Event Overview
BIM is the new buzzword in the construction industry, producing better
collaboration throughout the construction chain. However, many quantity
surveyors are unsure of how they can use BIM to their best advantage. This
event is designed to show how the QS can get the most out of BIM and work
more closely with the rest of the project team. Our first speaker, Clarence Mak,
will explore the current state & future ideals of BIM, and how CostX can work
with both of these; our second speaker Sr. Amirhosein Mehdipoor will then
present his experiences of using BIM on the recent billion dollar Perth
Children’s Hospital Project, and the challenges & opportunities that the BIM
Manager role can present

2. About the speakers:
Sr. Amirhosein Mehdipoor is the BIM Manager in PNFL Sdn Bhd and Senior
Vice President in BMP Sdn Bhd. He is an Associate Member of the RISM, and
has been working as a surveyor since 2008; including working with BIM tools
for the last 5 years. During his career, Amir has been involved in many mega
projects, such as the USD 5 billion proposed Garraf Contract Area
Infrastructure Development Plan in Iraq. He holds a University Certificate in
Civil Engineering – Cartography from University of Tehran, Bachelor (Hons) in
Building Surveying and Master of Facilities Management and Maintenance from
University of Malaya (UM), and also completed the BIM Planning Course
(Building Developers and Facility Manager) from Building and Construction
Authority Singapore in 2015 (BCA). His background of design and cost
management allows him to specialise in utilising BIM, to add value and increase
efficiencies for the pre-contract and design management teams.
Clarence Mak is a Product Specialist in the Hong Kong office of Exactal, the
makers of on-screen measuring and estimating software CostX. At Exactal,
Clarence provides frontline support for Malaysia-based clients and plays an
important part in developing the product for the Asian market. Clarence
received a Bachelor of Building Economics from University of Technology
Sydney and since then has amassed almost ten years’ experience in the
construction industry, working for companies such as Rider Levett Bucknall. He
has a wealth of BIM experience, including developing BIM training for Exactal,
and has travelled around the world giving CostX BIM training courses to some
of Exactal’s largest clients.
