2. WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?
Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city in Brazil and is known for its breath-
taking views, laidback beach culture and annual world famous carnival.
The city is divided into the historic downtown Centro, tourism based Zona Sul,
residential Zona Norte, Barra da Tijuca, one of the richest places in Brazil and
Zona Oeste.
Getting around in Rio is simpler than you think! The public transportation system
covers most of the major sights, making them an efficient mode to tour the city.
Metro is the most reliable amongst them along with radio taxis.
Rio has endless miles of golden sand beaches and the most popular are world
class twins, Copacabana beach and Ipanema Beach. The coastline never sleeps
as visitors sunbathe, play soccer and dance until way after the sun has gone
down.

4. WEATHER
During the summer months of December through March the temperatures can
reach up to 45° while during the winters between June to August it can hover
between 16°C - 20°C.
Summer comes to Rio de Janeiro in December and ends around February. The
chance of rain tends to be slightly higher during the summer due to the tropical
influences of the climate, with a higher humidity and higher temperatures.
However, this does not stop Rio from enjoying sunny skies between rain showers
as New Year and Carnival celebrations are rarely damped by a downpour.
Winter in Rio de Janeiro lasts from June until August. It is slightly cooler with a lot
less humidity and much smaller chance of rain. It is still warm and sunny enough
to enjoy the beaches.
5. CLOTHING
Rio de Janeiro’s climate means it is warm and humid all year round,
therefore visitors should wear casual, cotton clothing. Shorts and t-shirts
are a commonly worn in both the summer and winter months in Brazil.
For the summer months, remember to protect yourself with high factor
sun cream and sunglasses while exposed to the sun.
If you are travelling during the winter, bring a jumper or jacket to be
prepared for the slightly cooler temperatures.
