- I am a capable graduate in Environmental Science who has gained experience in a
number of roles since graduating.
- I have experience in process management with particular abilities in problem solving.
- I can swiftly learn new skills and was one of the only people in my last company who
could operate all processes as required.
- I am confident presenting and communicating, with extensive experience in customer
care including dealing with difficult customers and conflict resolution/diffusion.
- I also have experience managing my own workload, operating to tight timescales and
working under pressure.
- In addition I’ve spent time both working in and leading teams and dealing with a
variety of people, including professionals and members of the public.
EMPLOYMENT HISTORY AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Oxygen Sensor Production at DD Scientific & Testing (October 2014-2015)
I produced and tested oxygen sensors for DD Scientific, Portchester. I worked to targets to
meet customer orders and maintained management information on the production
process. The production process for oxygen sensors is temperamental and I developed a
problem-solving role, working with the R&D engineer to resolve issues in the production
line and maximise the yield of in-range sensors. I also operated other processes in the
company as required including toxic sensor production, quality testing, electrode
fabrication and other ad hoc duties. I was one of a small number of workers who learned
every process, demonstrating effectiveness at picking up new skills and methods.
Tasks involved:
- Managing the production process from start to finish.
- Building oxygen sensors to meet targets and customer orders, ensuring high build quality.
- Glitch and gas testing the sensors to ensure the customer always gets them in-spec using in-
house software to measure the output at rest and when exposed to gas.
- Solving problems along the production process to maximise yield of in-range sensors. I
worked alongside a more experienced production engineer, learning from his knowledge
and experience to solve more complex technical problems.
- Explaining the process to customers during occasional customer visits.
- Stock control of materials.
- Fabrication of electrodes, both for factory use and export.
Traffic Marshal at Brittany Ferries (April 2014 – October 2014)
I worked full time as a Traffic Marshal at Brittany Ferries, directing cars to appropriate
lanes so the ferries can be loaded as efficiently as possible, and greeting arriving
passengers. This job greatly enhanced my communication and customer care skills, as well
as giving me experience with logistics and working in a high pressure environment to tight
timescales.
Tasks involved:
- Greeting arriving passengers and directing them into the correct lanes for their sailing.
- Responding to customer queries, always being approachable and friendly.
- Sorting cars by size to load the ferries as quickly and efficiently as possible.
- Working as a team to ensure loading targets are met and all vehicles are on board so the
ferry departs on time.
- Responding to specific requests over the radio.
- Undertaking tasks as directed by supervisor such as assistance with baggage.
2. Volunteer at the British Heart Foundation (November 2013 – April 2014)
Full time work experience, I worked both as a general assistant on the shop floor, and with
stock rotation in the storeroom developing my skills in organisation and customer service. I
have also developed my communication and teamwork skills further through doing this work.
I initiated some marketing work within the store, managing window and in-shop displays and
ensuring the best presentation possible and the most desirable items for the target market.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree, University of Portsmouth (2010-2013)
BSc (Hons) Environmental Science, (2:2). This course gave me significant environmental
knowledge in a variety of areas such as energy resources, contaminated land,
environmental audit & risk assessment and sustainability.
Skills gained:
- Gained significant IT experience, particularly in the use of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint,
and also with other data analysis software.
- Working in a group to produce and present project work and research.
- Presentation skills through presenting research to peers and to lecturers, using both
PowerPoint and academic poster presentation formats.
- Conducting research using primary literature sources and applying a variety of research
tools.
- Experience working in a laboratory setting and in the field to conduct tests on samples that
provide results to allow a conclusion to be formed.
Final Year Dissertation title: ‘Are modern nuclear resources a suitable addition or alternative to
renewables for the UK’s carbon neutral future?’
A-levels, St Augustine’s Catholic College, Trowbridge (2008-2010)
3 A levels: Physics (B), Biology (B), and Chemistry (C).
Secondary Education: (2003-2008)
12 GCSEs, including grade A in Maths and English, A* in ICT
VOLUNTEERING
Treasurer of the Christian Union University Society (Feb 2012 - Feb 2013)
As well as administering the society’s finances and budget for the year, the post as part of
the society committee involved making executive decisions, and organising the day to day
running of the society. I also liaised with people, gave advice, proved myself to be
trustworthy and solved issues and disputes between people within the society.
FOMO Trip to Malawi in Africa (2008)
I was part of a team that went to Malawi with the charity FOMO (Friends of Mulanje
Orphans) to help paint an orphanage and work with the children. We each raised around
£800 over 12 months through various events and work to fund the trip.
INTERESTS AND HOBBIES
- I built my own high-end computer from scratch, buying all the components separately
and assembling them. The result was a fully functional high spec PC, costing much less
than a similar pre built one would have.
- Guitar: Self-taught, electric and acoustic, I have provided lessons to several other
people.
- Cycling, generally mountain biking (cross country).
Full, clean UK driving licence. Computer literate with experience using MS office.
