2. After writing about the rule of thirds in my
original photography plan, I have changed a few
things and my influence has been changed and
therefore the result of my final magazine cover,
contents page and double page spread have
adapted to my new influence.
3. Rule of thirds
Really well known magazine names like
NME, use the rule of thirds to make an subject
matter have a main focus. For example, making
sure that the head of somebody’s body is in the
centre field of the photograph making that the
main focus in that photograph.
4. Rule of thirds
The grid on my front cover of my magazine
boxes the main focus. By using the rule of thirds
in my work, it made it easier to make the main
focus obvious. As it is easy to see, the white
guitar is supposed to be the main focus on my
front cover. This is why I have made sure that
this subject matter is centre of the page so that
the eye is drawn to that. The reason that I
picked this subject matter to be the main focus
instead of the face of the person which is
normally the focal point in a shot of a person. I
think that by using the guitar as the focal point
instead adds a creative personality about my
magazine to my audience and therefore adds a
unique touch. By using photographs like this it
will be recognisable to the audience as a key
part of my music magazine.
5. Rule of thirds
By surrounding the photos with columns of texts
which contain valid information about what the
magazine has to offer the main story of the
magazine, this also makes the shots focus work
well along side the text as the columns surround
the image making the whole page look overall
more organised.
6. Reasons for change
As I wanted my magazine to be indie, after
researching in to indie magazines more I
realised that they were all quite unique
within themselves and had something that
would not necessarily be seen on a
usual/mainstream magazine. Below shows
a page in a magazine named ‘Indie’- this
shows a shot of a model only revealing half
of their face. This adds some attitude to
the model’s stance and therefore adds a
personality to the magazine page itself,
making it unique and interesting to the
reader of the magazine. By having more of
a creative style of working with the shots
you can create a mood for the magazine
page or magazine overall making the
magazine have its own personality and it
can therefore be recognised by the
audience from having such personality.
