1950s, and developed into a range of different styles in the 1960s.
It Later became popular in the USA and UK.
• It has its roots in 1940s' and 1950s' rock and roll was heavily
influenced by rhythm ,blues and country music. Rock music also
drew strongly on a number of other genres such as blues and folk,
and incorporated influences from jazz and classical.
• The first presentations of “rock and roll” bands was found in the
various „rock-ability‟ groups that started in mid and late 1950‟s.
These groups are Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jonny Burnette and
the Rock and Roll trio Chuck Berry in 1953 to 1956.
• In the early fifties, the problem of „rock-ability‟ was the fact
that a lot of parents objected to the suggestive language of the
fresh sound and many radio stations avoided playing them.
• Artists often wear black or
dark clothing, with a messy
hairstyle.
• Tattoos and piercings are
often found among rock
artists.
• Many rock artists can also
be found wearing make-up,
mostly dark eyeliner.
• Artists will often be in
bands, who play
instruments (Guitars, drums)
