What is real time System
• A system is called as real time system when we
need quantitative expression of time to describe
the behavior of the system.

Model of Real time System

Characteristics of real time
systems
4
1. Time Constrains:
-Deadlines.
-Delays.
2. New Correctness Criteria:
-Logically Correct
-Accurate Result
5
3. Embedded:
-Sensors
-Actuators
4. Safety Criticality:
-Safe System.
-Reliable System.
6
5. Concurrency:
-Short and Strict Time Bounds
-Non-Deterministic
6. Distributed and Feedback System:
7
7. Task Criticality:
-Failure of Task
-Critical Result
8. Custom Hardware:
-Processors
-Embedded Hardware
8
9. Reactive:
10. Stability:
9
11. Exception Handling:
-The Failure should be detected and the system
should continue to operate.
10
1. Hard Real Time System
It is hardware or software that must operate
within the confines of a stringent deadline. The
application may be considered to have failed if it
does not complete its function within the
allotted time span.
11
2. Firm Real Time System
• Firm real-time systems treat information
delivered/computations made after a deadline
as invalid.
• They do not fail after a missed deadline.
12
3. Soft Real Time System
• A real-time task is said to be soft if generating
the output after its deadline has still some utility
for the system.
13
14
1. Industrial Applications:
-Chemical Plant Control
2. Medical:
-Robots Used in Recovery of displaced
Radioactive materials.
3. Automotive and Transportation:
-MPFI System
