My name is Hope Cain and I am the Director of Sulphur Springs Public Library with the City of
Sulphur Springs, Texas. Omar Sanchez began in 2007 as Library Clerk. Omar started at the public library
as a part-time employee, answering the telephone, helping the public at the front desk and reshelving
books. He learned quickly and is one of the few employees I trust with reshelving the nonfiction using
the Dewey Decimal System. He left for a short time for college, but returned to finish his degree and
convert to full time employment. Omar is a valuable employee that I trust and admire.
Omar’s many skills include being comfortably bilingual. He has no hesitation switching from
Spanish to English and is very well spoken. Omar is not only bilingual; he is conscientious, courteous,
honest and trustworthy. He is responsible for handling money, locking the cash register and often works
on Saturdays in a supervisor position. He has very proper, quiet speech and can stay calm in the face of
adversity, looks for ways to please the client, and never gets flustered. Omar is very meticulous about
his work, detail oriented, dependable, helpful, and a team player.
Our library has two special collections (St. Clair Music Box Collection and the Sinclair Collection
of World War II memorabilia) that were recently digitized through Texas A&M University – Commerce
Libraries, Northeast Texas Digital Collections. The goal being preservation and providing sustained
online access to materials that were previously inaccessible due to the fragility of the items. Omar was
instrumental in helping coordinate this effort, assisting with preparation of the artifacts and setup of the
items in anticipation of the digitizing process. Omar has also led tours through the collections with
student groups, interested adult visitors and assisting ESL students in their native Spanish language.
Omar recently wanted to take on more responsibility by heading up the library’s public
relations. He went to the Boys and Girls Club and CanHelp to speak about what the library can do for
their students and how to get involved. He also took over recording radio spots for the library and I was
very pleased at the results. Omar is the kind of employee an employer would want representing the
face of their business.
I am quite impressed with Omar Sanchez and propose my strongest recommendation for roles
which require intelligence, organization, communication skills, service and a positive attitude. Please
