30% people in India suffer from food poverty, and at the same time, one million tonnes of food is wasted. In fact, India is worst waster of food in World. Supermarkets, restaurants, cafes and caterers contribute significantly to this figure. This isn’t their fault, it’s just that uncertain demand means that good food goes unsold. Disposing of food adds to the already high costs of running their business.

LMRF - Future Past in Childhood disability and developmentLMRF
Lion Mukhlesur Rahman Foundation was established in 2001 with the purpose of providing free cleft lip/palate surgery and rehabilitation. It was the first such organization in the Chittagong to provide such services. From its earliest days, LMRF has been primarily focused on providing out-of-the box healthcare services to the marginalized communities. Moreover, the services continue to be free of cost.
Twelve years since it has been established, LMRF today has transformed into an organization that primarily deals with children. After 2010, free of cost Clubfoot treatments have also been included and since then LMRF is the only organization that provides such service in the entire Chittagong division.
Based on today’s context and the needs of the future, over the next few years, LMRF intends to position itself as the most recognized children’s charity in Chittagong and Bangladesh. With this mission, LMRF introduces its flagship initiative – SHAPING UP TOMORROW.
A. Vision 2020 – Shaping Up Tomorrow
Lion Mukhlesur Rahman Foundation (LMRF) wants to be recognized as the Most Productive, Cost-Effective and leading children’s charity of Bangladesh with a manifesto of ensuring that every child gets the opportunity to grow up to the best of their potential without any barriers (physical, mental and social).
B. Purpose and Values:
This vision is driven by the idea that all under-privileged children born with physical, develompemtal and psyco-social barriers, bear equal potential to be a bright future for the country, if they are given a chance.
Our strengths lie in the disciplined delivery of quality health care and community effort to eliminate childhood problems and disabilities and continuous thrive for innovation in healthcare service to bring miracle in the lives of these needy children.
C. Mission for 2014 - 16
In 2014, LMRF will begin establishing the building blocks of Shaping Up Tomorrow. This includes strengthening existing projects, building teams to carry the vision, building infrastructure to support the intended growth and most importantly establish a secure funding strategy to become a high quality child development & rehabilitation organization by 2016 and carry towards the Shaping Up Tomorrow vision.

New Directions in Targeted Therapeutic Approaches for Older Adults With Mantl...i3 Health
i3 Health is pleased to make the speaker slides from this activity available for use as a non-accredited self-study or teaching resource.
This slide deck presented by Dr. Kami Maddocks, Professor-Clinical in the Division of Hematology and
Associate Division Director for Ambulatory Operations
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.
Target Audience
Hematology/oncology fellows, attending faculty, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL).
Learning Objectives
1.) Identify clinical and biological prognostic factors that can guide treatment decision making for older adults with MCL
2.) Evaluate emerging data on targeted therapeutic approaches for treatment-naive and relapsed/refractory MCL and their applicability to older adults
3.) Assess mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies for MCL and their implications for treatment selection

Flu Vaccine Alert in Bangalore Karnatakaaddon Scans
As flu season approaches, health officials in Bangalore, Karnataka, are urging residents to get their flu vaccinations. The seasonal flu, while common, can lead to severe health complications, particularly for vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions.
Dr. Vidisha Kumari, a leading epidemiologist in Bangalore, emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated. "The flu vaccine is our best defense against the influenza virus. It not only protects individuals but also helps prevent the spread of the virus in our communities," he says.
This year, the flu season is expected to coincide with a potential increase in other respiratory illnesses. The Karnataka Health Department has launched an awareness campaign highlighting the significance of flu vaccinations. They have set up multiple vaccination centers across Bangalore, making it convenient for residents to receive their shots.
To encourage widespread vaccination, the government is also collaborating with local schools, workplaces, and community centers to facilitate vaccination drives. Special attention is being given to ensuring that the vaccine is accessible to all, including marginalized communities who may have limited access to healthcare.
Residents are reminded that the flu vaccine is safe and effective. Common side effects are mild and may include soreness at the injection site, mild fever, or muscle aches. These side effects are generally short-lived and far less severe than the flu itself.
Healthcare providers are also stressing the importance of continuing COVID-19 precautions. Wearing masks, practicing good hand hygiene, and maintaining social distancing are still crucial, especially in crowded places.
Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting vaccinated. Together, we can help keep Bangalore healthy and safe this flu season. For more information on vaccination centers and schedules, residents can visit the Karnataka Health Department’s official website or follow their social media pages.
Stay informed, stay safe, and get your flu shot today!

Funds donated to: The MSA Global Health Program
The Medical Students´ Association (MSA) Global Health Program (GHP) aims to
increase awareness among the student body about global health issues locally
and internationally, where we define global health as the health of under-served
populations. The group aspires to do this by engaging students in local activities
that deal with health inequities and foster advocacy skills.
We provide students with opportunities for international experiences and
electives, and help to expand their horizons. Prior to going on an elective to the
developing world we provide pre-departure training for all students. The MSA GHP
is also responsible for assisting with charitable events and educational campaigns
such as the MSA Global Health Photo Contest and Silent Auction, the Rich Man
Poor Man Dinner, the MSA Global Health Awareness Week and World AIDS Day.
Thank you for your continued support!
89. Students International Health
Association (SIHA)
The Students' International Health Association (SIHA) is a student-run non-profit
organization that works both locally within Edmonton and other Alberta regions
and internationally in rural regions in Tanzania, East Africa
SIHA's projects are based on a "Health for All" perspective and are structured
around the goals of reducing child mortality, combating malaria, HIV and other
prevalent diseases within the communities in which we work.
SIHA’s activities focus primarily on education and community engagement. By
delivering local, grassroots seminars on disease prevention and basic care, along
with the distribution of basic health provisions and the promotion of local groups,
SIHA aims to reduce the social and economic hardships presented by major
health threats in low-resource settings.
Thank you for your continued support!
135. School of Public Health
MPH Global Health Program
Global health aims to promote health equity amongst all nations and all people.
with a focus on the problems and challenges that affect the poor, vulnerable and
underserved populations worldwide. The “global” in global health refers to the
scope of the problem, not necessarily the location. The principles of global health
are applicable to both low and middle-income countries and for the reduction of
health disparities in Canada and other developed countries.
Public health practice is an integral part of the MPH degree. The practicum is a
full-time hands-on experience in a public health work setting. It provides the
opportunity for students to integrate and synthesize public health philosophy,
theory and practice through application and critical assessment. Students
contribute to a community or organization’s capacity to critically assess public
health issues, and design, implement and evaluate strategic initiatives, while at
the same time gaining confidence and skills as public health professionals.
Thank you for your continued support!

Crystal Zhou – Medicine 2015 – Qara-hoja, China – July 2012
This picture was taken at the ancient Silk Road city of Qara-hoja, in the far western reaches of China. What remains of a once-great city now blends in harmony with the desert ground and the endless sky. The feeling of oneness in that ancient place is infinite and transcendental. Amidst the sand, wind and sky, is another soul in this vast, echoing space.
Hilary Kornder (med2015). Livingstonia, Malawi – July 2012.
This photo was taken during my travels through East Africa in the small village of Livingstonia in Malawi. We hiked 16km up to this remote village and spent a few hours just sitting, "people watching" and admiring life up in this quiet, humble village. It amazed me how hiking just a few hours led me to a place where I felt like I had stepped back in time; life up in Livingstonia is simple but good. To me this photo represents the simplicity and authenticity of life that I often fail to take the time to appreciate and savor. Lessons learned in Livingstonia :)
Rabia Bana – Medicine 2015 – Karachi, Pakistan – May, 2012
Back to School. Discipline and authority can maintain inclusion in the superficial setting of single file lines. But real connections are made with the heart. Children display inclusion with their open mindedness and curiosity for life.
Rabia Bana – Medicine 2015 – The River Nile, Jinja, Uganda – July 2012
The river Nile has many forms. It goes from the calm and serene state as seen in this photo to erratic rapids further downstream. It is a constant reminder of the unpredictable nature of life.
Jolene Johnston (med2016). Kande Beach, Malawi, Africa. 2010. This photo is taken at the Kande Beach School, in Malawi, Africa. The children wanted to show me what they had learned that day in school, how they can count and do math on their calculator, made of string and bottle caps. All the children were very eager to learn and share with me what they knew. It was a very inspiring time, to see the desire to learn so strong and them knowing and understanding that an education is the only way that they will be able to make life better for themselves and their families.
Jolene Johnston. Kande Beach, Malawi, Africa. 2010. . This is the day I arrived; I had brought a bunch of school supplies with me to give to the students. School is free for the kids up until grade 8 but they have to bring their own supplies and have a school uniform to attend, many of whom cannot afford that. I took this picture as I was standing in the school library sorting the supplies when this little boy came up to the window put his hand through and asked ‘Madame, Pen? Pen?’ Seeing the sincerity and desire in this child to get an education inspired to take the photo.
