Development of real-time indoor human tracking system using LoRa technology IJECEIAES
Industrial growth has increased the number of jobs hence increase thenumber of employees. Therefore, it is impossible to track the location of allemployees in the same building at the same time as they are placed in adifferent department. In this work, a real-time indoor human tracking systemis developed to determine the location of employees in a real-timeimplementation. In this work, the long-range (LoRa) technology is used asthe communication medium to establish the communication between thetracker and the gateway in the developed system due to its low power withhigh coverage range besides requires low cost for deployment. The receivedsignal strength indicator (RSSI) based positioning method is used to measurethe power level at the receiver which is the gateway to determine thelocation of the employees. Different scenarios have been considered toevaluate the performance of the developed system in terms of precision andreliability. This includes the size of the area, the number of obstacles in theconsidered area, and the height of the tracker and the gateway. A real-timetestbed implementation has been conducted to evaluate the performance ofthe developed system and the results show that the system has high precisionand are reliable for all considered scenarios.
Weeds detection efficiency through different convolutional neural networks te...IJECEIAES
The preservation of the environment has become a priority and a subject that is receiving more and more attention. This is particularly important in the field of precision agriculture, where pesticide and herbicide use has become more controlled. In this study, we propose to evaluate the ability of the deep learning (DL) and convolutional neural network (CNNs) technology to detect weeds in several types of crops using a perspective and proximity images to enable localized and ultra-localized herbicide spraying in the region of Beni Mellal in Morocco. We studied the detection of weeds through six recent CNN known for their speed and precision, namely, VGGNet (16 and 19), GoogLeNet (Inception V3 and V4) and MobileNet (V1 and V2). The first experiment was performed with the CNNs architectures from scratch and the second experiment with their pre-trained versions. The results showed that Inception V4 achieved the highest precision with a rate of 99.41% and 99.51% on the mixed image sets and for its version from scratch and its pre-trained version respectively, and that MobileNet V2 was the fastest and lightest with its size of 14 MB.
Feasibility of Artificial Neural Network in Civil Engineeringijtsrd
An Artificial neural network ANN is an information processing hypothesis that is stimulated by the way natural nervous system, such as brain, process information. The using of artificial neural network in civil engineering is getting more and more credit all over the world in last decades. This soft computing method has been shown to be very effective in the analysis and solution of civil engineering problems. It is defined as a body which works out the more and more complex problem through sequential algorithms. It is designed on the basis of artificial intelligence which is proficient of storing more and more information's. In this work, we have investigated the various architectures of ANN and their learning process. The artificial neural network based method was widely applied to the civil engineering because of the strong non linear relationship between known and un known of the problems. They come with good modelling in areas where conventional approaches finite elements, finite differences etc. require large computing resources or time to solve problems. These includes to study the behaviour of building materials, structural identification and control problems, in geo technical engineering like earthquake induced liquefaction potential, in heat transfer problems in civil engineering to improve air quality, in transportation engineering like identification of traffic problems to improve its flexibility , in construction technology and management to estimate the cost of buildings and in building services issues like analyzing the water distribution network etc. Researches reveals that the method is realistic and it will be fascinated for more civil engineering applications. The cuckoo search algorithm is a recently developed meta-heuristic optimization algorithm, which is suitable for solving optimization problems. To enhance the accuracy and convergence rate of this algorithm, an improved cuckoo search algorithm is proposed in this paper. Normally, the parameters of the cuckoo search are kept constant. This may lead to decreasing the efficiency of the algorithm. To cope with this issue, a proper strategy for tuning the cuckoo search parameters is presented. Then, it is employed for training feedforward neural networks for two benchmark classification problems. Finally, the performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with that of the standard cuckoo search. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Noisy image enhancements using deep learning techniquesIJECEIAES
This article explores the application of deep learning techniques to improve the accuracy of feature enhancements in noisy images. A multitasking convolutional neural network (CNN) learning model architecture has been proposed that is trained on a large set of annotated images. Various techniques have been used to process noisy images, including the use of data augmentation, the application of filters, and the use of image reconstruction techniques. As a result of the experiments, it was shown that the proposed model using deep learning methods significantly improves the accuracy of object recognition in noisy images. Compared to single-tasking models, the multi-tasking model showed the superiority of this approach in performing multiple tasks simultaneously and saving training time. This study confirms the effectiveness of using multitasking models using deep learning for object recognition in noisy images. The results obtained can be applied in various fields, including computer vision, robotics, automatic driving, and others, where accurate object recognition in noisy images is a critical component.

The existing work presented online tracking algorithm to transfers visual prior learned offline for online object tracking. To learn complete dictionary to represent visual prior with collection of real world images. Prior knowledge of objects is generic and training image set does not contain any observation of target object. Transfer learned visual prior to construct object representation using Sparse coding and Multiscale max pooling. Linear classifier is learned online to distinguish target from background and also to identify target and background appearance variations over time. Tracking is carried out within Bayesian inference framework and learned classifier is used to construct observation model. Particle filter is used to estimate the tracking result sequentially however, unable to work efficiently in noisy scenes. Time sift variance were not appropriated to track target object with observer value to prior information of object structure. Proposal HMM based kalman filter to improve online target tracking in noisy sequential image frames. The covariance vector is measured to identify noisy scenes. Discrete time steps are evaluated for identifying target object with background separation. Experiment conducted on challenging sequences of scene. Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Deep Neural Network
Self-Learning the online course: Neural Networks for Machine Learning, Instructed by Geoffrey
Hinton. (https://www.coursera.org/course/neuralnets)
Detect Obscene Content in of Online Videos
Develop an algorithm to detect obscene content in large multimedia image
dataset extracted from on-line video chatting services, Chatroulette. (code in
C++, OpenCV, & Matlab). The algorithm classifies users based on multiple
features, such as facial features, motion, and skin. We further investigate other
generic feature (i.e., SIFT features, HOG, etc.) in obscene content detection.
Evaluate Skin Conditions by Head Photos
Given facial photos, develop a procedure to automatically estimate the facial
skin condition quantitatively. The core part is an algorithm integrates Active
Appearance Model and feature points registering. (code in C++ & Matlab)
Geographical Feature Detection in Satellite Images
Develop an algorithm to automatically detect geographic features (i.e., lakes)
above Greenland ice sheet in a massive set of satellite images (i.e., *.hdf files for
10 years). The algorithm achieves high accuracy (0.99 recall and 0.963
precision) to robustly detect lakes in both cloudy and cloud-free images (code in
Matlab)
2. Head Pose Estimation
Apply two methods to estimate head pose in images: (1) Extracting pixel
gradient feature and classified it by Support Vector Machine (2) Extracted a
pixel comparison feature and classified it by AdaBoost algorithm. (code in C++,
OpenCV & Matlab).
Color Texture Segmentation
Achieve color-texture segmentation in 3 steps: (1) Segment color by Mean-Shift (2) Segment texture
by Steerable Filter pyramid ( http://www.cns.nyu.edu/~lcv/texture/), and (3) Integrate both results into
final segmentation map (code in Matlab).
Data Analysis,
Machine
Learning
(Winter 2008 -
Present)
High Dimensional Data Index (Locality Sensitive Hashing)
Study and try some variance of Locality Sensitive Hashing that based on p-stable distribution (Datar et
al., 2004) by modifying the code from “LSHKIT” (http://lshkit.sourceforge.net/).
High Dimensional Data Analysis
In a course project, extracting movie preference information (Netflix challenge) from a large and high-
dimension data set (i.e., a sparse matrix with dimension: 2649429 x 17770) in three steps: (1) Embed
high-dimensional input data into a lower dimension format (by Laplacian Eigenmap or Random
Projection), (2) Find meaningful user clusters (by K-means or Mix of Gaussian), and (3) Use those
information to predict score of query movie. (coded in Matlab)
Analyze data by WEKA
With given data, using WEKA (http://www.cs.waikato.ac.nz/ml/weka/) to build an optimal model by
investigating several machine learning methods (i.e., Random Forest, AdaBoost, Linear Regression,
Ridge Regression, and Support Vector Machine).
Biological
System modeling
(Apr. 2004 –
Sep. 2005)
Neuronal System Modeling
Investigate the response of a Pyramidal Neuron under electrical stimulation and
the artificial neurotransmitters by building a mathematical model (i.e., HH
model) to simulate Dopaminergic Neuron signal pattern. This model
successfully replicated the in vivo experimental results. (code in Matlab and
NEURON simulation program)
