For drama exams, the assistant helped rig and focus lights as directed by the lighting design. Some requested gels were unavailable so substitutes had to be used. One light was plugged into the wrong socket, which was corrected. When focusing lights, the assistant had to precisely position Source Four and Minuette lights and adjust the size, edges, and shape of the spotlights. Better gloves and communication during rigging would have improved the process, but focusing communication was clear.

1. For the A2 Drama Exams I am operating Lighting for the Piece Case 2072, but
before this we had to rig and focus the lights how the lighting design has
planned it out. I was asked to cut the chosen Gels for the lights wanted but
none of the gels he wanted were there so we had to pick the closest colour to
that. When it came to the focusing and rigging I was asked to rig and light that
had been plugged into the wrong plug so I had to correct that. When I had to
focus the light I had to move it to exactly where it is wanted and if it was a
Source Four I had to sharpen the edges and make the spotlight smaller. When
it came to the Minuette Profile I had to put an iris in and shape the spotlight to
what was wanted.
What I would change about the focusing is to wear something on my hands as I
kept letting go of the light as it was getting hot and then we would lose where
we wanted the light. Also when we were pushing the Talescope round there
was lack of communication of where we were pushing it. On the other hand
there was plenty of communication for when it came to focusing as it was clear
where he wanted the light and how sharp the spotlight was.
