When working with clients, there are many factors at play that not only formed the client in their early years, but also influence them now. The factors that influence them now can include: family, living situation, job situation, friends, religious community, etc. These factors can all influence how a social worker can assist in intervening in a client’s life. Each of these factors can also be included in different systems that influence the client (Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman, 2016).
Let us take, for example, the case of Lester. Lester was an independent member in his community, church community, and was able to handle his life all by himself. However, after an automobile accident, Lester has done a 180 and can no longer clothe or clean himself (Plummer, Makris, and Brocksen, 2014). This is where systems perspective comes in: what systems in Lester’s life can the social worker use to assist Lester? From the case study, we know that Lester is close with his family, but his sister-in-law has really stepped up to the plate in helping with Lester’s care. Because of Lester’s connections with his religious community, they may be relied on for resources. Lester’s children have not been involved really at all, so they should not be counted on as a system on which Lester can rely (Plummer, Makris, and Brocksen, 2014). Lester will have to have new systems created for him, as he cannot create them for himself anymore.
As a social worker, it is crucial to know the systems on which a client can rely. System Theory is a good theory because of its ability to be used with any client. Knowing what resources are available to a client, as well as their interactions with those resources, is key in creating a treatment plan for the client.

Working With Survivors of Sexual Abuse and Trauma: The Case of Rita
Rita is a 22-year-old, heterosexual, Latina female working in the hospitality industry at a resort. She is the youngest of five children and lives at home with her parents. Rita has dated in the past but never developed a serious relationship. She is close to her immediate and extended family as well as to her female friends in the Latino community. Although her parents and three of her siblings were born in the Dominican Republic, Rita was born in the United States.
A year ago, Rita was sexually assaulted by an acquaintance of a male coworker. Rita and a female coworker met Juan and Bob after work at a local bar for a light meal and a few drinks. Because Rita had to get up early to work her shift the next day, Bob offered to drive her home. Instead of taking Rita directly home, however, he drove to a desolate spot nearby and assaulted her. Afterward, Bob threatened to harm her family if she did not remain silent and proceeded to drive her home. Although Rita did not tell her family what happened, she did call our agency hotline the next day to discuss her options. Because Rita’s assault occurred within the 5-day window for forensic evidence collection of this kind, Rita consented to activation of the county’s sexual assault response team (SART). Although she agreed to have an advocate and the sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) meet her at the hospital, Rita tearfully stated that she did not want to file a police report at that time ...

A social worker needs training and expertise in a wide range of areas to effectively handle problems faced by individuals, groups, families, organizations, and the larger community. Psychological development and theories emphasize individuals' functioning and cognitive or thought processes. Psychological aspects concern how people think about themselves, others, and the environment around them (Zastrow, 2016). Multiple systems impact individuals’ life every day. When working with clients there are many parts of their life that can have an impact on their care. Examples could be religion, sexual preferences, and the people who are closest to them. A client’s environment will help define their needs and ways to help them reach a goal. Understanding that it will take many different tools to help is a key component to using multiple theories.
In the systems perspective, once one has identified the system as a separate part of the universe, one is not allowed to progressively decompose the system into isolated parts. Instead, one is obligated to describe the system as a whole (NECSI, 2011). Being Lester Johnson’s social worker I would apply the systems perspective by helping the family locate the available options for his care after he is released from care. For example numbers for home care agencies and full care facilities. ...

Legal and ethical considerations
Ethics form an important part of our daily activities since they form certain thresholds that must be adhered to create a better environment for individuals who are interacting. Ethics, therefore, focus on moral concerns that are involved in a certain situation and thus dictates how activities are supposed to undertake to ensure that everyone is considered within the set moral and ethical standards. Counseling is a serious engagement, which requires significant consideration of ethical principles to guide the relationship between and counselor and the clients. There are some ethical issues, which arise in different situations during the counselling process. How these ethical challenges are handled is very important since it helps in outlining the professional level within the counselling profession. Ethical issues are moral obligations that bind a given organization to a certain code of ethics. Having ethical issues to guide an organization presents the best chance of working in harmony between the business and all the stakeholders involved. Ethical issues differ depending on daily mortality. All the ethical issues revolve around how individuals or business organizations are responsible for protecting the rights and needs of other parties who have an interest in their products and services (Pozgar, 2014). Comment by Dr. Jones: APA papers should all be flush left, not “justified” alignment, be sure to fix all papers.
Legal and ethical considerations
The treatment of violent, nonviolent and trauma victims has to be within the legal constraints where the process conforms to certain ethical considerations, which are put in place to ensure that the treatment process of each falls within the recommended threshold by psychological associations. The treatment process among psychologists and counselors is clearly stipulated in various psychological associations, which regulate the performance and the level of engagement between counselors and psychologists with their respective clients. Therefore, there are some ethical issues that are very important since they dictate the general engagement and how the whole process spurns out (Gunn and Taylor, 2014).
Confidentiality
In both cases, confidentiality is paramount and is key to having any successful treatment plan. For an effective treatment plan, there is significant which is shared regarding the condition of the client. In this case, the counselor or psychologist who is engaged needs to ensure that any information relating to the case at hand is highly engaged to ensure that the process remains ethical (Tribe and Morrissey, 2015).

Substance abuse is perceived in a variety of ways by different entities. The court system may view substance abuse as a criminal activity. The medical and social work fields may view it as evidence of a disease or disorder. Uninformed individuals may view substance abuse as a personal choice or weakness. Decisions about how to address and respond to this social problem influence the development of effective policies.

The NASW Code of Ethics provides social workers with guidelines and standards for interacting with clients, colleagues, communities, and society, as a whole. These standards govern interactions and professional behavior of social work practitioners. The NASW has also developed specific standards, which are published in the NASW Standards for Social Work Practice With Clients With Substance Use Disorders. These standards emphasize the importance of the competence of social workers. The standards indicate that social workers should be knowledgeable of evidence-based interventions for substance disorders. Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman (2016) stated, "Clients are affected by and in constant dynamic interactions with other systems, including families, groups, organizations, and communities" (p. 35-36). As a social worker, when you address the needs of an individual client, you also take into account the systems with which the client interacts. Obtaining information about these systems helps you better assess your client's situation. These systems may provide support to the client, or they may contribute to the client's presenting problem.
For this Discussion, review "Working With People With Disabilities: The Case of Lester."Consider the systems with which Lester Johnson, the client, interacts. Think about ways you might apply a systems perspective to his case. Also, consider the significance of the systems perspective for social work in general.
Assignment:
Post a Discussion in which you:
· explain how multiple systems interact to impact individuals.
· Explain how you, as a social worker, might apply a systems perspective to your work with Lester Johnson.
· Finally, explain how you might apply a systems perspective to social work practice.

The many different forensic settings such as prisons, jails, out.docxcdorothy
The many different forensic settings such as prisons, jails, outpatient settings, community centers, residential treatment facilities, and specialized treatment centers provide many opportunities for working with forensic populations. Even within these settings, there are specific and differing programs that operate. For instance, a prison might operate an outpatient drug treatment program, a residential drug treatment program, and a sex offender program all in the same facility. In the outpatient setting, a helping professional might be called on to conduct sessions with anger management groups, domestic violence groups, substance abuse groups, and sex offenders after release.
As a forensic treatment professional, assessing and understanding various forensic settings before entering them is critical in developing your professional practice. One way of doing this is to consider the various settings, and compare them based on external resources for forensic populations. For example, how do the available resources compare between a maximum security juvenile correctional facility and a residential juvenile treatment facility? The distinction between these forensic settings and the available resources for each can help you better understand the potential challenges and opportunities in your professional practice.
To prepare for this Assignment:
· Select two forensic settings in your community to compare in this assignment.
· Consider the social support, available resources, and access to treatment for each forensic setting
The Assignment (1–2 pages):
· Identify the two forensic settings you selected from your community.
· Compare (similarities and differences) the settings in terms of social support, available resources, and access to treatment.
· Explain at least one conclusion you drew or insight you gained as a result of your comparison related to your role as a current/future helping professional.

Other professionals, however, see the benefits of working with challenging forensic populations. Using one of the direct quotes and/or photos from Knight et al.’s study, analyze it by drawing up a tentative meaning.
The quote I selected to analyze for this discussion post is:
“[The homeless shelter administrator] told me I would find a place [through a subsidized program] if I work with them. And they did find me a lot of places, but I didn’t want to go, because [those] SROs they have now are really nasty. Really tore up, tore down. Syringes in the bathroom. Blood on the toilet. Because you use the same toilet that everybody else uses. So it wasn’t sanitized. So I didn’t want to go. And I found the Martin Hotel and I went in and it was a really clean, nice place. So I went back to [the shelter] and I asked them ‘Can you please get me a place inside that hotel?’ They said that would be cool, they would work on it. And within two, three weeks I had a place at the Martin.” (Knight, Lopez, Comfort, Shumway, Cohen, & Riley, 2014).
This quote reflects a woman who expressed her need and desire to have an SRO that met her mental health needs. Rather than accepting the first available room, she chose to work with the shelter administrator to find a more suitable place. This quote depicts the impact that an SRO can have on a woman’s mental health and how the environment can exacerbate their physical and emotional health.
Discuss how this would specifically inform one intervention recommendation you would make for social work practice with the homeless. This recommendation can be on the micro, meso.

· Proper English with no run-on sentences is an absolute requirement!
The paper must contain at least 2 references and citations. Use the following resources for the references and citations. At a minimum, be sure to reference Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman and Plummer.

Working with Clients with Disabilities: The Case of Lester
Lester is a 59-year-old, African American widower with two adult children. He lives in a medium-sized Midwestern city. Four months ago, he was a driver in a multiple vehicle crash while visiting his daughter in another city and was injured in the accident, although he was not a.
Support your Assignment with specific references to all resources used in its preparation. You are asked to provide a reference list only for those resources not included in the resources for this course.

Week 1: Introduction
Welcome to the first week of
Treatment of Forensic Populations
.
Helping professionals may work years in their professional settings and never think about treating forensic populations such as sex offenders, drug abusers and offenders, or violent offenders. In fact, some helping professionals shy away from such populations, choosing to believe that these people are best helped by remaining "locked up" or left to the resources of a prison treatment setting. Other professionals, however, see the benefits of working with challenging forensic populations. Not just for the person receiving services but also for the greater social good that can come from offering services to forensic populations. As a helping professional, understanding various forensic settings, crimes, and treatm.

Classmate (C. Rod)
"Sex is virtually all in the head anyway" (Cloud, 2010). This quote is how chapter six is started, and I find it very suiting for this week's discussion topic. A sex offender definition is someone who has been convicted of a sex crime involving a minor. This offense is severe, and when sentencing at a state or federal level, multiple factors are considered (Sex Offenders and Sex Offenses: Overview 2019). I have heard many people comment that pedophiles should be executed right after the trial, that sexually abusing a child is the unforgivable crime and that a person who commits such a crime has a mind that can not be healed. During Pre-Prac 1, Dr. Gess had stated that whatever population you do not want to work with, that is what you will get. She had shared that her population was pedophiles, and that was her first client. Dr. Gess continued that she ended up discovering that he was abused as a child and did not receive any counseling. He kept the vicious cycle alive, but that she ended up developing a strong rapport with him and learned a lot. Study after study has shown that when an individual experiences childhood trauma, it increases the risk for health and social problems and that it is a common experience for sexual offenders (Levenson, Willis & Prescott, n.d). An early survey found that 63% of incarcerated sex offenders .
Discussion 1 Conflict Theories in Social Work Practice with Specifi.docxowenhall46084
Discussion 1: Conflict Theories in Social Work Practice with Specific Populations
Why does conflict exist? What if conflict and instability were life’s normal state of affairs, occasionally interrupted by periods of peace and stability? What if peace is contrary to the nature of man? According to conflict theory, society is in a state of perpetual conflict and competition for limited resources. In fact, this perspective might explain the existence of war, poverty, political strife, divorce, discrimination, and a host of other conflict-related social phenomena. If conflict theorists are right, are social workers fighting a war that cannot be won? The social worker’s mission is not to foster a utopia where all conflict ceases to exist. Rather, social workers help clients overcome the conflicts they face and reduce or eliminate the harm they experience, in order to improve their lives. How can the understanding of conflict’s origins and why it exists prepare social workers to help their clients effectively manage the conflict in their lives?
For this Discussion
, review this week’s resources. Select either the Roy case study or the Matt and Keith case study. Then, select a conflict theory that best applies to the specific case you selected. Finally, consider what social work skills you might use to apply that theory and think about why it is appropriate for that case.
·
Post
a description of the conflict theory that best applies to the case study you selected.
·
Be sure to reference the client from the specific case study you selected in your post.
·
Then explain what social work skills you might use to apply that theory and explain why it is appropriate for the case you selected.
Working With Individuals: The Case of Roy
Roy is a 34-year-old, divorced, Caucasian male. He has been divorced for 1 year and has three children, Jordon (7), Jared (6), and Jane (3). Roy met his ex-wife, Melissa, when she was 17 and he was 25, and soon afterward she became pregnant with their first child. As part of the divorce agreement, they were given joint custody, and Melissa was granted physical custody.
Roy had been working at a hog confinement farm for the prior 2 months. Previously, he had been a highway patrolman for 10 years. Roy was terminated from the force, and charges were filed against him, after he drove his patrol car into Melissa’s home. He was ordered to pay for the damages to the house and the patrol car and enroll in a batterer’s intervention program (BIP). Melissa was granted a permanent order of protection against him, and the court ordered that Roy’s visits with his children be supervised.
I met Roy during our intake and assessment meeting prior to beginning the BIP. As one of the co-facilitators, I met individually with many of the group members prior to our first group meeting to learn more about why they were referred to the BIP and to orient them to the group’s goals and objectives. Roy arrived at the intake and assessment sessi.
Discussion 1Ideological Perspectives of Population-Specific Poli.docxtheresiarede
Discussion 1
Ideological Perspectives of Population-Specific Policy Social workers often are very aware of and informed about the needs of the specific populations with which they work. As a result, it is important that social workers get involved in the policy-creation process by sharing their experiences and perspectives with others, including policymakers. For this Discussion, select a population of particular interest to you. Then, select three to five policies (including two to three state-level and two to three federal-level policies) related to that population. Finally, subscribe to a variety of blog alerts concerning the population and the policies you selected. Note that you will be discussing about these policies throughout the course. You will also critically review the published opinions of bloggers outside of this course, who write about the policies you identified. Post by Day 4 a brief description of the population you selected. Then, provide a description of three to five policies (including two to three state-level and two to three federal-level policies) related to that population. Finally, explain the relationship between the policies and the population you selected.
Discussion 2
Discussion: The Impact of Social Policy Social policies can have a significant impact on individuals and families, as well as the organizations and agencies that implement the policies. In some cases, the policy, as written, appears comprehensive and effective. Yet, despite appearances, the policy might fail to be effective as a result of improper implementation, interpretation, and/or application of the policy. As a social worker, how might you reduce the potential negative impact faulty social policies might have on organizations and agencies, as well as the populations you serve? For this Discussion, review this week’s resources, including cases “Working with Immigrants and Refugees: The Case of Luisa” and “Social Work Policy: Benefit Administration and Provision.” Then, select either of the cases and consider how the social welfare policies presented in the case influenced the problems facing Luisa or Tessa. Finally, think about how policies affect social agencies and how social workers work with clients such as Tessa or Luisa.
Discussion 3
Discussion: Gender Stereotypes, Sexism, and Sexual Violence Gender stereotypes influence and perpetuate what is known as patriarchy. Patriarchy is a concept that considers men the holders of power and authority resulting in domination of all sectors throughout society. Men have held the most powerful positions in the world and have guided our laws, policies, and culture. Patriarchy not only impacts society on a global scale through structural oppression but also our daily lives. It influences individual relationships and the daily interactions amongst husbands and wives, boyfriends and girlfriends, and colleagues. Feminist theory posits that men use violence in attempt to maintain this power a ...

Policy Review

Issue Statement
When people are released from prison, they face an environment that is difficult to navigate, designed to keep them from becoming useful members of their communities. Most ex-offenders are arrested again within three years of their release, with a majority of 77 percent of instances occurring within five years. As the nation's prison population approaches 2 million inmates, recidivism is becoming an issue for both convicts' families and society (Bhandari, 2019). This explains why social reintegration is one of the biggest social problems in the United States. Re-incarceration and unsuccessful re-entry have a devastating impact on communities, families, and individuals. Ex-offenders and those recently released from prison are the most vulnerable populations to this social problem. It is vital to have a thorough grasp of the science of offender reintegration since efficient reintegration of offenders is crucial to crime reduction.
The need for change
After being released from prison, offenders are pushed into a new environment that is very different from their previous one, and many struggle to adapt. Aside from that, due to the dynamic and the always-changing environment, ex-offenders who have spent considerable time in prison are liberated into an environment vastly different from their prior surroundings. This is a serious impediment to criminals' reintegration back into society. Furthermore, re-entry into the workforce is a significant challenge to overcome for persons who have served time in jail. Previously imprisoned individuals have difficulties getting and maintaining employment after being released from prison due to employers' apprehension about hiring people with criminal histories (Weber, 2021). Many offenders have no formal education or work experience, making it strenuous to obtain gainful employment. According to studies, about 60% of criminals and ex-offenders are high school dropouts.
In the aftermath of their imprisonment and engagement with the criminal justice system, many ex-inmates are perceived unproductive and risky by former employers and members of their old professional networks, assuming they ever had one. When ex-convicts combine a restricted professional network with a glaring gap in their resume, it may be very difficult for them to get an interview with a potential employer. An estimated 70 percent of previously jailed males have a history of drug misuse, and a large number of them suffer from physical and mental health problems (Petrich et al., 2022). As a result, employers may not consider them "work-ready," so restricting their employability. The prospect of being sued for damages resulting from "negligent hiring" is a source of anxiety for many firms. Given the possibility that a firm could be held responsible for exposing the employees to a potentially harmful individual, many companies are wary of hiring someone who has a criminal ...

Colleague 1: Brooke
As future social workers, we are in a unique position to guide our potential clients to their most desireable outcomes, regardless of whether or not we are in agreement. When we enter into this field, we do so with the understanding that our clients’ beliefs and resulting goals are to be maintained with utmost priority. It would be a violation of our code of conduct to not conduct client-professional interactions in this manner, and therefore, remaining unbiased when providing counseling and implementing intervention is an integral part of this profession (Code of Ethics of the NASW, 2008).
This will become particularly challenging, however, when a client’s spiritual beliefs do not align, or even negate, those of the professional charged with their guidance. In order to be prepared for these interactions, developing a cultural competence of the client is vital to successful interactions (Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman, 2016). Although this competence is achieved over time, research can be conducted even before meeting with the client to understand the beliefs and values that define their religion. In the Muslim religion, for example, it is not acceptable for a man to touch a woman, other than his wife. Knowing this information prior to an initial meeting, the female professional would understand how to properly greet her client, which will most definitely not include a handshake. Secondly, views regarding abortion are affiliated with specific religions. Catholics, for example, take a pro life stance on this controversial topic. This religion strongly asserts than any unborn fetus is a human being and therefore, abortion can be viewed as murderous. While not every Catholic may hold this unwavering belief, understanding this is a belief held by many practicing Catholics may guide initial interactions with a client carrying an unplanned pregnancy.
As a practicing Roman Catholic, my interactions with future clients may also be affected. While I understand the religion’s position on abortion, I do not necessarily hold the same emphatic views. This understanding, yet my openness to consider specific circumstances, may help a client whose religion is an impacting factor in a life choice she has to make. The Catholic religion also denounces adultery, regardless of the circumstances. I can safely say I, too, do not believe adultery is acceptable. However, as in any situation, .

There are five good ways to deal with this type of person. (Links to an external site.)
1. First empathize, try understanding what they are going through. Try to find out what's causing them to act that way.
2. Talk to them but don't try to help, give them a chance to blow off some steam. Listen and try to understand his or her frustrations, but never get involved it them.
3. Find out what makes them happy, talk about the things that makes them smile. Maybe it's a child or a spouse, a hobby or sports that gives them joy and remind them of that.
4. Listen to what they are not saying, pay attention to how they really feel, things they say between the lines. You can hear it the dark humor they may use to deal with their hurt.
5. Have fun, sometimes a good laugh is all that is needed to change a bad attitude. Just allowing a little fun may change a negative into a positive behavior.

There are many ways to deal with a rude customer that has a nasty attitude with one of your workers as a manager. The three effective ways that come to my mind when dealing with a rude customer is being caring, actively listening, and staying calm no matter the situation. In my opinion, the easiest way to calm an angry customer is being empathetic; show them that you care. Know the reason why they are mad makes this skill easier. Listening and doing it actively can play a big role when it comes to diffusing an angry customer. If you are listening to the words of the angry customer, you can easily figure out how to fix the problem. Joe is a 34-year-old male, active in a dual-diagnosis treatment program. He has been putting forth effort to turn his life around following his release from jail for possession with intent to distribute (Plummer, 2014). Several barriers are arising for Joe in his efforts to start a new life that are related to his previous challenges. For example, he is struggling to find employment as a result of his criminal record, there are also barriers with receiving Medicaid benefits with his substance distribution history that are based on state policies (Plummer, 2014). With all of the different barriers that Joe is facing, he is becoming more and more hopeless and his “best chances” according to local services require him to leave the county which will separate him from the few supports he has (Plummer, 2014).
According to Popple & Leighninger (2019), there are several agencies that have a “zero tolerance policy” when it comes to drug usage. Although this can make sense in certain circumstances, I believe that the policy actually has the ability to cause more harm than good. There is significant research done through Dartmouth University that shows us that competitive employment actually has the ability to do more for an individual’s mental health and substance dependence that medication or counseling (Noel, 2019). Through this research Dartmouth developed the IPS (Individualized placement and support) model, which is a high-fidelity model of practice that supported employment abides by. Making it more challenging for individuals to get work is more likely to trigger a relapse due to feelings of hopelessness and/or inadequacy.
Unfortunately, current policies make it extremely difficult for individuals with criminal histories to get good competitive employment. Joe is falling victim to these policies in a way that are making it very hard for him to be successful because of choices he made in his past. He is struggling to find work, based on policies put in place that disqualify him from most employment opportunities based on a criminal background. He is also found ineligible for General benefits from the County Division of Social Services because of his specific charges (Plummer, 2014).
I believe that one development that could be made to improve these policies would be the creation of an exception or an appeal process. These policies do exist for a reason, and ...

Introduction The law enforcement and criminal justice system of the United States embraces community corrections. It is because it helps incarcerated individu-
als get back to the community. The main objective of creating these community corrections is to act as an alternative to imprisonment to those individuals that are in
jail but has shown positive behaviors and have reformed. As this approach occurs mainly outside the prison setting, the authorities enforce strict measures that
restrict the ex-convicts from reoffending and oversee the correctional process. More so, the departments of probation, do supervisions and follow-ups to address the
need of the undergoing community program. Usually, court systems make decisions and also enforces sanctions on the report written by parole officers on if the of-
fenders should be allowed to return to the community. An offender will have completed the process successfully if they show signs of mental stability and
changes in behaviors. This paper will review and analyze the case of Robert, who was incarcerated for drug abuse and armed robbery, describing why commu-
nity correctional assessment is important for him. Additionally, we will determine the needs of this person and describe the evidence-based practices that will enable
him to re-enter society. “Analyzing the case of Robert” Robert was convicted of drug abuse and armed robbery, and he is about to complete his term in jail.
He is twenty-five years old, and he has a criminal history and various past arrests associated with drug possession and robbery. For him being arrested four times and
incarcerated five times, it is hard to know if he would get back into society successfully as a fully r ...

Best Practices in Community Correctional
Best Practices in Community Correctional
Ingrid Hernandez
University of Phoenix
October 17, 2021

Strategic Issues
After the needs assessment has been completed, the next element of the strategic plan involves developing the strategic issues. Key tasks associated with the strategic issues include conducting a gap analysis, performing an environmental scan, and developing stakeholder surveys. The actions are performed so that you can conduct a SWOT analysis. SWOT stands for STRENGTHS, WEAKNESSES, OPPORUNITIES, and THREATS. A SWOT analysis is used to help an agency, organization, or community better understand the business and environment in which it operates. The goal of developing strategic issues is to list or map out all of the strengths and weaknesses, and then to do the same for all of the opportunities and threats. This helps the organization to identify a strategy for planning. Opportunities that match the strengths are things that should be pursued. Threats that particularly align with weaknesses should be especially avoided when developing a strategic plan.
For this Assignment, you complete a SWOT analysis for Natasha House, Inc.
To prepare:
Review Final Project: Developing a Strategic Plan –S.W.O.T Analysis media in the Weekly Resources.
Consider the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges related to Natasha House, Inc.
Think about the environmental factors you might review in preparation for addressing the strategic issues component for Natasha House, Inc. The environmental factors may include: political, economic, demographic, regulatory, philanthropic, donor trends, and other organizations providing similar services.
The Assignment (4–6 pages):
Conduct a SWOT analysis. This analysis focuses on assessing the present state or condition of Natasha House, Inc.and determining where the organization would like to be. The difference between the two represents the gap, or the difference between where Natasha House, Inc. is currently and where Natasha House, Inc.would like to be. This gap could provide direction for the major focus of the strategic plan.
Describe plans for conducting an environmental scan. The environmental scan is a process in which stakeholders gather and interpret relevant data on an agency, organization, or community to identify external opportunities and threats.
Identify and describe internal conditions that might impact the implementation of the strategic plan.
Address how you would minimize the impact of those conditions.
Identify and describe external conditions or competitors that might impact the implementation of the strategic plan.
Address how you would minimize the impact of those conditions.
Consider how you might plan to work with competitors to meet the needs of your targeted agency, organization, or community.
Identify and describe at least three strengths of Natasha House, Inc..
State why each item on the list is a strength.
State how you plan to utilize each strength to positively the impact the development or imp ...
Leadership and Ethics within Mandatory Minimum Prison Sentenci.docxcroysierkathey
Leadership and Ethics within Mandatory Minimum Prison Sentencing 1
Ethical behavior is critical when it comes to how society portrays one in terms of
moral principles and ethics in a given situation. In general, ethical conduct is the practice of
doing the right things by observing and adhering to professional standards. In most countries,
the prison populations are on the rising end as most governments try to avoid the pressure in
budgeting for the jails. The United States employs a sentencing structure whereby
individuals are required to cover 85% of their sentences given by the federal court (Bedau
2014). This paper focuses on how ethical behaviors can impact mandatory minimum prison
sentencing standards.
Ethical concerns to be addressed
The laws of mandatory minimum sentencing are the law that allows handing the
minimum prison sentence for crimes such as possession of drugs. These laws are fixed and
made by Congress, as judges cannot tamper with the laws (Oliss 2014). Critics have come
out to say these laws are oppressive and do not apply in the present-day environment.
One of the ethical concerns of the mandatory minimum sentencing laws needing to be
addressed is the unfairness in passing out judgment. In a particular scenario whereby the
judge does not have the capacity to amend the law during the trial, someone who was neither
directly involved in drug conspiracy, nor a significant concern in the case, will end up
suffering the same sentence that is passed onto the main suspect. This makes it difficult for
the individual, who is rarely involved in being heard, in a different scenario as the law tends
to punish them both harshly. The main disparity is this law tends to focus more on drug lords
and the fight against crime as compared to other offenses that are committed (Martin 2017).
The second ethical concern is these laws do not allow room for plea bargains. Since
Congress makes the law, it is hard for the prosecutor who might have wanted to lower the
sentence for a plea. The capacity they are in does not allow them to do so, thus making it
hard for the person who was “less guilty” to serve a fewer number of years in prison as the
Leadership and Ethics within Mandatory Minimum Prison Sentencing 2
law forces the whole lot involved in the same act to serve the same amount of years. Critics
feel this law has less of an impact and deem them as an inappropriate way of ruling as they
lead to an increase in prisons, thus making it hard to share the limited available resources.
Impact of organizational structure on organizational ethics
The structure of any organization is fundamental as it determines the roles to be
executed by individuals in the work environment. According to (James 2016), organizational
structures often define roles of each individual from the top management to the subordinates,
therefore, having an impact on ethics. More of ...

TAMMY’S POST:
The differences between mandatory, aspirational, principle and virtue ethics are paramount to ethical practice. The comprehension and implementation of the spheres of each allow for adhesion to policy and a sense of professionalism.
"General Principles, as opposed to Ethical Standards, are aspirational in nature. Their intent is to guide and inspire psychologists toward the very highest ethical ideals of the profession. General Principles, in contrast to Ethical Standards, do not represent obligations and should not form the basis for imposing sanctions. Relying upon General Principles for either of these reasons distorts both their meaning and purpose". (American Psychological Association, 2017)
The literature and the doctrine parameters cause uncertainty due to the conflictual environment and obligations. Questions of conflict about perceptual tension, as an example in
Professional ethics in interdisciplinary collaboratives: Zeal, paternalism, and mandated reporting
(2006) are between an attorney's zeal or client autonomy within the judicial system relationships in contrast to the Social Services scope of interests of humanity and social justice. Since the adaption of roles and environments tend to adjust, concern if responsibility sways in the contention of the differences. Social services render a larger and more diverse "moral community" and their sustainability stemming from virtue. The judicial system attends to the political policy and rules governing lawful adherence versus deviance. Another spectrum is mandatory reporting obligations which are said to be more profound when ethics pursue and in the collaboration still clash. An issue is an act of ethics versus the 'command' according to an agency (Anderson, Barenberg, & Tremblay, 2006. p. 663).
The differences between principle ethics and virtue ethics
The general principles of the APA are considered aspirational. Simultaneously, therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists, and similar social services are mandated in the ethical codes of conduct to act in the betterment and safety of others, especially those deemed incompetent or incapacitated to do so.
The difference between principle ethics and virtue ethics splits by social normative and subjectivity. Social normative are more definite by culture but still universal and often mandatory. For instance, law-abiding and humane acts from avoiding reckless driving, speeding, or operating under the influence of obligatory care of the elderly, a child, or the disability are mandatory. Virtue ethics are less objective and more diverse to demographics and ethnography. Like integrity, it is a matter of right and wrong based on habits, behaviors rooted in one's upbringing. For example, seeing someone drop money instead of keeping it is returned to the person seen dropping it. Another.
DISCUSSION 1Some mandatory sentencing laws, called three-strikes.docxduketjoy27252
DISCUSSION 1
Some mandatory sentencing laws, called three-strikes laws, were created in the 1990s as citizens and lawmakers became fed up withviolent crime. Intended to be used to lock up repeat violent offenders for life, the laws were not widely implemented in all states, and only California has used its threestrikes law widely.
YOUR ASSIGNMENT IS TO:
Search for "California three-strikes law" on the Internet and read about its benefits as well as costs.
Focus on what type of offenders have been most affected, the law's impact on crime, its financial impact, and whether it has been applied in a racially biased way.
Then, argue one way or the other, whether the law is good or bad. Explain.
THIS ASSIGNMENT ABOVE HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE. THE NEXT ASSIGNMENT YOU NEED TO DO IS:
PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON TWO CLASSMATES POSTS. THE LENGTH MUST BE 200 WORDS EACH POST. THERE ARE TWO FEEDBACKS YOU MUST DO. MUST BE POSITIVE FEEDBACK, PROPER GRAMMAR/SENTENCE STRUCTURE, AND ANY OUTSIDE SOURCES YOU USE THAT RELATES TO THE FEEDBACK FROM THE STUDENT MUST BE PROPERLY CITED/SCHOLARY SOURCE.
Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts.PLEASE ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS BELOW IN THE FEEDBACK YOU PROVIDE TO EACH STUDENT.
In your responses to their posts, address the following:
Is there a crime prevention program in the policing or corrections areas that would complement the initiative addressed by your classmates?
What concept or theory would support your position?
Will the initiative positively or negatively impact social justice for all groups or just targeted segments of society?
FIRST DISCUSSION RESPONSE FROM CHRISTOPHER E.
Drug Courts
The activity I chose was drug courts. I chose this activity because drugs seem to be a main gateway into criminal activity and individuals becoming offenders and ending up in the criminal justice system. Drug courts are a system that treats drug addicted and mentally ill individuals for their addiction without putting them into the traditional criminal justice system. The drug courts program offer the offender counseling, mental health services as well as job placement programs and vocational training (Robinson, 2013). Like a spoke of drug abuse is the gateway that leads to addiction and this only leads to crimes like robberies, theft or other crimes to support these habits. Some of these crimes are petty crimes and the crime and the cause has to be taken into consideration, so that’s why drug courts are so important. Treating a petty criminal who is drug addicted in the drug courts alleviates the offender going to prison which are already overcrowded and this only costs the government or state more funds to incarcerate this individual. The key is keeping the individual in the program long enough for it to work.
The reward system for the individual for doing well and sanctions for not conforming to the treatment are innovative ways to energize the individual to take the treatment serious. The fact that usually after the.

·
Post

One animal organism that I found interesting was the species of multicellular Nematodes.
Nematodes are the most plentiful multicellular animals on the planet. They are everywhere; in soil and on decomposing material, from the cold environments to the tropics, in all plant life, in almost all animals, including humans, and also insects (“Information”, 2016).
Nematodes are non- segmented roundworms that possess complete digestive, excretory, nervous and reproductive systems (“Information”, 2016). Most are microscopic. The diversity of nematode forms and territories are incredible: there are more than 15,000 known species, can you imagine that! They infect everything from bugs to whales to humans. Nematodes can take the energy of living organism and cause serious diseases, even kill humans and animals. There are other nematode parasites in humans that are transmitted by eating meat that is not cooked adequately, or through contact with soil or water contaminated with feces, from humans or animals (Hay, 2016).

How does each firm recognize revenue and how does its revenue recognition policies compare to its competitors? Is there evidence of aggressive revenue recognition? Consider the firm’s operating income and how it has been affected by “above the line” items including research and development expenses, restructuring costs, income taxes and foreign currency translation. Consider “below the line” components to income including discontinued operations and extraordinary items. Dear Eliie2121,
Apparently you have a challenge with your composition skills. You have good ideas but you are having trouble expressing them. I would suggest that you go to the Writing Center and get some assistance. I am not an English instructor but there are so many errors in your writing that it is my feeling that you need this writing assistance. Even in this email to me there are numerous errors of grammar. I am going to write your question over correctly so that you can see the errors. Please look carefully at the punctuation I have added and the changes. So, in answer to your initial question here, you need to write better and be aware of what you are writing (as I pointed out in my post response to you).
So, if I am reading your response to my discussion question, is it not what you wanted me to write or is it that I see things differently on the questions? Please let me know one way or another so that I can make corrections on it.
On your paper there were missing commas, incorrect capitalization, missing words, plurals needed, etc. Hopefully, you can see that some assistance is needed. I am here to assist you and this is the best advice I can give you so that you can be successful in graduate school and in your teaching career.

The United States maintains a complex network of law enforcement agencies at the local, state and federal levels. These agencies have varying degrees of specialty and work closely with one another and the courts. Functions performed by the levels of police agencies in the United States run a gamut, from preventing the importation of illegal drugs to ensuring the safety of students at universities. The role of a police agency depends upon its location and jurisdiction. many as 23,000 local and state police agencies exist in the United States as of 2011, depending upon the method of counting them. Types of police agencies under state jurisdiction include local township or city police forces, state police, countrywide sheriff's offices, state highway patrols and constables. The structure and levels of state police agencies differs in each state. Hawaii, for instance, maintains no state police force per Se, but rather a Department of Public Safety. In most states, sheriffs serve as elected officials and act as political liaisons between state governments and police agencies. Various agencies perform specialized police functions at state level. Fish and game wardens, for instance, enforce hunting, fishing, boating laws. According to O'Connor, 35 U.S. states invest independent agencies such as the Department of Criminal Investigations, Department of Motor Vehicles and Alcohol Beverage Control with special, limited powers of law enforcement and investigation. These agencies enforce laws within their jurisdiction, often with the cooperation of other police agencies. Other special divisions of police agencies include K-9 units, which work with police dogs, HAZMAT units, which handle hazardous materials and SWAT, or special tactical units.

As individuals enter the stage of late adulthood, their previous experiences, lifestyle and relationships help determine what, indeed, this stage will entail (Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman, 2016). In this week’s case study, 70- year-old Francine sought counseling for symptoms of depression, directly related to the loss of her partner of thirty years, Joan (Plummer, Makris and Brocksen, 2014). Since Francine’s family and loved ones were unaware of the extent of the the relationship between Francine and Joan, Francine did not have the necessary support as she navigated her way through her grieving process. She started drinking alcohol more often, after several years of sobriety (Plummer, et. al., 2014).
It can be assumed that Francine’s relationship with Joan, spanning thirty years, has certainly influenced her aging process. In long-term relationships, such as this one, individuals identify as being half of a partnership, as opposed to their individual beings (Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman, 2016). These defining relationships allow for individuals to feel supported and share experiences throughout their daily lives. This relationship is at the crux of Francine’s being, and although her partner has passed, its value can be utilized to help Francine cope with the loss and navigate through the remainder of her life. Additionally, Francine’s extensive experience within the workforce will also positively contribute to her aging process. Throughout these years, Francine’s interaction with people, both professionally and socially, have helped to promote a healthy inner being. While she may not be feeling sociable after Joan’s passing, referencing her forty year career will be a helpful tool for her clinician.
The case study mapped out the positive aspects in Francine’s life beautifully. Despite the depression she is currently experiencing, employing a Strength Based Perspective, focusing on her resiliency, would be an appropriate and effective method to help Francine achieve her most positive outcomes (Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman, 2016). Francine has shown a tremendous capacity throughout her life in identifying and removing the triggers causing harmful behaviors; this awareness resulted in many years of sobriety (Plummer, et. al., 2014). Furthermore, Francine, despite her current depressive state, ha.

During the time (6 years ago) when Andres was exiting middle adulthood and enter late adulthood, he was transitioning from a period of stability to a period of instability (Plummer, Makris, & Brocksen, 2014). Major changes were ahead that would hit Andres hard. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs can be used to describe Andres past and present emotional and intellectual state. Prior to Andres diagnosis of a brain tumor and Parkinson’s disease, he achieved all of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Andres, physiological, safety, belongingness, self-esteem, and self-actualization needs were met. He was married, had children and grandchildren, had a great career, plenty of friends, and exercised daily. (Plummer et al, 2014). According to Maslow “When people fulfill the most elemental needs, they strive to meet those on the next level, and so forth, until the highest order of needs is reached (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2016, p. 505). Emotionally and intellectually Andres was in a good place. Now, at the age of 68, he has disabilities and has lost most of his independence. He tries to de independent, but has injured himself several times. Activities as basic as eating and bathing unassisted are forever changed. Andres has lost his independence and has become depressed as he realizes more and more that his life is forever altered. “He now uses a cane and walker to ambulate. His speech is slow and soft. He requires assistance to get dressed and eat at times due to severe tremors and the loss of dexterity in his hands”
(Plummer et al, 2014). His safety needs were not being met, especially due to his instability, disabilities, and other medical conditions. This has resulted in a lack of belongingness, low-self-esteem, and no self-actualization. But over time Andres started to accept who he has become. Even though Andres hated asking for help, he realized that asking for assistance could have prevented some of the falls and injuries (Plummer et al, 2014). Andres, accepted the help of the social worker, accepted some help from family, realized that he could not change what has happened to him, and even reclaimed some of the friendships he once had with colleagues.

An explanation of potential challenges in adhering to confidentiality in your field education experience
My field education experience is called “brighter future”. It is an agency that most of the employee are related. And so part of their confidently is made sure that they do not share information.
A description of agency policies or mandates about confirms to evidentiality
Today at my field placement, we discuss the important of confidentiality. According to my agency policies, we have to make sure that everything we do is kept confidential. For example, I was observing and learning how to input documents into the computer. I found out that, everyone in the agency is required to keep every file, everything they do about that client has to be protected.
The files that inputted in the computer were also kept manually and under the table so that no one would know about their client’s names.
Discussing any client outside the office was a no-no. They were also required not to address any problem faced by the clients until they have any a consent letter from the client.
An explanation of potential challenges in communicating with clients within your agency
The challenges that I see with confidentiality within this agency is how they interact with each other. Some of the confidential information is shared throughout the agency and take lightly as a joke. I think it’s about time for all employee to come together and be supportive of this little fella who wanted a bike but lack of financial report

The bright side about working with clients that are in our organization is that these clients are willing to meet with us. As a State Correctional employee, we often use evaluations to analyze in-service training, policy reviews, programs and services, etc. It may seem as if we are over evaluating; however, this helps to ensure our services are effective.
Westat (2010) says the two reasons program evaluation exists, as written for the National Science Foundation, is to “improve a project” and “document what has been achieved” (p. 3).
The most consistent with my interest is program improvement. For instance, we had four different in-service courses with the same course information. An evaluation was passed out to the students at the end of the course to provide their opinion of the course. The comments prompted the instructors to redesign four courses into one. Evaluations are essential tool in Corrections because it allows us to
document our achievements, which will result in data to support our reentry programs.

In my work with community corrections, I have not conducted any type of program evaluation; however, I understand program evaluation is designed to answer some key questions about a program’s effectiveness to the stakeholders (community, participants and staff). The overarching idea behind program evaluation is to ascertain if those who should benefit from the program are actually benefiting and if those performing the services to the community are skilled at providing the services. Another important aspect of program evaluation is to determine whether the allocated resources for the services are sufficient for addressing the needs of the population (The Program Manager’s Guide to Evaluation, 2010).
In looking at this week’s resources, Langbein (2012) identifies some distinct differences between program and project (p.3). A program is described as “ongoing services or activities” (Langbein, 2012, p. 3) while projects are intended to be one-time activities that has long-lasting sustainable impact on communities (p. 3). Thus, program evaluations should help determine the extent of a program’s success or lack thereof (what works and what does not work) as well as provide insight on navigating areas where unexpected circumstances occur (Westat, 2010). In short, program evaluations provide managers and administrators the data needed to prove or disprove the value of a program which ultimately impac.

When working with clients, there are many factors at play that
not only formed the client in their early years, but also
influence them now. The factors that influence them now can
include: family, living situation, job situation, friends, religious
community, etc. These factors can all influence how a social
worker can assist in intervening in a client’s life. Each of these
2. factors can also be included in different systems that influence
the client (Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman, 2016).
Let us take, for example, the case of Lester. Lester was
an independent member in his community, church community,
and was able to handle his life all by himself. However, after an
automobile accident, Lester has done a 180 and can no longer
clothe or clean himself (Plummer, Makris, and Brocksen, 2014).
This is where systems perspective comes in: what systems in
Lester’s life can the social worker use to assist Lester? From the
case study, we know that Lester is close with his family, but his
sister-in-law has really stepped up to the plate in helping with
Lester’s care. Because of Lester’s connections with his religious
community, they may be relied on for resources. Lester’s
children have not been involved really at all, so they should not
be counted on as a system on which Lester can rely (Plummer,
Makris, and Brocksen, 2014). Lester will have to have new
systems created for him, as he cannot create them for himself
anymore.
As a social worker, it is crucial to know the systems on
which a client can rely. System Theory is a good theory because
of its ability to be used with any client. Knowing what
resources are available to a client, as well as their interactions
with those resources, is key in creating a treatment plan for the
client.

3. Hello Everyone,
Multiple systems interact to impact individuals on many levels.
In Lester's case he is a 59 year old African American widower
who suffered from injuries because of his involvment in a
mulitiple car crash. "Prior to the accident he was an electrician
and lived on his own in a family home", (Plummer, Makris and
Brocksen 2014). This crash caused him to depend on multiple
systems in his life such as his family, rehabilitation
facilities, and social workers. All of these systems interact as
aid for Lester's recovery. Members of his family are requesting
Power of attorney in order to make important decisions for him,
as well as pay his bills and other things. The social worker
wanted to make sure that his mental state was okay by doing
assessments, and the rehabilitation centers are aiding in his
overall physical recovery.
As a social worker I might apply systems perspective to my
work with Lester by, allowing him to see all of the people that
truly care about him, and are aiding him in his recovery.
"Clients are affected by and in constant dynamic interactions
with other systems including families groups organizations and
communities", (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2016).. Sometimes
when tragic things happen to people they become depressed, and
can only see the negative. As a social worker I would also use
the systems perspective to connect his rrehabilitation process,
counseling, and family matters. All of these things aid in
helping Lester live a productive life despite his current
circumstances. I would apply a systems perspective to social
work practice by addressing all areas of a clients situation. In
order to do that, a social worker needs to make sure that the
primary focus is on the individuals well-being, and all of the
other areas such as family, groups, organizations and
communities aid in helping that client reach his or her goals,
and live productive lives.

5. The Case of Rita and a Possible Change to Policy
The Case of Rita discusses the time frame policy of the
maximum time someone has to report a sexual assault with
forensic data. While 90 days may seem like quite a bit of time
to decide whether or not to file a report, it in actuality is a short
period of time especially for a person dealing with a crisis
(Plummer, Makris, & Brocksen, 2014). A possible change to
policy that I could foresee being something to implement is the
length in time, which an individual has the ability to make a
sexual assault report. I do not think that an individual is ready
at that fast of a pace of 90 days to make a conscious decision.
Plummer, Makris, and Brocksen (2014) states how it, “…affects
her or his ability to retain information and make decisions.”
Due to the clouded mindset of the client, it is difficult to make
clear and concise decisions. For this reason, I would attempt to
implement a longer period of time for the decision making
process.
Evaluate the Success of the Policy Changes
I might evaluate the success of the policy changes by evidence-
based outcomes. So to speak it would be based on facts such as
clients being satisfied with submitting reports in a clearer
mindset. Also, depending the client’s demeanor has changed
over time especially after having submitted the report. In
addition, if the client has been successful in counseling as well
(i.e. making breakthroughs, coming out of a depression, not
being angry with the offender).

Policy Change and the Case of Rita
In the case of Rita who is a 22 year old Latina who was
sexually assaulted by a friend of a fellow co-worker. She went
to the hospital to have a sexual assault kit done and was given
medication to treat any possible STDs along with emergency
contraceptives. She did not feel comfortable filing a report or
pressing charges because she was very traumatized and blamed
6. herself for the incident. According to Rita's state policy for
reporting sexual assault cases to local law enforcement, she
only has 90 days to make a decision. For someone who has
experienced this type of trauma, that is nearly not enough time
to explain the details of what happened during the assault let
alone make a rational decision on weither or not to file charges
against the perpetrator. A policy change that would be effective
would be to eliminate the 90 day filing limit.
Even with the filing limit, the sexual assault kit would not be
any good so there would be no evidence and the perpetrator
would have fled.
Measuring Policy Change
A strength based perspective would be a good way to
measure the effectiveness of the policy change. It allows the
victims to decide when they are ready to report the assault or if
they even want to report it. If they want to report it, then they
can have to sexual assault kit done and press charges right after
the incident without feeling pressured and they can give a
detailed description of the incident to law enforcement.

In the case of the Johnson video, policies in which the
perpetrator and the victim have to tell their stories in front of
each other could be intimidating towards the victim. In the clip,
it was obvious that the man calling the victim a "slut" aroused
emotions inside of her, therefore making it harder for her to
maintain her composure. Also another policy that could be
changed could be leaving the decision to press criminal charges
in that hands of one person. What makes him so credible to
distinguish if either party or being truthful or not? What if he
has a biased towards man accused of sexual assaults? At lease
having more that one authority figure deciding on the fate of the
complaint might be beneficial. As well as interviewing each
party separate therefore the victim could feel comfortable
telling their story might also be beneficial.
Colleague 2: Jesse
Current universities campus policies on sexual assault
occurrences can cause victims to develop mental health issues,
8. such as depression and/or anxiety. In Talia’s case she expresses
her anxiety around the situation through her body language
because she has to be right beside her perpetrator. Once her
rapist voices his thoughts Talia becomes enraged (Laureate
Education, 2013). Having both the victim and perpetrator come
into at the same time causes unneeded stress on the victims.
Talia experienced physical and psychotically stress having to
face her rapist. I think the school should have appointed an
advocate for Talia so she would have known and understood her
options and also to provide moral support for Talia. One change
I would implement would be to assign an advocate for any
criminal accusations between students. They would help the
student navigate through the process and provide emotional
support through this tough time. The success of this policy
change could be evaluated by how the victims feel about the
added support through their situations. I would also add some
type of counseling afterwards to periodically check in on the
students’ mental health and how they are coping with their
feelings after the incident.

The role a social worker lobbying and campaigning is to
advocate for our clients. The NASW talks about how social
workers can aid our society by writing policy changes,
lobbying, organizing agency and community events, and helping
make changes to laws for disadvantaged members of society
(NASW, n.d). Our passion is to be a voice for those who feel
unheard or unrepresented. We stand up for those who face
inequalities. Social workers that are elected officials have the
opportunity to make powerful and positive changes. They are
able to bring new light and new views to policies and laws that
10. might need revising or changes. I feel as though I have learned
a lot from my colleagues in this class. They have shown me a
lot of different aspects and thought processes. This class as
allowed me to see other point of views and broaden my way of
viewing situations.
Colleague 2: Lisa
Hello Everyone,
The role of lobbying and campaigning in social work practice is
necessary, and is a form ofadvocacy for marginalized and
oppressed groups of people. "Lobbying is simply the purposive,
goal directed, planned process of attempting to influence the
position of a decision maker usually an elected one", (Popple &
Leighninger, 2015). I strongly believe that social workers might
have a powerful and positive effect as elected officials because
they know how to advocate for marginalized groups of people,
they research issues that affect people, they plan and set goals
before implementing them, and they know where and how to get
the resources that people need. "Social workers are powerful as
elected officials in charting the way forward on particular issues
of concerns, particularly those affecting disadvantaged groups",
(Rome, Harris & Hoechstetter, 2010). The experiences and
opinions of my colleagues have had an impact on my won
experiences and opinions in many ways. Sometimes listening to
another persons point of view can either make you stick to your
own opinions, or in some cases change the way you think about
a particular issue. This will also happen on our jobs as well.
Social workers should ask colleagues their opinions when faced
with difficult situations and sometimes just to see if you are on
the right track to handeling a situation.
