Remote Cultures
1) Overall Impression of both cultures
Both of the cultures in the videos seemed to have their own problems, but the Indian tribe
seemed less weird probably because the other one is in our country but just in a remote area.
2) Implications (social, political, legal, religious, economics, others)
It seems like the Indians had social obligations to fall into the roles of parents and
hunter/gatherers. The people in the trailer park had social obligations of our culture but they
don’t follow them, like how the man beats his wife. The Indians do it because it is all they know.
As for religion, the Indians got high to speak with their god/gods and would interoperate the
visions how they see fit. The rednecks probably fell into a mainstream religion like we have, but
they didn’t really show it in the video.
3) How do they compare to yours
The Indians are completely different solving things with chest poundings and fights while
we usually talk things out or argue. The rednecks fought too, but that is only because no law
enforcement cares enough to go out that far.
4) Similarities between both cultures
Well they both do seem to lean towards violence when choosing how to deal with
situations, like the chest poundings and the redneck threatening to kill his wife. Neither of which
really have a strict law enforcement system to keep them from hurting one another.
They both seem to have social gatherings, like the tribal dances and the redneck drinking
and mudslinging every week.
5) How do you think those cultures were created?
The Indian tribe seems like it was created when other tribes like it populated the planet
and they just never advanced with the technology and time. They were so cut off that none of
them decided the tools they made could be better and more efficient and stuck to their ways.
The Rednecks seem to just not care what the rest of their society or country thinks or
does and takes action into their own hands. They drink, fight, and hurt people just because they
feel like it and they live just out of reach of anyone else so they can get away with it. Law
enforcement isn’t strong in their area so they have no laws or social rules to follow. They don’t
have a very good education system there so no one can learn why that is wrong or what can be
better for them. It is all they know because they choose not to learn otherwise.
6) What would it take to integrate those cultures to ours, should we?
It would take years and years of educating them and teaching them right from wrong in
our society just so they could live and fit in. We shouldn’t force the Indians to change since they
live in their own area and don’t have to function along with another.
The rednecks should be forced to change since they are a part of our society but they just
choose to ignore any laws or obligations imposed by it. They are already a part of our society
and culture, so why shouldn’t they live like they aren’t apart of it?
