Birthday: June 9, 1990 Hometown: Carson City, Nev. Residence: Huntersville, N.C.   Mackena Bell, of Carson City, Nev., has been racing on the West Coast for eight years, working her way up the ladder from super outlaw dirt karts to super late models. Bell began racing karts in her hometown at Thunder Bowl Speedway before advancing to asphalt legends cars in 2005. That season, Bell became the only female to win a legends championship at Champion Speedway in Carson City. She was also the youngest driver to win a title in the track’s 42-year history. Bell moved up to full-size stock cars in 2007 and hasn’t looked back. She competed in her first full season in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif., in 2008 with her family-owned race team. She was the youngest female competitor in the late model division, and in 18 starts had three top fives, 11 top 10s and completed the season ninth in points after missing four races. This was enough to earn the attention of the Drive for Diversity program and Position One Motorsports. After testing at the annual Drive for Diversity Combine, Bell was invited to compete with Position One Motorsports in the Super Late Model division at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (Calif.) for the 2009 season. Bell embraced the challenge of a new division and a new track; she finished the season with one top five and 10 top 10s and became the only female to earn a top-three finish in the Super Late Model division in track history. Off the track, Bell believes in giving back to the community. She supports cancer research and awareness, especially for breast cancer and lung cancer, and even donated a portion of her 2009 earnings to the Carson Tahoe Cancer Resource Center in Carson City. Bell is also active in supporting youth programs and has coached youth basketball teams. When she’s not racing, Bell supports her sister, Kellcy, in her high school athletics and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.   Career Highlights Competed with Position One Motorsports as a participant in the 2009 D4D program; finished eighth in the super late model standings at Toyota Speedway with one top three and 10 top‐10 finishes. Finished eighth in the 2008 All American Speedway late model standings in her rookie season with family-owned Mackena Bell Motorsports. Finished fourth in the Legends of the Pacific West Coast Tour standings in the 1250cc asphalt division in 2007; also ran a limited number of late model events. Rookie season in asphalt legends at Shasta Raceway Park in 2006; finished fourth in 1250cc division. Legends division Rookie of the Year at Champion Speedway in 2005; also became the youngest driver ‐ and only female ‐ to win in track history. Began racing Outlaw Dirt Karts in 2002; won championship and rookie of the year in Box Stock division.
Birthday: March 10, 1989 Hometown: Winchester, Tenn. Residence: Lexington, N.C.   At 21 years-old, Ryan Gifford is ready to move his racing career to the next level. He started racing go-karts when he was 8 and hasn’t looked back. The Winchester, Tenn., native knew he wanted to make racing a career, even before he graduated from karts to dirt late models when he was 15. Gifford found success in late models right away, earning three poles and four top fives in his first season. He continued racing dirt late models and caught the eye of Richard Childress Racing (RCR) Vice President of Competition Mike Dillon in 2006. By 2008, Gifford had joined Team Dillon Racing as a development driver for RCR. Competing in the Fastrak Dirt Late Model Series, Gifford scored three wins and 17 top fives in 29 events. Last year, Gifford continued to race late models on asphalt and dirt. He also ran four races in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, earning three top-five finishes, including a second-place finish in the season finale at Dover International Speedway. Gifford is a hands-on driver and is at the shop working on race cars every chance he gets. He prides himself on knowing what he can do to make his cars faster. When he’s not racing or working on cars, Gifford enjoys snowboarding, wakeboarding, working out, going to drive-in movies and hanging out with friends.   Career Highlights Competing in a variety of events for Team Dillon Motorsports in 2009, including the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, and asphalt and dirt late model events across the Southeast. In 2008, earned three wins, 17 top fives and 20 top 10s in 29 starts in select dirt and asphalt late model events. Ran select dirt late model events in 2007; scored two top fives in the Storm Pay Dirt Late Model National. Competed in the 2006 Storm Pay Dirt Late Model National Series; one win, seven top fives and 11 top 10s. Started racing dirt late models in 2005; three poles, four top fives and 10 top 10s. Raced karts from 1997 ‐ 2004, winning a number of feature races and two track championships.
Birthday: February 13, 1993 Hometown: Winchester, Va. Residence: Mooresville, N.C.   Sergio Pena, 17, is ready to take on the challenge of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. Last season, Pena made a move towards NASCAR, making his debut in late models at Shenandoah (Va.) Speedway. Now Pena is driving in the K&N Pro Series East for Revolution Racing. He made his NASCAR K&N Pro Series debut at the 2010 Toyota All-Star Showdown, where he won the pole and finished second to NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Joey Logano. Pena, a high school junior at Davidson (N.C.) Day School, is no stranger to racing. He’s been competing since he was eight years old. After winning multiple championships at the go-kart level, he made the jump to the Formula TR Pro 1600 Series at age 13. Pena was on track to pursue a career as a Formula One driver, winning seven of his first 10 races. Rule changes and operating costs prevented Pena from making the jump to the Formula BMW Series in 2008, and led him to consider making the transition to NASCAR. That summer, Pena began testing late models and super trucks in preparation for a full season of racing in 2009. As a rookie at Shenandoah Speedway last season, Pena won six of 11 races. He also competed in NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model races at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va. Off the track, Pena enjoys playing basketball – he was a shooting guard on the JV and Varsity basketball teams at James Wood High School (Winchester, Va.) before relocating to North Carolina. Pena is also focused on finishing high school and enjoys riding dirt bikes and spending time with family and friends.   Career Highlights Rookie season in the late model division at Shenandoah Speedway in 2009; scored six wins at the quarter‐mile speedway before moving to Motor Mile Speedway mid‐way through the season. In 2008, competed in the Bill Scott Formula Car road racing series at Summit Point in formula continental wing cars; won every race entered. Finished second overall in the Formula TR Series standings in 2007; set seven track records and won 11 of 20 races. Competed in various WKA karting series from 2003 ‐ 2006; won several regional and national championships and won races in every class competed.
Birthday: October 8, 1993 Hometown: Mobile, Ala. Residence: Concord, N.C.   Darrell Wallace Jr., 16, still has a few months to wait before he can get his North Carolina driver’s license, but that doesn’t keep him from finding his way around the race track. Wallace, who lives in Concord, N.C., started racing when he was 9 years-old and has found plenty of success along the way. In 2009, Wallace was named a development driver for Joe Gibbs Racing. With support from JGR, he competed with his family-operated team in a number of late model events throughout the Southeast. Wallace has been racing late models for three years; he won his first late model race at Franklin County Speedway (Callaway, Va.) in 2008. At just 14, he was the youngest competitor to ever win a late model race at the historic speedway. Before late models, Wallace raced karts, bandoleros and legends cars, often dominating the competition. In 2005, Wallace’s first year of INEX Bandolero division competition, he won 35 of 48 races. The next year he moved up to INEX Legends cars, winning 11 races. Now Wallace is ready for a new challenge – his 16th birthday last October marked his move to NASCAR. He’s now old enough to compete in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, NASCAR’s premier development series. Off the track, Wallace, a junior at Northwest Cabarrus High School, is a regular teenager. He loves to play basketball and paintball, and spends his free time honing his skills on iRacing, an online racing simulator.   Career Highlights Competed in 23 late model events in 2009, including nine UARA Late Model division events; scored three wins and 11 top fives. Won a late model race at Franklin County Speedway in 2008, becoming the youngest driver to win a race at the track. Began racing late models in 2007; competed at several races throughout the Southeast, including Tri‐County Motor Speedway and Greenville Pickens Speedway. Completed the 2006 season with 11 wins, 27 top fives and 34 top 10s in 38 Legends car races. Competed in the Bandolero division in 2005, winning 35 of 48 races entered. Became the first driver to win all six races on the way to capturing the Lowe’s Motor Speedway Winter Heat Championship.
NASCAR K&N Pro Series The NASCAR K&N Pro Series is NASCAR’s top developmental series. The Series is made up of two regional tours, the East and the West. The East features events throughout the Atlantic seaboard, while the West runs along the Pacific coast and in a number of western states. Both run at a challenging combination of short tracks, intermediates, road courses and speedways, with a number of races held in combination with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events. NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Schedule Drive for Diversity Drive for Diversity is NASCAR’s leading on-track diversity initiative. Since the creation of the Drive for Diversity program in 2004, 31 drivers have competed, winning 34 races. In 2009, 12 Drive for Diversity drivers combined for six wins, 51 top fives and 125 top 10s. In 2010, Drive for Diversity will support 11 drivers in an academy-style development program. Drive for Diversity also supports pit crew athletes each year in the Drive for Diversity Crew Member Program presented by Sprint.
“He gave me a run for my money, that’s for sure. I knew if he ever got by me he was going to pull away; I thought it was really cool how he ran me clean.” – Joey Logano, 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year, on battling Sergio Pena in the Toyota All-Star Showdown “This is is a great step for these young kids to come into NASCAR and we give them a shot of a lifetime. They get to drive for [Revolution Racing], which is a top-notch team and have great equipment. This is not about them bringing thousands of dollars to a team. It's about their talent.” – Andy Santerre, Revolution Racing Director of Competition, K&N Pro Series “[Our drivers] are extremely hungry. They’re competitive against one another, but they’re also teammates and they support one another.” – Max Siegel, CEO of Revolution Racing

  • 5. Rookie season in asphalt legends at Shasta Raceway Park in 2006; finished fourth in 1250cc division. • 7. • 8.
