Reflection On Video Task
Shot Types/Camera Movements Film
Our overall plan was to use one specific character in our group it was Siham
Mohamed and demonstrate different shot types and explain how they benefit
in a film e.g. a long shot because you can see the whole character and the
environment surrounding the person.
We had many problems for filming seeing as this was our first task we was not
very used to the idea of film making we had to make sure everything around
us was quite because we got loads of feedback and noise which we didn’t
need we also had a problem with lighting because in some shots it was bright
compared to others where it was dark so we had to edit it.
We transferred the video footage by using a wire adapting to the camera and
the apple mac computer and we saved all our footage onto one computer and
also made a folder titled with my groups individual names so every time we
worked on that specific video it would be saved into one folder.
We made the footage into the clips by using final cut pro and editing it so it
was a video it was very simple making it into a clip my group followed our
teachers instructions briefly and took all the criticism and worked on it to
make it a better video.
We added titles by using live type and we saved it then all individually
imported them over to final cut pro and edited them titles in so it fit our shot
types clip.
I believe we fulfilled the criteria of the film we demonstrated all the different
shot types and camera movements although it was hard at the beginning it
became easy and everyone in my group benefited from this task because we
can now all edit our work. I learnt that filming is a difficult process and not as
easy as getting a camera and pressing record.
Continuity Task
In the beginning we had set out to create a video that would help us show our
understanding of continuity and how the different rules worked.
Rules:
• 180 degree rule
• Match on action shot
• 30 seconds of dialogue
• Door opening and closing
• Shot reverse shot
We had to make sure that the criteria was covered that’s why we created a
simple scene of character A (Connor) waiting for character B (Siham), we
showed character B running up the stairs showing an emotion that she was
stressed and character A waiting his facial expression looked annoyed. We
showed Character B walking towards a door then we cut into her walking out
the door and down the corridor till she reached Character A then engaged
into a conversation.
We edited our clips together using final cut pro we had some technical
difficulties because at some points the software wasn’t working and at one
point we lost our work so we had to re do it which was helpful because it gave
us more chances to edit individually.
We as a group I believe fulfilled the criteria because we created a video that
showed an audience the understanding of continuity and the rules. We used
if not all most of the rules for this task.
I think that we could Improve on more editing skills were still amateurs were
not the best yet we only know basics so if we improve and learn new things
and practice our future music video could turn out very good.
