LDL Cholesterol Target :“ Lower the Better ”
Lowering LDL cholesterol provides significant cardiovascular benefits and reduces risk, even in those with low baseline LDL levels or who achieve very low LDL levels with treatment. While residual risk remains even with intensive statin therapy to lower LDL well below current target levels, risk continues to decrease as LDL is further lowered. The lower the achieved LDL level, the lower the long-term risk of major cardiovascular events and atherosclerotic progression.

While residual risk remains even with intensive statin therapy to lower LDL well below current target levels, risk continues to decrease as LDL is further lowered. The lower the achieved LDL level, the lower the long-term risk of major cardiovascular events and atherosclerotic progression.

Department of Cardiology, Dhaka Medical College during July 2008 to December 2009, to determine whether the concentrations of hs-CRP correlate with the coronary atherosclerotic disease assessed by coronary angiography.

This study aimed to determine if levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) correlate with the severity of coronary artery disease as assessed by coronary angiography. 90 patients undergoing coronary angiography were divided into three groups based on their hs-CRP levels. Significant positive correlations were found between hs-CRP levels and vessel score, stenosis score, and extent score, suggesting higher hs-CRP levels are associated with more extensive coronary artery disease. The results indicate hs-CRP levels may be predictive of the severity of coronary atherosclerosis.
Impact of obesity on cardiometabolic risk: Will we lose the battle?
1. Obesity and related conditions like diabetes pose a growing threat to cardiovascular health and mortality. Risk factors like obesity, physical inactivity and diabetes accounted for thousands of additional deaths in the UK from 1981-2000.
2. Studies show obesity is independently associated with coronary endothelial dysfunction and a more malignant form of coronary artery disease. Even modest excess weight increases the risk of acute conditions like unstable angina and myocardial infarction.
3. Visceral abdominal fat is metabolically active and secretes inflammatory proteins that can promote atherosclerosis. Losing weight and reducing inflammation may help lower cardiovascular risk.

This study examines the relationship between metabolic syndrome and neuroendocrine and autonomic function. It finds that men with metabolic syndrome have higher levels of cortisol metabolites and catecholamines in their urine, as well as higher heart rate and lower heart rate variability, compared to healthy controls. These differences suggest increased activity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and sympathetic nervous system in metabolic syndrome. Psychosocial factors explained part of these neuroendocrine differences. Many of the changes appeared reversible in those who no longer had metabolic syndrome. The study provides initial evidence that chronic stress may contribute to the development of metabolic syndrome.
Qualitative Flow Cytometric Analysis of Malaysian
This study utilized flow cytometric immunophenotyping to analyze bone marrow samples from 30 newly diagnosed myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) patients. Abnormalities were frequently observed in the granulocytic, monocytic, and erythroid lineages of MDS patients compared to controls. The most common abnormality in granulocytes was decreased expression of CD10. Low expressions of CD13 were most common in monocytes. The erythroid lineage commonly showed low expression of CD71 and CD235a. Flow cytometry provided supportive evidence of phenotypic abnormalities to aid in the diagnosis of MDS when morphological analysis alone was inconclusive.

Blood sugar

The results showed that patients with a higher number of metabolic syndrome components, such as hypertension, obesity, high triglycerides, and low HDL, had greater difficulty controlling their blood sugar. Younger patients and those who did not regularly attend the diabetic clinic were also more likely to have uncontrolled blood sugar. While atherosclerotic risk factors like smoking and family history were associated with worse control, the relationship was inconclusive due to the study's small sample size. In conclusion, metabolic syndrome components and younger age were linked to challenges with blood sugar management in diabetic patients.
Metabolic syndrome vs HbA1c

Background; Myocardial Infarction (MI) is a term which is used for defining the necrosis in the heart muscle due to the lack of the oxygen need of myocardium which cannot be supplied by the coronaries. Aim: This study was carried out to determine the effects of some lifestyle and anthropometric parameters on some cardiac enzymes. Methods: A total of 146 students of sex, age bracket, (16 - 30) were recruited for this study. Enzymatic methods were used in the determination of AST, ALT, CKMB activities. Anthropometric measurements of the participants were taken. The result showed that there was significant increase in systolic blood pressure (SBP), weight and height (p<0.05), but there was no significant increase in their diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and body mass index (BMI) (p>0.05) in the serum ALT, AST, and CKMB activities. However, there was significant difference in ALT and AST activities (P<0.05) but there was no significant difference in serum CKMB activity (P>0.05). Statistically the percentage of the participants that had their serum ALT activity above the reference range were 16.6%, those within the reference range were 83.4%,. In serum AST activity, the percentage above the reference range were 19.9%, those within the reference range were 80.1%. Meanwhile, in serum CK-MB activity, those above the reference range were 25.2% while those within the reference range were 74.8%. Conclusion: This could be probably indicate that the leakage of AST and ALT activities may be of hepatic origin. . This study strengthens evidence that a genetic variant in the CST3 gene, which encodes cystatin C, increases risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in a recessive manner similar to its known effect on Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk. The researchers genotyped 350 patients with exudative AMD and found that those homozygous for the variant allele had a significantly increased risk, whereas heterozygous individuals did not. Bringing these results together with a previous AMD association study and AD meta-analysis showed a high correlation between effect sizes for AMD and AD. This supports the hypothesis that this variant confers recessive risk to both neurodegenerative diseases.
