Do you really want to be pleasing to God? Do we REALLY care what God has said about how He wants us to serve and worship Him - or have we formed our own standards and expect God to accept it? Friend - our service and worship towards God must be according to His revealed standard if we are going to be pleasing to Him!
This class on the Gospel of Matthew is being taught by Dr. John Oakes and Robert Carrillo in San Diego May-Aug, 2015. The first class is by John Oakes and is an introduction to the Book of Matthew, with emphasis on Matthew’s use of historical prophecies, prefigures and foreshadows to show that Jesus fulfills the messianic expectation.
Unfortunately, at times even a church can condone sexual immorality. It happens every day now as churches redefine and explain away God's definition of marriage. In his letter to the church of Thyatira, Jesus tells us how seriously he views us calling sin simply "alternative" or "acceptable" or "tolerant" views. In particular, pornography is destroying nations.
Amidst God's most severe judgments, the world will see his grace as well—in the future just like the present. The broken walls of the city had been restored. However, there was something yet broken. The walls of Jerusalem were broken because God’s people had dishonored God’s Law. Now that the walls are rebuilt, Ezra the Scribe begins an essential process of restoring the people’s respect for God’s commands.
Genesis 11:1-9 describes early man's attempt to rebel against God by creating a religious humanism and economic collectivization. God judged man's attempts at the Tower of Babel and He will judge again, as prophesied in Revelation 17 & 18, future attempts at globalization.

“The Kind of Preaching That Pleases God”Don McClain
(Successful Preachers in The Bible) — When it come to “preaching,” most measure success VERY differently from how God measures it! Most people are advocates of style over substance, smiles instead of rebuke, embelished emotional storys rather than scripture, compromise without the bold proclamation of truth. This lesson will challenge how most people view preachers & preaching. http://w65stchurchofchrist.org/2017_Sermons/2017_03_12_Preaching_That_Pleases_God.mp3
“The Nature of Saving FAITH” (2)— (Romans 3:19-5:5) In Romans 4 Paul is contrasting two opposing SYSTEMS, “FAITH & WORKS.” The “works” system cannot save a sinner because it demands perfection - and no amount of work can undo the sinners sin. The “Faith” system on the other hand implements forgiveness through Jesus thus providing justification on the grounds of God’s grace. Abraham was justified by the system of faith, not by the system of perfect Law keeping. But what kind of FAITH does the system of faith require? What KIND of FAITH did Abraham Have? - 2/26/2017

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.
2. The walls of Jerusalem have been
completed and the people have
returned to settle in their
homeland – Neh. 1:1-7:73
It was the seventh month, (Tishri
- Sept. – Oct.), the Feast of
Trumpets began the month of
festivals- (Lev. 23:24; Num. 29:1),
the 10th day was the day of
atonement, (Lev. 16: 23:26-32),
the 15th-21st was the Feast of
Tabernacles, (Lev. 23:33-36).
2
3. The priesthood and
sacrificial system had been
restored at an earlier time,
(Ezra 3:1-13),
The time had come for the
Law of God to be read before
the people so that their
worship and lives may be
restored to God’s prescribed
order, (Nehemiah 8:1-12)
3
4. Nehemiah 8:1-12 (NKJV)
1 Now all the people gathered together as
one man in the open square that was in
front of the Water Gate; and they told Ezra
the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of
Moses, which the LORD had commanded
Israel. 2 So Ezra the priest brought the Law
before the assembly of men and women and
all who could hear with understanding on
the first day of the seventh month.
4
5. Nehemiah 8:1-12 (NKJV)
3 Then he read from it in the open
square that was in front of the Water
Gate from morning until midday,
before the men and women and those
who could understand; and the ears of
all the people were attentive to the
Book of the Law.
5
6. Nehemiah 8:1-12 (NKJV)
4 So Ezra the scribe stood on a platform
of wood which they had made for the
purpose; and beside him, at his right
hand, stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah,
Urijah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah; and at his
left hand Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah,
Hashum, Hashbadana, Zechariah, and
Meshullam.
6
7. Nehemiah 8:1-12 (NKJV)
5 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of
all the people, for he was standing above all
the people; and when he opened it, all the
people stood up. 6 And Ezra blessed the
LORD, the great God. Then all the people
answered, "Amen, Amen!" while lifting up
their hands. And they bowed their heads
and worshiped the LORD with their faces to
the ground.
7
8. Nehemiah 8:1-12 (NKJV)
7 Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin,
Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah,
Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah,
and the Levites, helped the people to
understand the Law; and the people stood
in their place. 8 So they read distinctly from
the book, in the Law of God; and they gave
the sense, and helped them to understand
the reading.
8
9. Nehemiah 8:1-12 (NKJV)
9 And Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra
the priest and scribe, and the Levites who
taught the people said to all the people, "This
day is holy to the LORD your God; do not
mourn nor weep." For all the people wept,
when they heard the words of the Law. 10 Then
he said to them, "Go your way, eat the fat,
drink the sweet, and send portions to those
for whom nothing is prepared;
9
10. Nehemiah 8:1-12 (NKJV)
for this day is holy to our LORD. Do not
sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your
strength." 11 So the Levites quieted all the
people, saying, "Be still, for the day is holy;
do not be grieved." 12 And all the people
went their way to eat and drink, to send
portions and rejoice greatly, because they
understood the words that were declared to
them.

People need to know

(2 Tim 4:2; 1 Pet. 4:11)
Good preaching and

31. [12] . . . they understood the words that were declared to them.
Can Be Seen In OUR Handling of It
Too many today use pulpits
to entertain, tell jokes, tell
stories, and focus more on
social ills than actually
teaching the word of God –
Consequently, too many
remain untaught about what
the Bible actually teaches.

Matthew 7:21-23 (NKJV)
21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord,
Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven,
but he who does the will of My Father in
heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day,
'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your
name, cast out demons in Your name, and
done many wonders in Your name?' 23 And
then I will declare to them, 'I never knew
you; depart from Me, you who practice
lawlessness!'
34
35. [9] . . . For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the Law
James 1:21-25 (NKJV)
21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of
wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word,
which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word,
and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is
a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man
observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes
himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of
man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty
and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of
the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
35
36. Do we hunger for it?
Do we prepare ourselves to receive it?
Do we reverence it?
Do we seek to understand it?
Are we willing to obey it?

37. Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV)
28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are
heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take
My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I
am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will
find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is
easy and My burden is light."
