Educating
  students
  has
  been
  a
  passion
  of
  mine
  since
  my
  undergraduate
  experience,
  and
  has
  continued

through
  today
  where
  I
  have
  moved
  into
  the
  role
  of
  educator.
  Most
  of
  the
  work
  I
  have
  done
  in
  education

has
  been
  outside
  of
  a
  classroom
  setting,
  where
  I
  have
  had
  the
  privilege
  of
  helping
  students
  in
  a
  variety

of
  ways
  including
  academic,
  with
  identities,
  in
  career
  planning
  and
  job
  seeking,
  through
  student
  conduct

meetings,
  and
  in
  assisting
  them
  with
  leadership
  development.
  This
  work
  has
  not
  only
  taught
  me
  how
  to

engage
  with
  students
  positively,
  but
  also
  how
  to
  create
  an
  environment
  that
  is
  conducive
  to
  learning.
  I

remain
  committed
  to
  serving
  students
  as
  not
  only
  a
  teacher,
  but
  also
  a
  lifelong
  learner,
  gaining
  insight

and
  knowledge
  from
  the
  students
  with
  whom
  I
  interact.

I
  value
  interactive
  learning
  where
  students
  can
  participate
  in
  the
  learning
  and
  teaching
  process.
  To

accomplish
  this,
  I
  plan
  to
  utilize
  different
  instructional
  methods
  that
  appeal
  to
  different
  learning
  styles.

These
  methods
  may
  include
  lectures,
  discussions,
  group
  work,
  service
  learning,
  experience
  in
  the
  field,

and
  student-‐led
  facilitation.
  I
  also
  believe
  that
  facilitating
  class
  using
  multiple
  instructional
  methods
  will

challenge
  students
  to
  understand
  the
  many
  ways
  in
  which
  they
  will
  have
  to
  interact
  and
  receive

information
  in
  their
  future
  careers
  and
  lives.
  I
  will
  create
  an
  atmosphere
  that
  is
  comfortable,
  where
  each

student
  can
  feel
  safe
  and
  know
  that
  she/he/ze
  matters.
  Each
  student
  will
  come
  to
  class
  with
  different

reason
  and
  knowledge.
  It
  is
  my
  hope
  that
  all
  students
  can
  feel
  heard,
  validated
  and
  listened
  to
  as
  they

explore
  how
  the
  course
  content
  relates
  to
  who
  they
  are
  and
  knowledge
  they
  currently
  hold.
  I
  will
  create

course
  content
  that
  helps
  students
  learn
  foundational
  concepts,
  problem
  solving,
  facilitation,

communication,
  listening,
  critical
  thinking,
  writing,
  synthesizing,
  and
  group
  work
  skills.
  Teaching
  is

something
  I
  have
  grown
  very
  passionate
  about.
  Seeing
  students
  in
  the
  classroom
  developing
  their

understanding,
  struggling
  with
  different
  topics,
  getting
  excited
  about
  content,
  and
  ultimately
  achieving

success
  is
  something
  that
  I
  greatly
  enjoy.
