Employed in a Quality Engineer role, I was the quality lead for the forge site of the Barrett Steel
Energy Products group, with a remit to maintain, improve and ensure conformance with the ISO
9001 accredited Quality Management System.
Working in a technically challenging and time demanding manufacturing environment, I have
been able to develop my knowledge of forging, heat treatment, machining, destructive testing,
and non-destructive testing processes to a good level of understanding.
I was responsible for reviewing and approving internal route cards prior to release for
manufacture, with an emphasis on checking route card instructions against material
specifications, engineering drawings, destructive testing requirements, and non-destructive
testing requirements.
I was also responsible for investigating non-conformance issues, coordinating cross-functional
investigation teams to perform root cause analysis and establish non-conformance origins. In
agreement with customer requirements and all internal manufacturing functions, I planned and
implemented containment, corrective, and preventative actions.
In addition to my daily workload, I was also the key driver on site for the implementation and
execution of continual improvement projects.
My key achievements in this role were:
 Developed my technical understanding of forging, heat treatment, destructive testing and
non-destructive testing to a sufficient level to write forging procedures, heat treatment
procedures and manufacturing plans for internal and customer approval.

2.  Attended rudimentary metallurgy and sub-sea metallurgy courses to develop material
knowledge.
 Using Microsoft Office drawing software, generated Furnace Load Plans, Test Location
Plans, and basic engineering drawings for internal and customer approval.
 Technically reviewed internal route card instructions against material specifications,
engineering drawings, and testing requirements prior to release to production.
 Redesigned and re-implemented the contract review process in order to reduce route
card instruction errors, and reduce the time taken between receipt of orders and release
of route cards to production – Cost of Non-Quality as a percentage of sales for the period
Jan 2014 to Oct 2015 reduced from 11% to 3%. On Time Delivery rate increased from
85% to 92% for the period Jan 2015 to Oct 2015.
 Redesigned and re-implemented the route card review process with an emphasis on
incorporating technical input from all process experts – Right First Time rate increased
from 91% to 97% for the period Jan 2015 to Oct 2015.
 Wrote generic procedures and purchasing specifications for the Barrett Steel Energy
Group.
 Reviewed and approved customer specifications prior to manufacture – developed
specification summary sheets to aid technical estimating and route card design functions.
 Utilised historical testing data to analyse material performance as part of material
approval process and non-conformance investigative/containment/corrective processes.
 Materials matrix with a red/amber/green approval coding system developed and
maintained utilising historical testing data, in order to provide technical estimators with an
easy reference visual guide to material performance.
 Batch calculator developed to aid the batching of forgings through heat treatment and
testing cycles – calculator helped save material and consumables costs by reducing
number of heat treatment loads and amount of testing material required to qualify
batches of forgings.
 Developed strong working relationships with process experts from all technical,
manufacturing and testing functions – facilitated cross-function meetings to investigate
non-conformance issues, and coordinated cross-functional action plans to implement
corrective and preventative countermeasures.
 Facilitated monthly business improvement meetings and weekly non-conformance review
meetings to report quality performance and record improvement suggestions from across
all business areas.
 Attended internal auditing training in accordance with requirements of ISO 9001 –
conducted internal audits on site and assisted with supplier audits.
 Hosted customer audits on site, demonstrating effectiveness of QMS in accordance with
requirements of ISO 9001.
 Supervised three document controllers, coordinating and delegating work as required.
 Enrolled on a Chartered Quality Institute distance learning course, with the aim of
achieving a Level 3 qualification in quality management – first module of fully funded
course completed, with four more modules left to complete.

Employed as a document controller, I was part of a three person document control and quality
administrative team with responsibilities to generate certificates of conformity in accordance with
all applicable manufacturing and testing requirements.
Quickly demonstrating a willingness and the capability to assume greater responsibility, I was
additionally tasked with generating Inspection Test Plans and Manufacturing Process Plans for
customer’s pre-manufacturing approval.

3. I also took control of recording non-conformance issues and reporting such issues to customers,
which developed into an investigation and countermeasure implementation role utilising input
from process experts from across all business areas.
Additionally, having developed my technical understanding of process functions in a short space
of time, I assumed responsibility for reviewing and approving certification of conformity prior to
despatch.
As required I assisted with all administrative functions within the department, including generation
of delivery notes.
Nov 2011 – Feb 2013 Manpower UK Ltd
Employed in the subscriptions department of Unite the Union, via Manpower UK Ltd. This was a
clerical role which involved allocating large subscription payments to member accounts. The
payments, received by cheque or electronic transfer, had to be allocated with complete accuracy
to member accounts and fully reconciled to demonstrate accuracy.

Employed as the Exam Team Manager for a company providing vocational qualifications across a
range of service sectors, I had responsibilities to track student progress through the learning
process and issue certificates of achievement on successful completion of their studies. I also
invigilated exams and visited new customers to enroll students.
Nov 2009 - March 2011 Royal Navy
Enlisted as an Air Engineering Technician trainee, I was attached to the Commando Helicopter
Force within the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy. Training to service and repair Sea King
helicopters, I studied basic aeronautical engineering and worked on a training squadron to apply
the principles of maintaining aircraft in a fit-for-service condition.

Employed as an Administrative Officer, I performed a wide range of roles across ten years of
service, including case worker, complex case handover, and mentoring roles. The work involved
corresponding with customers verbally and in writing to process self-assessment tax returns,
calculate PAYE tax codes, collect underpaid tax, and issue refunds of overpaid tax. Having
developed considerable knowledge in these fields I was chosen to mentor new members of staff
following large scale recruitment initiatives.
