The video shows the process of laying bricks with mortar to form a wall. Mortar, made from cement, water and sand, is used to bond the bricks together. Various tools are used in construction including a concrete mixer, trowels, buckets and a level. Plastering is then applied to decorate and waterproof the finished brick wall. The assignment aims to help students understand construction processes, equipment, and building materials and technology.

In this assignment, we are require to write a report for three subjects,
Measurement 1, Building Materials and Construction Technology 1.This report will
describe, explain and understand the method and process of brick wall construction with
the video provided to us by Pn. Azrina of Construction Technology 1 on 23 June 2016.
There consist of three videos, the first video shows us the method of laying brick wall,
the second video shows us the making of mortar using machinery and the third video
shows us plastering of brick wall.

3. What is a brick wall and how is it constructed? A brick wall is a wall consist of
bricks and mortar. Mortar used to bond the bricks together firmly. It composed of a thick
mixture of cement, water, and sand. Water is used to hydrate the cement and hold the
mixture together. Not only that, but the water:cement ratio must be higher for mortar
than concrete in order to form its bonding element. When mixed, it have a much more
thicker substance than concrete,thus making it ideal as a glue for building materials like
brick and it can be mixed by using a concrete mixer.
Mortar are first place on the ground in order for the brick to stick to the ground.
Next, after placing the first brick, you have to add mortar to the side of the placed brick
in order for the 2nd brick to bond together with the other bricks. Soon every bricks in
between each other will consist of mortar.

4. After finishing of brick wall, plastering of the walls will kicks in. In this video, he
uses cement plastering. Plastering is used to prevent water from leaking and uses to
decorate the wall to prevent people to be able to see the bricks.

The machineries, plants and tools used to construct a brick walls are concrete
mixer, mason’s trowel, hawk, square trowel, buckets, level, strings, shovel and
wheelbarrow.
Concrete mixer used for making concrete or mortar.

Shovel for scooping concrete/mortar into the wheelbarrow and wheelbarrow for easier
transportation of moving it to the specific location.
Mason’s trowel to scoop up mortar from the hawk or buckets.

Hawk used to hold cement paste, mortar and concrete.
Square trowel to even the surface area of wall. There’s also a wooden trowel which
was used by the workers in the video.

Joint filler to fill in small empty spot of missing cement in brick wall.
Level to ensure the bricks are horizontal and uses the string to label the bricks to be
placed in straight lines
