The Rotaract Mississauga General Meeting agenda included member and committee updates, upcoming social events like a Niagara trip and year-end gala, and executive elections. Key initiatives discussed were the Festival of Lights fundraiser taking on lighting trees around Mississauga from November to January, the Relay for Life overnight walk in June, and the Singfest audition deadline in May. The next meeting was scheduled for May 15th.

The tradition has long been celebrated in Thailand; the celebrations providing families with an opportunity to get together, allowing youngsters the chance to pay respect to their elders and for the elders to bless the younger members of the family.

9. Festival of Lights
For 9 years, Rotary has lit up downtown Mississauga during the
holidays
Companies sponsor a tree and Rotary lights it up and hangs a
plaque for approx. 8 weeks
There are 13 indoor trees and a handful of outdoor trees to be
placed around the Living Arts Centre
They have raised up to $10,000 for their club!
10. Festival of Lights
This year… Rotary has given us the opportunity to take on the
project as our main fundraiser for the year
This is a BIG opportunity!
The commitment?
Sponsorship: get corporate sponsors, many that will come on
again from previous years
Set up: light all the trees in late November – need a team of 20-30
Reception: for the sponsors around the holidays (TBD)
Take down: in mid-January
11. Festival of Lights - Costs
We already have all of the lights and indoor trees (and of
course, the outdoor trees)
Printing costs (nominal)
Transportation costs (approx. $160 there and back)
We have an opportunity to get creative and sell other items
(i.e. stars, wreaths…)
