Power systems data, focusing on grid data, inclusive of transmission and distribution networks, generation, intergrid power flows, and market settlement data
"Choosing proper type of scaling", Olena SyrotaFwdays
Imagine an IoT processing system that is already quite mature and production-ready and for which client coverage is growing and scaling and performance aspects are life and death questions. The system has Redis, MongoDB, and stream processing based on ksqldb. In this talk, firstly, we will analyze scaling approaches and then select the proper ones for our system.

The typical problem in product engineering is not bad strategy, so much as “no strategy”. This leads to confusion, lack of motivation, and incoherent action. The next time you look for a strategy and find an empty space, instead of waiting for it to be filled, I will show you how to fill it in yourself. If you’re wrong, it forces a correction. If you’re right, it helps create focus. I’ll share how I’ve approached this in the past, both what works and lessons for what didn’t work so well.
