It is located along the boundaries of the Pacific plate and surrounding plates in the Mediterranean and Pacific regions. The Ring of Fire is important because the collision of plates at their boundaries causes the crust and underlying lava to be squeezed and raised, resulting in earthquakes and volcanoes along the zone.
