Recruiting with Social Media and Digital Marketing

  1. Recruiting and HR for 10 years. Started in Social Media before I knew it had a name. Used social media for recruiting since around 2005 Used HTML for monster.com ads before I knew what it was called. Now I do IT Recruiting and Social Media/Digital Marketing What do recruiting and marketing have in common? Both are looking for the customers. In recruiting, that could be a client or a candidate.
  2. First rule of finding candidates – figure out where your candidates “hang out”.
  3. When I graduated from college, this is what the job seeking landscape looked like. For many jobs, you got a newspaper and you either mailed or faxed your resume. For the “high tech” companies, you might see a job advertised online with an email address listed. Make note of “Employee Referrals” at 19.7%
  4. Again look at Referrals. Still going strong. Social Media – NEW in 2011. By end of 2013, realized the social media was so intertwined with other resources, they stopped tracking. Referrals could be from your employee that mentioned your company is hiring to a friend on facebook, LinkedIn is a great place for referrals. Maybe you have a co-worker from a previous company that you’ve lost contact with… They are probably on LinkedIn. Data - Relying on candidates memory – Candidates might not recall the first place they saw the ad. Where was the first place you saw an ad for Ford, Apple, McDonalds?
  5. Look at “Employee Referral”, “Career Site” and “Other”. Other – I forgot, social media, smaller niche sites,
  6. Can’t I just post on Monster or CareerBuilder and let them do the work?
  7. ATS and HRIS applications that take hours to complete… Easy to get lost in the cobwebs of the internet… ENTER: Social Media.
  8. 70+ % of men & women who use the internet, use some form of social media.
  9. Think about how much time you spend on social networking sites.
  10. There is a different feel to using social media for business vs for personal use. The fear keeps some people away.
  11. No one will do this for you (Well, maybe if you pay well). Either way, you’ll have to determine, what platforms you want to use and what message you want to convey. Not having a presence makes a statement.
  12. Use these if you need to post outside of your website. Even if you do have a website, it can be helpful. Bullhorn – 2 free job posts. Can schedule with Twitter, LinkedIn, facebook PostJobFree – Up to 10 jobs posted free. Upgrade to push out to other job sites. Jobvertise – free to post. Sponsor jobs on the website.

  14. So many social networking sites. It’s easy to get lost in overthinking. Be strategic. If you over post, it just means you have more sites to manage and more information to track.
  15. The big three. Google+, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapfish
  16. Direct Messages- asking them if they know anyone. Don’t spam blast. Keep it short and sweet. Remember, you are asking a favor. You are asking for time. Groups - Posting is free. Use with caution. Post in local or large groups. Join relevant groups. If it’s not relevant, keep moving. Used to be “the” place. Now more spam filled. Find active groups with “real” posts. Job Post on LinkedIn Jobs is $195 per month. Meh. Ok. Depends on industry. Create a company page. Post on your company profile. Sponsored Ads (PPC)

  19. Pros: Pay only per clicks Targeted demographics Cons: May need a designer Facebook changing algorithims
  20. Use Hootsuite to schedule for twitter, linkedin, or facebook. Somwhat familiar with twitter – use this.
  21. Use Buffer to schedule for twitter, linkedin, or facebook. Not famliar with twitter – use this.
  22. Create Adwords campaigns for ongoing searches. In each search, there are sponsored ads. They work by bidding for keywords and key word phrases. “Sales jobs in Tampa” “Tampa sales jobs” Bring traffic to your website.
  23. Faebook ads – PC and mobile. Constantly changing.
