PhD DISSERTATION
Stability in the world financial market, while two schools of thought are competing for their
share of the market, is the focal point of my thesis. In fact, conventional system that has
dominant position in the world financial market has experienced big catastrophe such as 1929
great depression and 2007 subprime crisis in recent decades. These crises have imposed huge
cost on the world economy. On the other hand, Islamic financial system claim that it can
provide more stability and also growth for world economy is growing very fast in spite of its
small share in entire financial market. The question is, can we expect more improvement for
Islamic finance. In other word, whether Islamic finance will be survived in this combat or will
goes to die out. The same question is exist also for conventional finance. Finally if both
survive, where would be the equilibrium point? and what is their share in the equilibrium?
For analyzing this idea, I am going to use the Evolutionary Stable Strategy (ESS) method.
This method that originated from game theory and introduced by Smith & Price, (1973) is
very suitable approach for evaluating population evolution. This study will expand the
economic stability literature and also will provide better environment for policy makers to
improve the stability of the systems.
* I did all my comprehensive exams and submitted my proposal for committee members
