While scholars differ on the specifics of Revelation 20, the general message is clear. Christ will return and establish His kingdom, reward His people, and judge all that is unrighteous.
We praise God first for who he is, then what He has done and what is yet to come. Revelation is God's preview that any worldly system built on principles other than God's will go under and His Kingdom will come.

Racism and bigotry are a normal part of the world. But they shouldn't be a part of the church! It reflects our evil hearts and improper view of ourselves. The church should be an example to the world on how race relations should work!
Jesus is unjustly put on trial by the Jews and the Romans. To the Jews, He affirms that He is the Christ and to the Romans He affirms that He is the King. Jesus’ trial reminds us that Jesus suffered like this so that we could be saved.
A background look at the person (Daniel) and the circumstances surrounding his exile from Jerusalem to Babylon as well as a first description of the dream that forms the basis for Daniel’s prophecies.

As we look in the Old Testament we get glimpses of what is to come in the New Testament. Check out how the Feast of Trumpets looks forward to the time of Christ.
In 2007 the congregation read through "The Message" New Testament by Eugene Peterson. This lesson is taken from the assigned reading from September 2-8-07
To truly calculate the cost, you must consider both the cost of action and the cost of inaction not only for the near term but in the long term. Jesus calls us to a decision. Choose wisely.
Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Revelation part 24 (millennial mystery revelation 20)
1. Revelation 20:1-2
And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven,
having the key to the Abyss and holding in his
hand a great chain. He seized the dragon, that
ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and
bound him for a thousand years.
www.networkchristian.org
2. Revelation 20:3
He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and
sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving
the nations anymore until the thousand years
were ended. After that, he must be set free for a
short time.
www.networkchristian.org
3. Revelation 20:4
I saw thrones on which were seated those who
had been given authority to judge. And I saw the
souls of those who had been beheaded because
of their testimony for Jesus and because of the
word of God. They had not worshiped the beast
or his image and had not received his mark on
their foreheads or their hands. They came to life
and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
www.networkchristian.org
4. Revelation 20:5-6
(The rest of the dead did not come to life until
the thousand years were ended.) This is the first
resurrection. Blessed and holy are those who
have part in the first resurrection. The second
death has no power over them, but they will be
priests of God and of Christ and will reign with
him for a thousand years.
www.networkchristian.org
5. Revelation 20:7-8
When the thousand years are over, Satan will be
released from his prison and will go out to
deceive the nations in the four corners of the
earth—Gog and Magog—to gather them for
battle. In number they are like the sand on the
seashore.
www.networkchristian.org
6. Revelation 20:9-10
They marched across the breadth of the earth
and surrounded the camp of God’s people, the
city he loves. But fire came down from heaven
and devoured them. And the devil, who
deceived them, was thrown into the lake of
burning sulfur, where the beast and the false
prophet had been thrown. They will be
tormented day and night for ever and ever.
www.networkchristian.org
7. Revelation 20:11-12
Then I saw a great white throne and him who
was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his
presence, and there was no place for them. And
I saw the dead, great and small, standing before
the throne, and books were opened. Another
book was opened, which is the book of life. The
dead were judged according to what they had
done as recorded in the books.
www.networkchristian.org
8. Revelation 20:13
The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and
death and Hades gave up the dead that were in
them, and each person was judged according to
what he had done.
www.networkchristian.org
9. Revelation 20:14-15
Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake
of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If
anyone’s name was not found written in the
book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
www.networkchristian.org
10. People tend to have strong, and too
often UNINFORMED, opinions
Revelation 20 is abounding with
DIFFERENCES of opinion.
To judge is synonymous with RULE.
DENY myself for Christ; reign with Christ.
Sea, death and Hades giving up their dead
means EVERYONE faces judgment.
11. The mystery is how does the 1000
year period FIT with the whole of
Scripture?
Premillennial – pre meaning “before.” Christ
returns BEFORE a literal 1000 year reign.
Amillennial – a meaning “not” or “without”.
1000 years is symbolic.
Postmillennial – post meaning “after”. Christ
returns after a figurative “1000” year period.
12. While scholars differ in the
specifics, the GENERAL message
is God overthrows evil,
establishes His kingdom, rewards
the faithful and judges unfaithful.
The abyss is DISTINCT from the infamous lake of
fire.
13. Both literal and figurative views
make compelling arguments while
leaving UNRESOLVED questions.
Revelation has not outlined all the specifics, but
made the end PREDICTABLE.
I love it when scholars say things like clearly or
obviously when it is OBVIOUSLY not so clear.

My Next Step Today is to:
( ) Do the home life help (in bulletin)
( ) Be more diligent in studying God’s Word
( ) Meditate on Luke 9:23-27
( ) Take responsibility for sin in my life.
( ) Examine what kind of “record” my life is writing in
God’s book.
