The use of information and communication technologies pervades our lives. A specific type of social media that is playing a crucial role in this upsurge of participation in cyber-collective social movements (CSMs) is the social networking sites (SNS). We employ an extended model from the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) as our theoretical framework to understand student perceptions of SNS use expectations (performance expectancy and effort expectancy), social acceptance (social influence), and their perceptions about resource availability (facilitating conditions) for expressive social participation. This extended model introduces social variables (SNS mobilization effort and offline civic participation) that researchers have identified as important in explaining behaviors. In doing so, it advances a model of how activities in the online domain can ‘spill’ over to the offline domain. We have provided empirical support for the applicability of UTAUT to the expressive participation in CSMs via a survey of 214 SNS users. Our results confirm that expectancy and social influence significantly affect student intentions to use SNS for expressive participation in CSMs. Likewise, SNS mobilization effort emerged as a strong significant predictor of both intention and the use of SNS for expressive participation, but not for offline civic participation. Last, the use of SNS for expressive participation was a significant predictor for offline civic participation, which suggests that users who publicly express their socio-political opinions in SNS are more likely than others to participate in demonstrations.

ON THE USAGE OF DATABASES OF EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS IN MACEDONIAN EDUCATIONIJITE
Technologies have become important part of our lives. The steps for introducing ICTs in education vary from country to country. The Republic of Macedonia has invested with a lot in installment of hardware and software in education and in teacher training. This research was aiming to determine the situation of usage of databases of digital educational materials and to define recommendation for future improvements. Teachers from urban schools were interviewed with a questionnaire. The findings are several: only part of the interviewed teachers had experience with databases of educational materials; all teachers still need capacity building activities focusing exactly on the use and benefits from databases of educational materials; preferably capacity building materials to be in Macedonian language; technical support and upgrading of software and materials should be performed on a regular basis. Most of the findings can be applied at both national and international level – with all this implemented, application of ICT in education will have much

The Adoption of Social Network Sites for Expressive Participation in Internet...BO TRUE ACTIVITIES SL
The present study is an initial effort to develop a model that explores how uses of ICTs, particularly SNSs, foster expressive forms of participation that result in civic participation. In doing so, we attempt to investigate the acceptance and use of SNSs by members’ e-movements and SMOs and whether these uses turn results in a host of traditional or offline civic participatory behaviours. A theoretical model is proposed and justified, albeit not empirically validated. Thus, representing an opportunity for future research. The ideas extracted from the discussion should be a help for citizens to create social movements on the Internet. In this regard, numerous practical reflections and suggestions are presented.

Identifying the Factors Affecting Users’ Adoption of Social NetworkingWaqas Tariq
Through the rapid expansion of information and communication technologies, social networking sites have received much more attention in the scope of internet communication. Success of a social web primarily depends on users’ satisfaction. In this context, this study aims to identify the influencing factors that affect users’ satisfaction towards social networking site use. A multidimensional model has been proposed based on the Information Quality, System Quality, Environmental and Affective dimensions to assess the effects of key variables – Semantic Intention, Usability, Web-Page Aesthetics, Subjective Norm and Trust- on users’ satisfaction. Facebook was chosen as a focused social networking site, because of its popularity. A comprehensive survey instrument was applied to 203 Facebook users. Also, Structural Equation Modeling, particularly Partial Least Square, was conducted to analyze the proposed research model. As a result, proposed multidimensional research model predicts the factors influencing users’ satisfaction towards social networking site use and relationships among these factors. The findings of this research will be valuable for literature by analyzing the influencing factors that have not been previously researched in the context of social networking satisfaction area.

ICT are transforming Cuban higher education towards the adoption of blended-learning and distance learning. This dissertation focuses on investigating the effectiveness of using social software to support collaborative learning in a Cuban university. Five studies were conducted within three phases that included diagnostic, integration and validation of the social software that was used to support collaborative learning. A didactic model was created to integrate social software within Cuban teaching and learning in higher education. Social Network Analysis and content analysis were used to evaluate the effectiveness of social software to support students' learning through their collaborative learning relationships and through their posts in wiki pages and online discussions. Statistical analysis was used to evaluate students' self-efficacy as a measure of their achievements in social software-supported collaborative learning. The findings confirmed social software’s suitability to support collaborative learning, as it increased collaborative learning's effectiveness, compared to face-to-face collaborative learning. Specific findings were revealed for the use of wikis and online discussions within teaching and learning, which are extendable to other social software tools. A didactic model to integrate social software in Cuban teaching and learning, as well as a framework to analyse students' interactions, were used for first time and validated to extend its use among Cuban university stakeholders.

Summary: Social media have evolved as a key territory for modern political campaigning. Political actors (candidates and parties) operating in this territory have to adjust their communication strategies to a new logic, allowing citizen to directly engage with and respond to political actors’ messages. Research in political campaigning has identified different context and content factors which drive or dampen user responses (likes, shares, comments). I will discuss key findings of these studies and present an example study conducted in Austria.

Improving Workplace Safety Performance in Malaysian SMEs: The Role of Safety ...AJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT: In the Malaysian context, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) experience a significant
burden of workplace accidents. A consensus among scholars attributes a substantial portion of these incidents to
human factors, particularly unsafe behaviors. This study, conducted in Malaysia's northern region, specifically
targeted Safety and Health/Human Resource professionals within the manufacturing sector of SMEs. We
gathered a robust dataset comprising 107 responses through a meticulously designed self-administered
questionnaire. Employing advanced partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) techniques
with SmartPLS 3.2.9, we rigorously analyzed the data to scrutinize the intricate relationship between safety
behavior and safety performance. The research findings unequivocally underscore the palpable and
consequential impact of safety behavior variables, namely safety compliance and safety participation, on
improving safety performance indicators such as accidents, injuries, and property damages. These results
strongly validate research hypotheses. Consequently, this study highlights the pivotal significance of cultivating
safety behavior among employees, particularly in resource-constrained SME settings, as an essential step toward
enhancing workplace safety performance.

• Adapted from UTAUT model (Venkatesh et al., 2003)
19
• Performance expectancy
• Effort expectancy
• Social influence
• Facilitation conditions
• Intention to use
• Use Behavior
• Degree of frequency of use (Rojas and Puig-i-Abril, 2009)
• Social variables adapted from Rojas and Puig-i-Abril
(2009)
• Facebook mobilization
• Degree of frequency that students mobilized their social network
contacts for social or political causes
• Offline political participation
• Individuals’ participatory behaviors in the offline realm
21. Results
Measurement Validation
• The model is assessed in terms of validity and reliability
• The measurement model is completely satisfactory for
21
our model
• Convergent validity
• Item reliability
• Construct reliability
• Discriminant validity

24. Discussion
Theoretical Implications
• This study replicates an extension of the UTAUT model
• We have provide empirical support for the applicability of
24
UTAUT to civic engagement
• Develops a understanding of the role of Facebook on
civic engagement
• We illustrate the need to start looking more deeply into SNS
usage to civic engagement
• The results from the direct model show
• Social Influence is the most important predictor of Intention
of Use
• Performance Expectancy is the second strongest
determinant of Intention of Use
• Facebook Mobilization Effort emerged as a strong significant
predictor of Use but not for offline political participation

Discussion
Limitations and future research
• We have not include the moderating variables
described in the UTAUT model.
• We propose future research considering the gender as
moderating variable and to do a multi-group analyses
• Our study is limited to a single point in time
• Longitudinal study
• Our study is limited to a specific SNS: Facebook
• Future research should consider others mediated
communication practices
• We can not generalize results to other groups
• psychograhic and demographic, and to
• other groups where incultural and lifestyle habits may
differ (cultures, counties and demographics)
