Waste generation: reduce, reuse, recycle and the role of collaborationPlataforma R3 Mineral
Apresentação feita no Seminário Avanços na Gestão e Utilização de Resíduos e Rejeitos, no dia 14 de setembro de 2016, no auditório do Centro de Desenvolvimento de Tecnologia Nuclear (CDTN).
The document discusses strategies for optimizing the collection and processing of municipal solid waste and organics. It examines the tradeoffs between single-stream collection versus source separation of recyclables and organics. The optimal approach depends on factors like tipping fees and route density. Emerging technologies can help shift these tradeoffs by improving separation of materials at processing facilities. An integrated "layered approach" is proposed to maximize diversion rates and revenues through efficient pre-sorting, size reduction, and separation of recyclables and organics for beneficial uses.
Recycling Technologies provides a machine called the RT7000 that uses an advanced thermal process to recycle unsorted mixed plastic waste into a valuable hydrocarbon product called Plaxx. The RT7000 addresses the large and growing problem of plastic waste by providing an economically viable and environmentally friendly solution. It converts mixed plastic waste, which would otherwise be landfilled or incinerated, into Plaxx, a solid fuel that can be used to produce new plastics or fuel various industrial processes.
Lucent Wastewater Solutions s about the profitable commercialization of a multi-module, highly scalable bio-reactor called a Microbial Fuel Cell used in wastewater management; it effectively reduces pollution to meet local regulation, inhibits the production of the potent green house gas Methane, produces renewable “alternative energy” in the form of electricity or hydrogen, all with no additional energy input. Compared to current technology it is 80% less in capital cost, 250% smaller in size, enables “Go Green” PR by shrinking carbon footprint, increases bottom line profits by slashing operational cost.

This document discusses the challenges facing the mining industry due to low commodity prices. It notes that commodity prices are near 14-year lows and that the commodity metals price index, which tracks prices of metals like copper, aluminum, and uranium, is well below its 2005 level. Many metal prices have declined substantially from their highs in the late 2000s. The mining industry is under stress due to these low prices, which are expected to continue, as well as declining ore quality, productivity, and innovation in the industry. The document advocates for a more sustainable approach to mining called "comprehensive extraction" that minimally disturbs land, recovers multiple resources, produces no waste, and provides benefits to stakeholders.

Mining companies need better insights into their internal talent in order to identify future needs. They should reexamine performance reviews and feedback to employees to better understand employee performance and potential. Cameco is trying to better integrate talent acquisition and HR policies with business strategy for increased flexibility. This allows them to gain insights into pressure points and problems to save time and resources. Mining work is always changing, so companies must understand the core competencies and skills required for each role to support changes from new technologies and automation.
Interview with: Michael Pettis, Finance Professor, Peking University’s Guanghua School of Management, a speaker at the marcus evans Mining Technology and Operations Summit 2013, on the global commodities market.
Mining companies have a large impact and poor public image that requires a stronger focus on corporate social responsibility (CSR). CSR initiatives should be integrated into core strategy rather than run separately. As mining operations become more stable and sustainable, CSR efforts should include business partners who also impact reputation. Top-level support is needed to truly embed CSR, including environmental and social issues, into organizational culture from strategy to the board.

Understanding User Needs and Satisfying ThemAggregage
https://www.productmanagementtoday.com/frs/26903918/understanding-user-needs-and-satisfying-them
We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
