One day they had to stay home
because it was rainy and windy,
so they did drawing and painting
Elisha and David were
amazed to see Kate’s
paintings
They had lots and lots of questions for aunt Kate; they
would have hours and hours of discussions
How long did
it take
Leonardo da
Vinci to paint
the Mona
Lisa?
What to
look for
in a
painting?
What is so
great
about the
Mona Lisa
Painting?
I mean it’s
great but why
is it so great
to become
world
famous?
Ok, I have a
plan to
surprise both
of you !!
Surprise !!
Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vince
In the present era, this is
arguably the most famous
painting in the world. Its fame
rests, in particular, on the elusive
smile on the woman's face which
many people think to be very
pleasing and divine
No doubt this is a beautiful
painting but why has this
become the most iconic image
in the world?
Yes, it is not obvious. By first impression she is
very small, dark and very yellow. Watch closely
, she is trying to communicate with us with her
delicate smile. There is really an intimate
connection between the spectator and the
painting. She has become important part of
history. Other characteristics found in this work
are the unadorned dress, in which the eyes and
hands have no competition from other details
Wow she seems to be not just a
painting but living and breathing
Did you observe her hands? You
can have the feel of bones and
the joints in the back of her
palms. The artist has painted the
model in its most natural way..
How did Leonardo managed to
paint this mysterious and
captivating woman
Leonardo da Vinci was Italian
painter who was clever at many
different things. Look how he
makes subtle use of colour . He
doesn’t rely on lines and applies
indistinguishable brush strokes. He
makes use of the light reflected
from the image. See how the nose
line is illuminated and so the other
parts of her face. Did you notice
that the background is rather dull?
And that catches our eyes more
towards the face.
The painting, thought to be a portrait of Lisa Gherardini,
the wife of Francesco del Giocondo, and is believed to
have been painted between 1503 and 1506. It was
acquired by King Francis 1 of France and is now on
permanent display in a museum in Paris
This is a simple portrait of Wing
Commander Paul Richey in his royal air-
force uniform. He was one of the
famous pilot to serve in the RAF. David
what do you think about this portrait?
Wing Commander Paul Richey
By Olive Snell
Date painted: 1942
Oh WOW ! He is giving a very
sharp look straight into my eyes.
He looks brave and strong built.
He is quite handsome too !
Painter Olive Snell has depicted his sharp
features very well. Also he looks strong
but he doesn’t look fat. Very elegant
painting !
See how the painter has
depicted his relaxed
posture and alertness at
the same time. He looks
so vigilant. The shade of
colour used for the
uniform and
background doesn’t
compete with his face
Charwomen Use Shell By: Edward Ardizzone
Date painted: 1938
This picture is of two
woman who work together.
They have stopped as they
pass each other at the
corridor and they are
having a moment together.
Can you imagine what they
could be talking?
They could be
having a good
gossip.
Might be about the
third lady who is
just leaving out of
the door !How is your eye drawn towards the
picture? Would you like to comment
upon the first lady at the left and her
white apron?
The eye is drawn from the first lady , then
the second , then the bucket and then the
lady leaving the Shell (corridor).
Come on
every
body,
dinner is
ready!
