Robert Doisneau was a French photographer born in 1912 who pioneered photojournalism in Paris in the 1930s using a Leica camera. He is renowned for his 1950 photo "Le baiser de l'hôtel de ville" which captured an anonymous couple kissing in public in Paris and became a symbol of young love. The photo remained a mystery until 1992 when the couple was finally identified. Doisneau was appointed a Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honour.
