Turning humans into developers with Perl - London Perl Workshop 2017Julien Fiegehenn
In this talk I explain my methodology for teaching apprentice software developers. I mainly use Perl, and often work with young trainees who start their professional careers with very little to no prior tech knowledge. I talk about the social aspects of being a mentor and show process examples that help with long-term motivation.

This was an online session where I and Kaivalya decided to share our journey by acquiring critical cloud skills using Cloud Certification as a medium.
I currently have 12 AWS Certifications and a bunch of others.
Kaivalya has 6 AWS Certifications and a lot of others.
I attended the Tabara de Testare testing group on 3rd February 2015 to present "Lessons Learned When Automating. A live stream from UK to Romania.
http://compendiumdev.co.uk/page/tabaradetestare201602
I've been asked some very challenging questions about lessons learned, and how decisions are made during the process of automating and performing technical testing. In this webinar I'm going to answer them based on my experience. We'll discus how we know 'what to automate' which means we have to split our analysis into 'detection' and 'testing'. We'll cover lessons learned from solving problems, and making mistakes, and steps we can take during the problem solving process e.g. for intermittent failures, and possible tool bugs. We'll discuss abstraction levels and the different levels of the technology stack to automate: how to do it, and how we make the decisions. We'll discuss coding primarily the differences, and the overlap, between the needs for coding for testing and coding for production deployment. We'll also cover some WebDriver specific answers to some of these questions. I'm also going to describe books and techniques that have helped me over the years when trying to deal with these questions on production projects.
Agile Testing examines software from the customer point of view, and requires that the entire team tests the product to deliver value.
According to James Bach, testing is the questioning of a product in order to evaluate it.
Agile Testing takes the fundamentals of software testing, and provides options for testing products delivered in Agile workflows. It focuses on early involvement of testers, defect prevention, quick feedback loops, test automation, and exploratory testing.
This presentation will start with selected ideas from Agile Testing, and
More Agile Testing, then Dag Rowe will tie in ideas from other practices and practitioners, notably BDD and Specification by Example
Practical DevSecOps: Fundamentals of Successful ProgramsMatt Tesauro
From ONUG Fall 2022:
"Shift Left'' and automation have turned from ideals to meaningless buzzwords. Instead of riding the hype train, let's get real and cover practical and real-world examples taken from actual product security successes. Not every business is the same, neither will their DevSecOps program.
In this talk, I'll cover the fundamentals of common to successful DevSecOps programs as well as a grab bag of useful techniques to consider. These are lessons learned doing AppSec at a wide variety of companies including Rackspace, Pearson, a fortune 500 financial, Duo Security and Cognizant Healthcare. Bruce Lee said "Research your own experience. Absorb what is useful, reject what is useless, add what is essentially your own". The goal of this talk is to provide you with enough examples to build your own pragmatic and practical DevSecOps program or maybe absorb a new technique or two into your existing program.
Why you don't need maths to get benefits of mlAseem Bansal
With all the hype around ML/AI everyone is looking at it. There is a widespread perception that you need to know Maths before you can do Machine learning. In this session we share why that is not true.
In this talk, Tatiana will take you on a journey from IC to Tech Lead. She had a lot of struggles and unknowns along the way for years, but she decided to share those experiences as well as the efficient way to go about the role. She will give actionable ideas and provide a reference point on how Tech Leading could look like in practice.

Everett Maus, Microsoft
As shipping cycles accelerate, the only way that security teams will be able to continue to enforce a consistent security bar on shipping code and prevent obvious (or less obvious) regressions is writing tools that can detect security issues--in short, security tools are key part of DevSecOps. However, there are plenty of common pitfalls that hamper security tool rollouts, preventing them from being successful.
In this talk, we'll cover types of tools you can build to help developers ship secure code, and then dig into best practices (and worst practices) for shipping tools to large developer organizations--referencing industry papers, academic studies, and experiences from various successful (and less successful) Microsoft tooling efforts.
This talk is aimed at security experts curious about tool development or considering developing their first tools. Existing security tool developers may find some parts of it interesting, but much of it rudimentary--we won't be covering new techniques for static analysis or revolutionary new fuzzing strategies.
I gave a talk about an excellent Clojure/ClojureScript rule engine library at Ichigaya Geek Night September 22 2017. https://ichigayageek.connpass.com/event/65356/
I gave a short talk at a small JavaScript study group about the strengths of ClojureScript in order to convince the audience to try it out. Event: https://it-ghost.connpass.com/event/59062/ June 24th, 2017
I gave a talk about a Clojure library called formative, which makes life better when you have to deal with web forms. These are the slides. Presentation was done in Japanese at the Lisp meetup #49 https://lisp.connpass.com/event/50148/
Summarized casual ethics considerations that are required for the Japanese Professional Engineering Examination. (技術士一次試験)
It covers basic principles and thought provoking examples (classic and recent)
Note to self on some potentially useful vim tricks.
Please do not that this is a constant wip, so if there is anything cool, please share or give me pointers!

1. June 2015 ~ Dec 2015 Postmortem
+ Jan 2016 ~ April 2016 Goals
Ikuru K
2. Purpose
● Review goals that I set so that I can have a
better life.
● General note:
– Really was not able to achieve much.
– Should be doing this more frequently, to catch the
divergence with the goals earlier.
3. Technical Goals
June 2015 ~ Dec 2015
● Master Spring Framework
– Became more familiar, but yet to master.
● Catch up with speed on embedded systems and machine learning
– Working on “Embedded System Specialist” certification.
– Yet to get to machine learning.
● Learn clojure: everyone who knows it well says its awesome, so going to give it a try.
– Gave it a try and experience was positive. Want to write something substantial with it.
● Finish the python powered EN-JP translation system.
– Gave this up because it was too ambitious.
● Contribute to FOSS in any way that I can. (Combat my shyness)
– Never happened,
– except for some translations contributed through Transifex
● Higher level certifications out of (Also look up for ones with value):
– Embedded System Specialist
– Network Specialist
● Working on these. ES exam in April, NS exam in October.
– Information Security Specialist
●
Low on the priority list.
4. Personality Issues that
I would like to combat
● Currently:
– Not well spoken
– Not Proactive
– Lazy
– Does not spend time wisely
– Loves comfort zones
– Short attention span for tasks that have less appeal
● Find a way to make them interesting
● Create a mechanism to make such tasks disappear from the universe
● Do not passively complain; be active
● Issues still persist. Need to install something.
● How to objectively measure these? Not sure.
5. Other Non Planned Achievements
● Started using emacs because it was advertised
to work better with clojure.
● Successfully deployed a personal redmine
instance on AWS.
– Fun learning, but was not that much useful,
however.
●
Passed 1st
examination for becoming a
Professional Engineer in Japan
