WORK HISTORY
TALLEY’S NELSON:
Coolstore Manager: (Feb 2013 to Feb 2015) The task was to assist in restoring the operation to its former status, build
a new team, implement a new inventory Barcoding system in unison with the 5 Factory Vessels. During the
commissioning of the Barcoding system we have implemented a new Yard layout in order to gain operating space
produce better flow, which has been achieved. A redesign of the Store floor was initiated to plan for improved
locations, resulting in better FIFO, less damage, better access and obtained a higher level of stock volume in terms of
pallet spaces. This also improves traceability, accuracy of container loading, presentation and quality to customers as
well as improved times of loading with respect that each carton is no longer labeled at both ends and there has been an
increase of 70% Customer Labels requiring hand application at loading. The final projects of improved discharge
Speeds, Improved Palletisation are about to be realized to reduce damage and utilize better capacities while retaining
the integrity of locating stock at a moments notice. Unfortunately there is at least another year of development
required to achieve the goals of effective and efficient Storage and distribution. Succession planning has not yet been
achieved, nor have all the procedures been affirmed as the Inventory System is being developed and tailored to the
business as opposed to an off the shelf model that requires the business to alter in order to suit the software.
KORU A SEAFOOD AFFAIRE CAFE:
Restaurant Owner: (Aug 2012 to Mar 2013)
A Seafood Restaurant in Picton. This started very well with favourable reviews for good service, quality food and a
growing following of clientele. The decision to accept the offer from Talley’s Nelson was seen as an opportunity to
secure a winter income while developing an already experienced Chef. However the Chef had 3 weeks off over a 2
months period as well as generating poor reviews proving to be damaging to reputation, where we felt the only option
was to shut shop as it would be too difficult to re-attract business from partnering Motels as it would not be suitable
for their business to recommend our new Chef. Better to cut the losses while they were affordable.
NELSON RANGER FISHING COMPANY:
Production Manager: (From Jan 2012 to Jul 2012)
I was selected for this role to create improvement to the current levels throughout the balance of the plant, I resigned
as the company would not adopt a lean approach, nor alter the cooking process to maximize yields and allow better
time at sea to create better growth of the Mussels, we were process prematurely as there issues that caused issues prior
to my arrival. Unfortunately the business could not recover from previous poor management financially where it
closed the doors and sold on to the Talley’s Group Ltd. Was not successful in persuading the Director/Owner to alter
poor practices and focus on changes of improvement, improved yield. Therefore I resigned on the basis that I was
being paid a very good salary without being able to properly earn or justify the amount I was receiving.
