For the thriller project, the group watched other thrillers for inspiration and came up with the idea of an "Apparition". They storyboarded scenes, conducted test shoots, experimented with sounds, and arranged official shooting over multiple days. Though they wished for more editing time, the completed opening sequence for the thriller was an improvement over the preliminary task due to its more complex storyline, varied camera angles, and better special effects.

7. Question: Looking back to your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
- 1. PRELIMINARY TASK TO THRILLER
- 2. PRELIMINARY TASK 12S125 In the preliminary task time was very limited, we had a time period of 45 minutes to construct a basic storyline, shoot it and then edit it, a lot like the preliminary task set in September 2011.
- 3. THE PROBLEMS WITH THE PRELIMINARY TASK • 1) Since the time period was so short the story was very basic • 2) we used the same camera angles. • 3) there was no non – diagetic sound • 4) since the aspect ratio was rushed the whole thing looks like it has been stretched
- 4. GENERATING IDEAS • To help generating ideas we watched a few Thrillers that were created last year and years before. We had gone through about three thrillers with no good ideas. Then we watched a fourth Thrillers. I remember it had almost the same soundtrack as the one that we used in our children's film. • We also tried watching blockbuster Thrillers to get an idea of what we had to try and produce.
- 5. THE IDEA OF APPARITION • The initial idea of Apparition came to me when we watched the fourth Thriller from the year before. It happened by me misreading the title. At the time I thought it was a bad idea and not worth using, but just in case it was worth getting the notes down.
- 6. ANALYSING APPARITION Once we had decided on the initial idea we decided to analyse it, remove any flawed or bad ideas from the script and storyboard. One way in which it was changed was that in the original write up the apparition was going to be that of an old woman aged 60+ however to save time and since we didn’t have anyone who fitted that description available we decided to use Addam instead
- 7. THE UNOFFICIAL TEST SHOT • After a lot of discussion between the group we decided that we had to do a test shot to see if the idea could work practically as well as on paper, but since the official test shot would be nearly a week away I decided to create an unofficial test shot.
- 8. STORYBOARDING • After seeing the unofficial test shot we decided to go ahead with the idea. We decided to use a storyboard so that the actor (to be played by Craig) knows where he needs to be, what he needs to do and once the scene is finished where to go next
- 9. THE OFFICIAL TEST SHOT • Since the house scene had already been taken care of in the Unofficial test shot, we turned out attention to the test shot of the graveyard scene (this would be my second and last acting role for Apparition)
- 10. SOUND EXPERIMENTS • As we needed a soundtrack for Apparition we had to spend some time testing various sounds and finding the right combination to create the right mood. Initially there was to be only one soundtrack throughout the film (now only used in house scene). This was done because my colleagues thought that the music made the graveyard scene feel too scary for a thriller, as this seemed to push it more towards a horror film.
- 11. ARRANGING THE SHOOT (HOUSE SCENE) • The Shooting for the house scene would take place before the graveyard shoot, we had to do this because Craig was away the next week so we shot it on Wednesday 22 nd February.
- 12. ARRANGING THE SHOOT (GRAVEYARD SCENE) • The graveyard scene would be shot on Wednesday 29 th February. This seemed appropriate as Craig was away for that week, but he was not required for the shooting of the Graveyard scene.
- 13. THE FINISHED PRODUCT • In just one months Apparition had gone from a scribble on a piece of A5 paper to a whole opening sequence. Overall I think that if we had more time to edit the film could have been a bit better, but it’s still a good opening sequence.

HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO THE PRELIMINARY TASK • 1) The Thriller has a larger variety of camera angles compared to the preliminary task. • 2) The thriller storyline is more complex than that of the preliminary task. • 3) The special effects used in the Thriller are better that of the preliminary task e.g. the glowing effect of the apparition.
