1. Appraisal of Paris Pentas
Throughout his time in Software Engineering, Paris has been a model student. He has
been given a single project that he has followed from conception to delivery. During
this time he has helped define and refine the project’s requirements, analysed the
problems involved and designed a solution. This required a considerable amount of
research involving talking to several people within the department, reading technical
specifications and testing hardware all of which Paris undertook with commendable
diligence and thoroughness. He was so effective in his desire to understand the
material he was reading that we’ve been able to improve our documentation as a
result of his efforts. Paris then implemented a working solution of his project design
and tested it. He has even produced some excellent documentation including system
descriptions, user guides and test reports.
During the project Paris has needed to learn to use several, previously unfamiliar
software packages and also become familiar with Renishaw’s development process,
procedures and standards.
Paris has displayed good communication skills, spoken and written, producing several
documents during the project, all to a high standard. He has also made a presentation
of his project to a wide audience including several members of the Renishaw board of
directors. He has managed his time and the project effectively.
On a personal note, he has been polite, punctual and smartly dressed. He has proved
capable of detailed research, concentrated effort and self-motivation. He has also
joined in departmental and company recreational activities and was a member of the
Woodchester rounders team.
