Andy Choy took a Planning 10 course which helped him develop financial literacy and career planning skills. Through the course he learned about various post-secondary options, health issues teenagers face, and the importance of balancing work, study, diet and exercise. Each unit focused on a different topic, from using presentation tools, risks in teenage life, sexuality, financial planning, the job market, career research and personal skills needed for success. In the end, Andy realized he needs strong academic performance as well as personal skills to achieve his goals in civil engineering or physiotherapy.

2. Introduction
• Planning 10 provides opportunities for students to develop
financial literacy skills related to pursuing their education and
career goals, think critically about health issues and decisions,
explore a wide range of post-secondary education and career
options, plan for successful learning in the Graduation
Program.

3. Unit 1
• As I mentioned at the beginning of the course, I had never
heard of planning course before. Throughout the course, I
learn many things. In unit 1, I find out the Web 2.0 tools are
very useful for doing a presentation. It innovates me to do
project and assignment with different styles. For example,
Animoto helps me to create a video with interesting
background music and special effect.

4. Unit 2
• In Unit 2, I discover that there are a lot of potential dangers
existing in the life of a teenager as we are still developing our
self-identity and finding the direction towards the future.
Social media and peers play the important role in our
decision-making. It is also my first time to learn about the
sexuality. Besides, I realize students need to maintain a
balanced diet and do regular exercise as well as studying.

5. Unit 3
• In Unit 3, I recognize it is time to think of a financial plan. We
need to consider the amount of consumption and saving.
Taxes and the restriction of the budget are going to cause a lot
of troubles to us. A successful financial management requires
the considerations over banking, budget, real costs, taxes and
investment. These procedures are more complicated than I
have ever thought of. I cannot always rely on my parents but
becoming more independent.

6. Unit 4
• In unit4, I discover we need to do research about the job market. It is
more complicated than I have thought. The change of the society such as
population, economy influence the job availability of each occupation.
After considering the wage, the job safety, and fee, I decide to pursue
either the career of a civil engineer or physiotherapist. There are lots of
things to think of when applying for a job .Cover letter and resume need to
be well-prepared. Moreover, it is important to know about our right and
duty to prevent any injuries or loss.

7. Unit 5
• In unit 5, after working for a Hong Kong traditional company, I
notice personal management skills, social skills and
communication skills are important for achieving success.
Working experience may be even more valuable than the
academic result in the perspective of the employee.
Furthermore, I find out the information about the civil
engineering and physiotherapy. It seems I need to study for at
least four years.

8. • Planning 10 widens my vision by introducing new information
to me. It also offers references and suggestions to me. Next
time, when I go back to Hong Kong, I am going to tell them
what I have learned from this course.

9. My Future Career
• The career that I plan to pursue remains the same. The subject
requirements of civil engineering for high school students are physic,
chemistry and calculus. The subject requirements of physiotherapy for
high school students are physic and chemistry.
• Through this unit, I discover that it is not easy to get a job or become a
good worker. In addition to the demand for a satisfactory academic result,
I need to be mentally and physically prepared for the upcoming challenge.
The personal management skills, social skills, and communication skills are
also important.
