Respecting Truth
CLF - 9
Objectives:
 Identify on the present truth issues
 Relate insights on these issues in the light of the eighth
commandment, ”You shall not bear false witness against your
neighbor”.
 Discuss Church teaching regarding the violations of Truth.
 Share ones experience on overcoming one of these issues of
truth.
Questions:
1. How did you come up with those
answers? What are your basis?
2. What are the similarities in these two
cases? What are the differences?
What word can you see?
What is the truth?
We uphold truth in different ways,
 When our thoughts corresponds to the reality we experience and
are not in error
 When our words when we express in all honesty what we think and
do not lie.
 When our words corresponds to our actions.
“I am the way and the truth and
the life. No one comes to the
Father except through me.”
(John 14:6)
The Eighth Commandment
God reminds of our human obligations to stand
against all perversions of Truth that can threaten
the very foundation of a just community.
Jesus affirmed the importance of the
commandment through His words and deeds.
Jesus Christ reminds us of the liberating power
of Truth.
Jesus calls us to follow His own openness and
respect for the truth through words and deeds
that leads to true freedom
The Truth can set you Free
Obstacles to respecting Truth
 Direct Violations of Truth such as:
 Perjury - the voluntary violation of an oath or vow either by
swearing to what is untrue or by omission to do what has been
promised under oath : false swearing
 Slander or Calumny - a misrepresentation intended to harm
another's reputation
 Detraction – to speak out publicly what is actually true but is
unnecessarily destructive of a person’s good name and reputation
Obstacles to respecting Truth
Gossiping and Backbiting
Name-calling
Teasing
Verbal Abuse
Media and Truth
Despite the many benefits of Media it is also a source
of negative values.
Promiscuity
Violence
Consumerism
Commercialism
Media and Truth
The freedom of Truth is not without any
obligations.
Media practitioners have the obligation to
present information truthfully and properly.
Respecting Truth
St. Paul reminds us that as
members of Christ’s body, we are
called to foster unity and
understanding.
Assessment:
As an HSSTian, what school core values
can you relate with the topic?
Give 3 ways for you to be able to uphold
the truth using the HSSTian Core Values.
Objectives:
 Identify on the present truth issues

Assignment:
Write a short prayers of the faithful
regarding the different issues of truth
happening in our world today.
Write it in your CLF notebook. It will
needed during our short prayer service by
next meeting.

  1. Education is our way of valuing truth by learning more about the world and about ourselves. Honesty is not just the proclamation of cold abstract truth but an expression of our basic respect for the dignity of everyone. The inner peace we gain from our acts of personal integrity and principle revea;s how much we value truth in our deeds. We acknowledge that God is the source of Truth himself.
