This document describes several ophthalmic instruments used in eye surgery: 1. A chalazion scoop is used to scoop out the contents of a chalazion. It has a small cup with sharp margins attached to a narrow handle. 2. A chalazion clamp consists of two limbs that can be clamped together with a screw. It is used to fix a chalazion and achieve hemostasis during surgery. 3. Instruments such as lid clamps, muscle hooks, ptotic clamps, and Desmarre's retractors are used for lid surgery, engaging extraocular muscles, holding the levator palpebrae superioris muscle, and

1. CHALAZION
SCOOP

ENTROPION CLAMP
Consists of a D shaped plate
opposed by U shaped rim
which can be tightened by
screw.

For lid surgery

4. MUSCLE /
STRABISMUS HOOK
Consists of a flat metal
handle with a blunt
gaurding knob at one end
,plane of handle is the
same as that of hook.
USES-
To engage the extaocular
muscle
As a lens expressor

5. PTOSIS CLAMP
Like a forcep with J shaped
ends having internal
serrations with or without
locking mechanism.
USES-
To hold levator palpabrae
superioris

6. DESMARRE’S
RETRACTOR
Saddle shaped instrument
folded on itself at one end,
available in two sizes.
USES-
To retract the lids
blepharospasm
ecchymosis of lid
suture removal
foreign body removal
