Assignment 2 Health Policy Proposal Analysis (Policy Brief).docxannrodgerson
Assignment 2: Health Policy Proposal Analysis (Policy Brief)
Nurses engaged in the policy arena often are asked to provide information on a health care topic of interest to policy makers. This is frequently accomplished through developing a policy brief. A policy brief advocates for a particular recommendation (prior to the enactment of a policy). Learning how to write a policy brief in a clear, succinct, scholarly, and professional manner is an essential skill for advanced practice nurses.
For this Assignment, you will assess one of the recommendations from the Institute of Medicine’s
The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health: Report Recommendations.
You will then develop a policy brief to advocate for this recommendation (the written policy brief is due in Week 7).
To prepare:
Review the Lavis et al. article on preparing and writing policy briefs provided in the Learning Resources
(See attached file).
Select one of the recommendations within the
IOM The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health: Report Recommendations
to focus on for this assignment.
Research the history of the problem behind the recommendation and what has been done to try to solve the problem.
What does the recommendation say should be done? Are there any groups, nursing and others, currently supporting work to implement the recommendation (e.g., Kaiser Family Foundation, professional organizations)? Does the recommendation suggest specific groups that should be involved in the implementation? Think critically about how the recommendation should be implemented – did the IOM get it right? What other strategies are possible to consider?
By Thursday 04/12/2018 3pm,
To complete:
Develop a scholarly and professionally written 2- to 3-page single-spaced policy brief on the recommendation you selected from the IOM report following
the format presented in the Lavis et al. article.
(See attached file for the article). Include the following:
Short introduction with statement of the problem.
The selected recommendation (from the IOM Report)
Background
Current characteristics
The impact of the recommendation from the perspective of consumers, nurses, other health professionals, and additional stakeholders
Current solutions
Current status in the health policy arena
Final conclusions
Resources used to create the policy brief

A Comparison of Key Models in Health Informatics
As part of this course, you will be developing an evaluation plan based on an appropriate model. For this Assignment, you will examine in depth the four models introduced in this week's Learning Resources (
Technology Acceptance, Model Diffusion of Innovations, Disruptive Innovation, Sociotechnical Theory Models
).
By increasing your familiarity with these key models, you will more easily recognize which would be most appropriate for the evaluation you decide to perform.
To prepare:
Review the four research models covered in this week’s Learning Resources.
Consider the key points of each and when they would be the most appropriate choice for an evaluation.
To complete
this Assignment:
By Thursday 12/22/2016 by 5pm,
1)
Create graphic representations of the four models, including descriptions of each overall model, key components, who was involved in their development, key ways they have been used, and potential uses in health informatics.
2)
These representations will be for your use in your upcoming course project, so the greater the detail, the more useful these representations will be to you.

Discussion Using Improvement Science Models to Promote Quality and .docxlefrancoishazlett
Discussion: Using Improvement Science Models to Promote Quality and Safety
…while all changes do not lead to improvement, all improvement requires change.
—United States Agency for International Development
Improvement science models bring together research and evidence-based practice to identify the most effective ways to promote quality and safety in health care. As a central tenet of quality improvement, attention must be paid to the processes that contribute to outcomes.
In this Discussion, you examine quality improvement models and evaluate how they could be applied to address specific issues within health care organizations.
To prepare:
Review the improvement models presented in the Learning Resources.
Evaluate each of the models and select two on which to focus for this Discussion.
Consider how each of the two models could be utilized in a health care organization to promote quality and safety. Think about the following:
How does the model bring together research and evidence-based practice to facilitate quality improvement?
How does the model contribute to a culture of quality and safety?
How does it address changes in process?
Reflect on the quality improvement issue and the health care setting that you are addressing for your Course Project. Of the two models that you have selected, determine which one you, as a nurse leader-manager, would use to address this issue. Also consider how this would relate to one or more of the IOM’s six aims for quality and safety.
Post your analysis of how the two improvement models that you selected could foster a culture of quality and patient safety and facilitate changes in process that promote positive outcomes. Explain how you would use one of these models to address the quality improvement issue in the organization that you have selected for your Course Project, and how doing so would relate to one or more of the IOM’s six aims for improving quality and safety.
Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses.
Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days using one or more of the following approaches:
Offer additional strategies for using your colleague’s selected model to address the IOM’s six aims for quality.
Share insights for engaging frontline staff using your colleague’s selected improvement model.
Compare the steps in the improvement model that you selected with your colleague’s.
Suggest an alternative model for your colleague to utilize in his or her identified health care organization.

A range of ethical issues must be considered in an HIT system implementation. Ethical issues can be related to the appropriate use of decision support systems, privacy and confidentiality, consent for the use of clinical information, and accountability errors. By being aware of potential ethical issues, nurse informaticists may generate evaluation plans that circumvent or address ethical concerns before these concerns hinder a system implementation.
In this Discussion, you analyze potential concerns or issues that could arise during an evaluation, and consider strategies for addressing those concerns.
To prepare:
Select one of the following areas, and consider potential ethical issues a nurse informaticist may encounter:
appropriate uses and users of decision support systems
privacy and confidentiality
consent for secondary use of clinical and genetic information in databases
accountability or responsibility for errors
Using this week’s Learning Resources and at least one additional resource from the Walden Library, identify key concerns within the area you selected.
Consider strategies for using evaluations to address these ethical concerns.
By Wednesday 1/25/2016, post a minimum of 550 words essay in APA format with at least 3 references from the list below that include the level one headings as followed below:
1)
A summary of the key ethical concerns within the area you selected.

Required to do a 10-15 minute PowerPoint presentation on a case stud.docxkellet1
Required to do a 10-15 minute PowerPoint presentation on a case study based on one of the disorders discussed in the textbook.
The task is to present a comprehensive analysis of the case which includes identifying information, symptoms and problems, hypotheses regarding the presenting problem, a multi-axial diagnosis (along with disorders that were ruled-out), the type of treatment (therapy and/or medication) the client should receive, and relevant cultural considerations. In addition, the presenters should include a slide that lists additional questions that would help to treat the client and/or that would provide clarity regarding the presenting problem.
Students will be graded on correct diagnosis(es) for each axis, including principle, deferred and/or differential, whether each diagnosis or lack of a diagnosis was clearly justified based on clinical criteria, and if important features of the client’s symptoms/behaviors were clearly identified and insightfully analyzed. The presentation will also be graded for content, quality of presentation, presentation skills (e.g., level of comfort, knowledge of subject, etc.), and number of errors in mechanics, usage, grammar, and spelling. Breakdown of points as follows:
40 Points – Analysis of case
30 Points – Clarity, organization, and comprehensiveness
30 Points – Grammar, punctuation, and spelling
Differential diagnosis
refers to all of the diagnostic categories that you seriously considered during the diagnostic process. Because the symptoms present in the case study suggest the possibility of several disorders, a thorough discussion of disorders that you excluded is warranted. In other words, you should discuss why you assigned the diagnoses that you did and why you ruled out others.
Multi-axial Diagnosis Format
You can have multiple diagnoses on any axis. It is also possible that there is no diagnosis on an axis. List every diagnosis for which the diagnostic criteria are met. When no diagnosis exists for a particular axis, “No Diagnosis” is entered on the line. The first diagnosis listed on Axis I is assumed to be the principal diagnosis unless otherwise specified. If the principal diagnosis is a Personality Disorder or Mental Retardation, it should be listed on Axis II, labeled as the “Principal Diagnosis” in parentheses.
Axis I:
Includes all of the disorders we will cover in class, with the exception of Personality Disorders and Mental Retardation.
Axis II:
Includes only Personality Disorders and Mental Retardation
Axis III:
Includes general medical conditions that are relevant to Axis I and Axis II diagnoses.
Axis IV:
Includes a listing of any relevant psychosocial and environmental problems or stressors.
Axis V:
Includes a numerical rating of current functioning, and occasionally highest functioning over the past year, on a scale of 0 to 100. (Use chart below)

1.6 Writing a Research Proposal
After reviewing the literature and putting considerable thought into planning a study, the next step is to prepare a research proposal. The goalof any research proposal is to present a detailed description about the research problem and the methods with which you think that theresearch should be conducted. Research proposals are extremely important because they are key to unlocking the research project (Leedy &Ormrod, 2010). They may determine whether you receive approval or funding, so they need to clearly articulate the purpose of the researchand persuade the audience it is worthwhile. If research proposals do not clearly and specifically define the research problem and methods, theproject might not be accepted. Therefore, it is imperative that the research proposal include "a clearly conceived goal and thorough, objectiveevaluation of all aspects of the research endeavor" (Leedy & Ormrod, 2010, p. 117).
Research proposals can range from three pages for some grant applications to more than 30 pages (e.g., for a dissertation or federal grant). They may or may not require an abstract and will have a different format for institutional review board (IRB) approval (see Section 1.7, Ethics inResearch). For our purposes, in general, research proposals follow a standard format. The following is an example you might use:
1. Title/Cover Page
2. Abstract
3. Introduction or Statement of the Problem
a. The research problem
b. The statement of the problem and possible subproblems
c. The purpose statement
d. Hypotheses and/or research questions
e. Independent and dependent variables
f. The assumptions
g. The importance of the study
4. Review of the Literature
5. Method
a. Research methodology
b. Participants and participant selection
c. Data collection procedures
d. Data analysis techniques
6. Discussion
a. Strengths and limitations
b. Ethical considerations
7. References
8. Appendixes
Research proposals are written like research articles in APA style, which is favored in academia. The language must be clear and precise, inparagraph format, and written in a professional, academic manner. Unlike stories or memoirs, proposals are not intended to be creative literaryworks; rather, they should set down certain facts. Organized with headings and subheadings, the proposal should clearly and specifically explainthe research problem, who the participants will be and how they will be selected, what data collection methods will be used, and how the datawill be analyzed and interpreted. Research proposals are require.

Discussion 1
BFOQ
Research the term BFOQ. Explain its importance and relevance to HRM. How might not appropriately incorporating well defined BFOQs lead to difficulties for the organization? How would the concept of BFOQ be linked to “disparate treatment” and/or “disparate impact” in respect to staffing? What is the link between the ADA (1990) and BFOQs? Present your views in 200 words or more in your discussion post.
Discussion 2
Foreign Restrictions on Termination
Research the topic of restrictions on termination of employment in European countries. Assess the different requirements and consider risks, operational requirements for MNCs, modified HRM policies, and any other conditions or restrictions facing a firm operating in such environments. Present your views in 200 words or more in your discussion post.

DISCUSSION 1 WEEK 3 Replies Needed
Training Design
For this discussion, imagine that you are designing a 4-hour leadership development training session. Identify specific learning objectives for your training session. Conduct an Internet search to identify the types of games and business simulations that are available. Select one game or business simulation appropriate for your audience and learning objectives. Provide a brief description, detailed rationale, and thorough analysis of the game or business simulation as it pertains to your specific audience and learning objectives. Do not simply cut and paste from the Internet source.
Your initial post should be 250 to 300 words. Use this week’s lecture as a foundation for your initial post. In addition to the Blanchard and Thacker (2013) text, use at least one additional scholarly source to support your discussion.
Respond to two other posts regarding items you found to be compelling and enlightening. To help you with your reply, please consider the following questions:
· What did you learn from the posting?
· What additional questions do you have after reading the posting?
· What clarification do you need regarding the posting?
· What differences or similarities do you see between your initial discussion thread and your classmates' postings?
· Ask each other questions about why the specific game or simulation was selected.
· How does the chosen game or simulation apply to other situations?
· What are the differences or similarities in the specific game or simulation you selected compared to those identified by others?
· Analyze your classmates' chosen game or simulation. Do you agree or disagree with the choice? Why or why not? Provide examples where possible.
· What are the differences or similarities in the learning content objectives for your training session compared to those identified by others?
Your reply posts should be a minimum of 150-250 words each.

on the uses of logical fallacies and rhetorical appeals in the healthcare field.
The Krishen and Bui (2015) article discusses the active use of logical fallacies to manipulate obese consumers into making better health choices through two oppositional approaches: fear tactics and positive reinforcement.
The Giachino, Stupino, Peratulo, and Bertoldi (2017) article presents a study of fear tactics applied through social advertising, similar to the ads we discussed in our Week 3 discussion boards. Students were exposed to fear advertising in an attempt to reduce high speed driving.
Part 2: Application
Apply what you have learned about logical fallacies and rhetorical appeals to interpret and summarize the articles. Consider the following questions:
If the participants are aware of misleading manipulation techniques, are they immune to their effects?
What are the limitations of these types of fear inducing tactics?
How would you react if you were a subject in one of these studies?
What can we take away from these articles to apply in our own topics?
Where else have you seen these types of fear tactics applied (e.g., advertising, social media, word of mouth, etc.)? Are these other mediums effective? Why is that the case?
Cite your sources in APA format.
Follow-Up Post Instructions
Respond to at least two peers or one peer and the instructor. Offer additional insight into your peers' responses by furthering the discussion. Did you notice any inconstancies in the persuasive methods applied that your peer might have missed? Did you notice any other specific logical fallacies in your peer's response? Have you ever fallen prey to the types of fear tactics commonly used in your classmate's topic? Provide an example if so. If not, how were you able to avoid susceptibility?

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
