Stephanie Jones is an affiliated faculty member at the Center on the Developing Child and the Marie and Max Kargman Associate Professor in Human Development and Urban Education Advancement at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. Her basic developmental research focuses on the longitudinal effects of poverty and exposure to violence on social and emotional development in early childhood and adolescence. In addition, she conducts evaluation research focusing on the developmental impact of school-based interventions targeting children's social-emotional skills and aggressive behavior, as well as their basic academic skills.

Anxiety disorders are the most prevalent, affecting approximately 4% of adolescents globally. The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted youth mental health, increasing feelings of anxiety, depression, and loneliness according to UNICEF surveys. Adolescence is a vulnerable time for developing mental health issues as youth experience physical, emotional, and social changes while coping with stress and transitions in life. Early detection and treatment of mental health issues is important for supporting healthy development into adulthood.
Risk behaviour management
This document discusses risk behaviors and risk management. It defines risk behaviors as actions that jeopardize value yet provide an opportunity for perceived positive outcomes. Some examples given are fighting, gangs, drug use, bullying, and more. Piaget found that children’s ideas regarding rules, moral judgements and punishment tended to change as they got older. In other words just as there were stages to children’s cognitive development so also there were universal stages to their moral development. Piaget suggested two main types of moral thinking:
Heteronomous morality (moral realism)
• Autonomous morality (moral relativism)

Moral Development
Lawrence Kohlberg was an American psychologist known for his theory of moral development. He proposed that moral reasoning develops through six distinct stages - pre-conventional, conventional, and post-conventional. At each stage, moral reasoning is qualitatively different. Kohlberg studied moral development through hypothetical moral dilemmas and found development progresses sequentially through the stages without skipping any. His theory emphasizes that moral reasoning develops as a result of cognitive disequilibrium caused by social interaction and experience with moral dilemmas.

Psychosocial Prevention of Dangerous Behaviour in Childhood and Adolescence
Children and adolescents are strongly oriented to the present. Most important for them is the
satisfaction of present needs, and the possibility of new adventures and experiences. Pointing out the negative
consequences of an unhealthy action is of no importance to children and young people. They have other, more
important concerns than 'prevention'. Particular attention should be paid to the dangerous behaviour of young
people. With such behaviour, young people try to achieve recognition, for example. For this reason, children
and young people should be given the space and the opportunity to achieve this in a different way. The
purpose of this study was to approach, analyze and ultimately examine Psychosocial Prevention of Dangerous
Behaviour in Childhood and Adolescence in order to assist prevention and health promotion work. The
method adopted for the study was a review of the relevant literature. Based on this study, we find that the more
successful prevention proposals so far have been aimed at enhancing general life skills. Personal resources,
such as a positive image of oneself, the perception of one’s body and one’s self-confidence, as well as social
resources play a decisive role in this matter. The ability to support these factors arises from the field of
movement, play and sport. In summary, the opportunities for movement, play and sports do not only satisfy the
need of children and adolescents to enjoy life, to gain experience and independence, but they are also a
potential means of enhancing general competencies (cognitive, kinetic, aesthetic, social and emotional
abilities).

Changes on reaching adolescence
Adolescence is a transition period between childhood and adulthood where the body undergoes significant physical changes like increased height and development of secondary sex characteristics. It is also a time of mental and emotional maturation. Some challenges adolescents face include conflicts with parents, influence of peer groups, and mood swings. Parents and teachers play an important role by monitoring behavior, providing counseling, and creating opportunities to develop interests through extracurricular activities in order to help adolescents through this transition period.
