ASAP Transaction Processing Corp Limited (ASAP TP), a transaction processing technology provider,
today unveiled nova.m, Hong Kong’s first mobile wallet solution for payments and loyalty programs.
ASAP TP will work closely with MasterCard Worldwide to roll-out nova.m using PayPass contactless
technology. Pre-engagement with retail merchants and transport partners is in progress to ensure that
nova.m is ready for consumer use at various touch points in the months to come.
“With the tap-and-go functionality and near field communications (NFC) enabled for payment and non-
payment transaction provisions, we believe we have a strong competitive proposition to enhance the
consumer experience both online and on the go,” said Ajmal Samuel, president & CEO at ASAP TP.
In addition to the mobile wallet solution, nova.m offers merchants significant value-added services as an
integrated part of any retail experience - whether it’s in-store, online, over-the-phone or through any
point-of-sales processing. While merchants will have the choice to accessing multiple funding sources
and service providers, consumers can experience simple and integrated loyalty platforms and
associated programs being offered by the merchants.
“Our collaboration with ASAP TP will bring PayPass contactless acceptance to Hong Kong. In addition,
MasterCard and ASAP TP will bring new and innovative mobile payment solutions to Hong Kong for the
benefit of both consumers and merchants,” said Jeroen van Son, head of Hong Kong and Macau,
MasterCard Worldwide.
The solution meets rising consumer demands for a greater variety of cashless and speedier payment
options, more secure transactions, and convenience provided by the convergent approach to payments,
loyalty programs, bonus points, e-coupons, vouchers, and e-receipts. Its real time account and
customized information provide a comprehensive view of personal and linked accounts while also
displaying loyalty rewards status.

Hong Kong's first mobile wallet system is now operational, allowing shoppers with smartphones to spend
without using physical cash at shops.
In the near future, they could also pay for their taxi rides using that.
Once the smartphone app, a software application called nova.m, is activated, users' bank and credit card
accounts can be linked to their smartphones.
They can then shop online and in real life, says ASAP Transaction Processing, the system's operator.
For real-world shopping, a "near field" communication tag attached to smartphones - provided to users in
selected shopping outlets - will allow shoppers to select the funding sources to activate on their phones.
"Near field" refers to a set of standards for smartphones and similar devices to establish radio
communication with each other by bringing them into close proximity.
"It replaces the swipe of credit cards," said Ajmal Samuel, president and chief executive of ASAP.
"The difference is [that] it gives you access to many funding sources, not just one credit card."
ASAP is in talks with Octopus, a card payment system operator, for the technology to be included as a
funding source for shopping and for use in taxis.
With regards to security, ASAP uses cloud computing technology to store users' personal banking
information. For their part, users could safeguard their personal data by not losing their phones, Samuel
said.
If users lose their smartphones, the mobile wallet system could be deactivated by calling ASAP's office,
Samuel said.
