Distracted driving poses serious risks and contributes to many crashes. Using a cell phone while driving can increase crash risk up to 4 times as it takes a driver's attention away from the road. Texting is especially dangerous as it requires taking both hands and eyes off the road. Other common distractions include eating, adjusting devices, interacting with passengers, and being distracted by people or objects outside the vehicle. Education and enforcement of laws against distracted driving are needed to improve road safety.
