If you are crafting a better customer experience, automating your business, or modernizing your systems, you are likely finding that your data and analytics platform is absolutely critical to your success. In this session, we will look at how customers are building on the managed services from Amazon Web Services to meet the needs of the business. Patterns we see gaining popularity are near-real time engagement with customers over mobile, also combining and analyzing unstructured consumer behavior with structured transactional data, as well as managing spiky data workloads. See how our customers use our managed, elastic, secure, and highly available services to change what is possible.

The RightScale 2017 State of the Cloud Report is now hot off the press. It includes insights based on the responses of more than 1,000 IT professionals to give you a comprehensive picture of cloud adoption trends. The survey results provide the hard data you need to benchmark your organization against others of similar size, develop your 2017 cloud strategy and goals, and mobilize your internal stakeholders for cloud initiatives.
With the upswell of cloud adoption, many traditional infrastructure paradigms are shifting. Security is no different. The cloud service provider industry is discovering new ways to tackle security, including automation, bottomless logging, scalable analysis clusters, and pluggable security tools. This session presents a case study in extending a traditional infrastructure operation into AWS. We provide a practical look into the technical challenges and benefits of operating in this new paradigm, explore incident response automation (Alexa integration), and provide various examples of shifting an on-premises security operation to a scalable, hybrid model. Through lessons learned and analysis, we show why your data is safer in the cloud than in that rack you can touch in your data center.
Speaker: Alastair Cousins, Solutions Architect, Amazon Web Services
In this session, we provide an overview of the Amazon Partner Network (APN) and programs available to partners who want to accelerate their business with government, education, and nonprofit customers. The Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of Web Applications in the AWS Cloud - Jine...Amazon Web Services
Weighing the financial considerations of owning and operating a data center facility versus employing a cloud infrastructure requires detailed and careful analysis. In practice, it is not as simple as just measuring potential hardware expense alongside utility pricing for compute and storage resources. The Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is often the financial metric used to estimate and compare direct and indirect costs of a product or a service. Given the large differences between the two models, it is challenging to perform accurate apples-to-apples cost comparisons between on-premises data centers and cloud infrastructure that is offered as a service. In this presentation, we explain the economic benefits of deploying a web application in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud over deploying an equivalent web application hosted in an on-premises data center and highlight the 5 things to not forget while calculating TCO.

I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Latency
• Consumers

reduces

32. Design Considerations
Location of Physical Hardware
• On-premises
• Availability considerations (power, cooling, networking, etc.)
• Hosted or Co-location facility
• Accessibility of hardware for additions and/or modification
• Latency to end users
• Security
33. Design
ConsideraBons
Availability and Redundancy Configuration
• Easiest configuration (single zone, single region, single API endpoint)
does not promote high availability
• High Availability of resources requires more complex configurations

are
good
pracBces

• Stateless

• If

– Highly-‐available

– Implement

And
is
there
a

Do
you

How
